Chapter 105: 087 With the nourishment of love, illness also heals a bit faster (1 update)_1
When Tang Su came to, she still felt dizzy as she lay there looking at the ceiling. Nevertheless, she turned her neck to check what she was wearing.
She forgot to dry her hair last night after washing it. This had happened once before while she was in college, which resulted in a high fever due to going to bed with wet hair.
Since then, she’d always made sure to dry her hair after washing it unless it was in the midday heat.
She hadn’t dried her hair yesterday because...
...thinking of Lu Han, Tang Su unavoidably felt her spirits sink once more.
Combined with her post-fever weakness, her brain was spinning so badly that Tang Su found it even more difficult to view the situation positively.
She had thought that being together would mean her days would be exhilarating, almost as if she were on a high. She never expected that Lu Han’s question before sleep could mean their tide, barely having risen, was already falling?
Knock, knock, knock—
There was a knock on the door, and Tang Su called out hoarsely, "Come in."
Then she saw Wu Jie come in carrying a bowl of plain porridge sweetened with sugar.
When sick and feverish with no appetite, Tang Su liked drinking white porridge with added sugar, possibly accompanied by a packet of pickled vegetables at most; she truly couldn’t stomach anything else.
"Wu Jie, why are you here?" Tang Su asked weakly, her pale face evident.
Her voice was extremely soft, but fortunately, the hospital room was quiet and Wu Jie’s hearing was very good.
"Called you, but Doctor Lu answered, said you were feverish and at their hospital. Just my luck, the old man called to bother me, so I came to check on you. Do you want some sugar porridge?"
"Mm."
Tang Su nodded. Propping herself up, she tried to sit up, but Wu Jie quickly crossed the room to prop the pillow behind her so she could lean back comfortably.
Tang Su had an IV in one arm and could only hold a spoon in the other, so Wu Jie acted as an impromptu table, holding the bowl of sugar porridge for her.
"There’s a table over there," Tang Su said, embarrassed to continuously trouble Wu Jie.
"No problem. I don’t think you’ll be able to eat much anyway. I’m too lazy to set it up," Wu Jie said with a lazy tone, taking the responsibility upon himself.
In truth, it was because he wanted to take care of Tang Su.
"..."
Seeing Wu Jie’s insistence, Tang Su didn’t push further. She scooped several spoons, and noticing her good appetite, Wu Jie magically produced a pack of pickled vegetables from his coat pocket.
"Want to add some of this?" Wu Jie asked with a smile.
"Yes, please. Thank you." Tang Su’s eyes lit up. She’d just been wishing for a pack of pickled vegetables.
Seeing her childlike excitement, Wu Jie opened the packet and sprinkled some into the sugar porridge.
Her appetite opening up, Tang Su began to eat as if she intended to finish the entire bowl of sugar porridge.
Director Ke, feeling concerned, took a break to visit Tang Su, and coming along was the same nurse who had just replaced Tang Su’s IV bag.
A bit noisy but somewhat cute.
"Oh, a family member has come," remarked Director Ke, seeing Wu Jie and assuming he was Tang Su’s relative due to his attentive care.
"No, he’s a friend," Tang Su explained, her face flushing.
"Ah, I get it, boyfriend. Alright, he seems to be taking good care of you. Being able to eat so much porridge shows your appetite isn’t too bad." Director Ke went over, touched Tang Su’s forehead, and commented, "Hmm, the fever has gone down."
Turning to the nurse, she instructed, "Keep an eye on her to see if the fever recurs. If it doesn’t, go ahead and remove the IV. If it comes back, inform the on-call doctor and see if she needs to continue with the IV fluids."
"Yes, Director Ke," the nurse responded.
"Well, I just got called into a meeting at the bureau. Your illness isn’t serious, but since Doctor Lu and Doctor Bai entrusted me with your care, I want to make sure you’re settled in here. Don’t worry, the medical staff here will take good care of you. Now, with your boyfriend here to bathe you in the glow of love, your recovery should be even faster. So, rest up, eat if you can; it’ll help you get better faster."
Director Ke rattled this off so rapidly that Tang Su and Wu Jie, across from her, found no opportunity to interject a correction to inform Director Ke that they were not boyfriend and girlfriend.
And moreover, Tang Su’s actual boyfriend was none other than Doctor Lu.
Wu Jie did not deny the misunderstanding, partly because he selfishly desired the assumption to persist a bit longer. Even if Tang Su wasn’t his girlfriend, pretending to play the role made him quite happy.
Tang Su didn’t deny it either, not because she didn’t want to but because she had no chance to do so. Director Ke had already finished speaking and turned to leave. Running late for the meeting at the bureau, she couldn’t afford to waste her colleagues’ time, as the hospital car was waiting for her.
