Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Torturing Zhao Lingling (1)
Xuandu City Police Substation morgue.Due to Xiong Tian’s special identity and his suspicious death, after obtaining permission from the Canglang Sect’s higher-ups, the police brought Xiong Tian’s body back to the station for an autopsy by the forensic pathologist.
At this moment, the body An Yiqing saw had already been examined by the forensic pathologist.
"Xiao Qing, this is Xiong Tian’s body," Tang Zhishan said, dismissing the subordinate who had shown him the way before turning to An Yiqing. "In Xuandu City, Xiong Tian was quite an influential figure. Though he had a volatile temper and was fond of women, he had developed Canglang Sect to its current status, not just any average person. I didn’t expect he would die so inexplicably." With a sigh reflecting his emotion, Tang Zhishan couldn’t help feeling a bit sentimental over Xiong Tian’s death.
As An Yiqing looked at Xiong Tian’s lifeless face under the white cloth, she couldn’t help but agree with Tang Zhishan’s words. No matter how powerful or influential a person was, what did it amount to after death but a handful of yellow soil?
"Tutu," Gu Yelin approached from behind and gently took hold of the girl’s hand. He didn’t like the way An Yiqing seemed to see through the superficialities of life; it made him feel uneasy.
An Yiqing turned her head, revealing a bright smile, and said sweetly, "Ah Lin, I’m just reflecting a bit. I can’t bear to leave you, to leave everyone."
Having calmed this possessive man, An Yiqing stepped forward and began to examine Xiong Tian’s body.
Since the forensic pathologist had already performed an autopsy, she had a basic understanding of the situation. Xiong Tian, male, 41 years old, died at his home around one in the morning. The cause of death was suffocation. It was conjectured that there was no second person present at the time of Xiong Tian’s death; the doors and windows were all locked from the inside, which meant Xiong Tian had died alone in a locked room.
Having reached this point in her deductions, the case began to reveal its numerous flaws.
Firstly, a person who dies of suffocation would put up a violent struggle before succumbing, but the photos taken by the Forensic Department showed that the "an" character written at the crime scene where Xiong Tian’s body was found had forceful strokes and smooth handwriting. It certainly wasn’t something a person in the throes of dying from suffocation would have written hastily.
Secondly, if the "an" character wasn’t written by Xiong Tian, then how did the murderer enter and exit the securely locked space? Moreover, who was trying to pin this crime on her?
As An Yiqing examined the body, her mind was racing, trying to sort out and organize her thoughts methodically.
"Xiao Qing, have you found anything?" Tang Zhishan, looking on as An Yiqing examined the body without fear, asked quietly.
"There’s a bit of a lead," the girl said, lifting her head to address Tang Zhishan. "Uncle Tang, may I go check out Xiong Tian’s house?"
"Of course, you can! Let’s go, I’ll take you there!" Tang Zhishan nodded eagerly, agreeing without hesitation.
"Uncle Tang, please don’t trouble yourself," An Yiqing stopped Tang Zhishan as he was about to leave, smiling as she spoke. "You’ve already had a lot of trouble because of today’s events, and with your busy schedule, I really can’t bear to impose on you any further. How about this? Just give me a pass, and any officer can take me there."
"Well then, alright!" Tang Zhishan thought for a moment and then nodded in agreement. "I indeed have many matters to attend to, and if Xiao Qing you say so, your uncle won’t impose. I’ll arrange for a reliable person to take you there."
"Thank you, Uncle Tang!"
...
Tang Zhishan personally issued a pass for An Yiqing. Then he dispatched the same elderly policeman who had taken An Yiqing from Xuan University to accompany her.
This elderly policeman, surnamed Wang and named Wang Sheng, had been working at this particular police substation for nearly sixteen years. With no particular connections, he had painstakingly climbed from a lowly clerk to the position of a team leader, proving his keen insight.
