Chapter 816: Chapter 816: Why Did You Bump Into Me?
The Emperor’s face grew even more displeased, "Why can’t these women mind their own affairs? They only bring disgrace upon themselves. Had I known, I wouldn’t have brought a single one out."
Except Nan Feng.
The procession resumed its march, and Nan Feng glanced back at Jiang Gui Fei with a triumphant smile, while Jiang Gui Fei shot Nan Feng a glare.
But Jiang Gui Fei believed it was sheer luck that saved Nan Feng this time. She eluded the first throw, but could she possibly avoid a second? Picking up another pebble, she waited until no one was paying attention before flinging it at Nan Feng’s back.
Again, Nan Feng dodged at the last second, and the stone struck Zhang Liangdi on the head. She too cried out in pain, "Ouch!" and turned back angrily to look at Jiang Gui Fei.
This time, Jiang Gui Fei was too late to retract her hand.
By the time the Emperor reached Zhang Liangdi’s side, and she saw his furious gaze, she no longer shielded Jiang Gui Fei, "Your Majesty, it was Gui Fei sister who threw the stone at me. Please feel the lump on my head; no matter what, I would not hit myself with a stone."
As Zhang Liangdi’s tears flowed, the trailing Jiang Gui Fei countered, "But I was standing behind one other person from Liangdi; if I were aiming, it would have been at Lady Nan Feng in front. How could it possibly have hit sister Liangdi?"
Nan Feng could only chime in appropriately, "Because I managed to dodge just in time, or else it would have hit me."
"..." The Emperor, looking at Nan Feng’s innocent face, knew that she would never engage in such indecent acts, so he issued a stern warning to Jiang Gui Fei, "If this happens again, I will have you sent back to the Palace immediately."
"..." Jiang Gui Fei replied in a wronged tone, "Yes, Your Majesty."
Jiang Gui Fei couldn’t understand, could it be that Nan Feng had eyes on the back of her head?
...
After visiting the riverbank, the governor led the group up the dike.
With no handrails around the dike and the river below, those at the front constantly reminded those behind to be careful not to fall into the river.
Nan Feng felt it was fine; after all, they were all adults aware of the dangers, and the dike was not so narrow. Three people could walk abreast; unless one jumped down, no one would fall.
But as fate would have it, the more you fear something, the more likely it is to happen.
Halfway across, Nan Feng noticed mud on the hem of her gown and bent over to pat it off. But just as she squatted down, someone from behind bumped forcefully against her left side. She lost her balance and tumbled toward the left.
Instinctively reaching out for something to grasp, there was only water to her left. Her hands clutched at the air, and she fell.
Thankfully, the dike had a slope and, sliding down, Nan Feng was able to grab a stone on the edge, preventing herself from rolling into the river, which would have drowned her.
"Help!"
In desperation, Nan Feng shouted for help, holding tightly onto the rock.
Upon hearing cries for aid, everyone turned around, including the Emperor, who saw the familiar figure of Nan Feng and immediately paled. He ran over without hesitation, "Hurry, save her, quick!"
Above, a Guard threw down a rope, and Nan Feng, gripping the rope, was quickly pulled up but found her legs weak, so she clung tightly to Xiaoqing.
"How could you be so careless?" The Emperor approached Nan Feng, intending to check her wounds. Nan Feng shook her head, "I am not seriously hurt."
After speaking, Nan Feng suddenly turned her gaze to Jiang Gui Fei and asked icily, "Why did you push me?"
