Chapter 741: Chapter 741: I Have a Question to Ask_1

The Emperor looked at Nan Feng’s obstinate appearance, and without saying much, he turned to her and said, "I have sought you out today to seek your advice on a matter."

"I dare not, Your Majesty. You are the Emperor with countless ministers at your disposal. I’m afraid I can’t offer much help," Nan Feng said without directly looking at the Emperor. It was considered disrespectful to stare at the Emperor.

The Emperor smiled, "You really hold a grudge against me. However, I believe you can help with this. I heard that you once solved a water usage issue for your village in Da Ping, and you are from the South. So, I want to ask you, do you have any experience in water management?"

It was clear that the Emperor had thoroughly investigated Nan Feng.

"No research, I didn’t participate in water management. The reservoir is just a facade, it was solved only with the help of the county Yamen. I merely assisted," Nan Feng spoke truthfully.

The Emperor then laughed and said, "That requires cunning to come up with such a strategy. Here, I have a map concerning water management. Areas frequently hit by floods are concentrated where Quan and Fu counties meet. Please take a look, can you offer me any advice? Or perhaps share your thoughts. The floods, every year they occur and every year countless people perish because of them."

Perhaps it was the last sentence that resonated with Nan Feng and thus she accepted the map.

The Emperor smirked inwardly.

This lady is truly kind-hearted.

After scrutinizing the map for a while, Nan Feng finally put it down and explained, "Your Majesty, my suggestion is this. Every year, we continuously build dams and embankments in an attempt to prevent the upstream flood from reaching downstream. This method is truly risky, and the casualties incurred every year are due to the instability of the dams. My advice is to demolish all the dams and excavate more river channels downstream, allowing the water to flow naturally downstream."

After mulling over her words for a while, the Emperor then revealed a hint of a smile, "Nan Feng, it seems we’re on the same page. However, you must know - there aren’t many in the court who support me."

"Great minds think alike," responded Nan Feng, nonchalantly.

However, seeing the Emperor look at her somewhat unusually, she quickly lowered her head, "The credit goes to Your Majesty’s wisdom, I dare not compare myself to you."

"Do not worry, Nan Feng. I have no intention of reproaching you. You mentioned breaching the embankments to drain water; do you have a concrete implementation plan in mind?"

Nan Feng shook her head, "In response to Your Majesty, I do not."

The Emperor looked at Nan Feng, "I do have a few schemes. How about you give me some advice on which ones are good?"

Nan Feng only said, "I wouldn’t dare."

Yet, the Emperor had already pushed a scroll toward Nan Feng, "Speak freely, there’s no need to hide anything. I promise I won’t blame you no matter what you say."

Nan Feng then unfolded the scroll to peruse it.

The Emperor’s scroll was very detailed, and it was clear that each scheme had been carefully planned by him. Nan Feng found herself absorbed in studying them before she knew it.

It was, after all, a matter of national importance. She had to be cautious.

After about an hour, Nan Feng had thoroughly understood all the schemes. After careful thought, she selected one of them and said to the Emperor, "Your Majesty, I think this third scheme is more feasible."
