Chapter 688: Chapter 688: Xue Ling, Can You Lie to Me for a Lifetime?_1

Xue Ling was currently experiencing a mix of feelings - sour, sweet, bitter, and spicy - all at once, resulting in a discomfort that made her feet refuse to move.

"Xue Ling!" Yu Peng called out to her again.

Nan Feng too gave her a little push from the side, but Xue Ling instead stepped back.

What would change if she went back?

Looking at Yu Peng’s face that had lost much weight in a short span of time, Xue Ling was afraid that she might hurt him again, that she might flee again without uttering a single word.

At that moment, Long, Yan, as well as the butler were all looking at Yu Peng intently.

Since Xue Ling didn’t approach him, Yu Peng moved towards her and stopped only when he was right in front of her. His gaze was now fixed on her and didn’t move an inch.

"What are you doing here?" Xue Ling asked.

Her tone was no longer the casual one of the past, instead, it had softened to a degree that surprised even herself.

It was then that she realized that she too was afraid to lose.

"Looking for you," responded Yu Peng.

"I treated you so badly, why are you still looking for me?" Xue Ling retorted, a trace of stubbornness in her voice.

Yet, Yu Peng asked, "How did you treat me?"

"..." Xue Ling didn’t know till when this man intended to remain naive, and she felt a surge of indignation.

"I’ve been lying to you from the start. I don’t actually like you, being with you, and agreeing to marry you, none of these were my real intentions," Xue Ling shouted out, her tears falling immediately after.

Seeing Xue Ling in tears, Yu Peng reached out to wipe them away, then gently held her in his arms. His tone was as gentle as ever: "Xue Ling, if you have been lying to me from the start, can you continue to lie, lie to me for the rest of your life?"

Upon saying that, Yu Peng held Xue Ling even tighter: "Because, I truly can’t live without you!"

"..." Xue Ling’s heart felt as if it had been struck hard by his words, and she burst into tears.

She beat her fists against his shoulder as she sobbed, "How could there be such a foolish man in this world!"

"..."

The sight deeply moved Nan Feng, and she couldn’t help but lean into Yan’s arms. Long too was watching intently.

This was exactly what he had hoped to see.

That night, Xue Ling did not ask Yu Peng to stay at the inn again; instead, she brought him back to Spikenard Square. As for what they did that night, Nan Feng was unaware. In any case, they returned to the county two days later.

As they bid farewell that night, Nan Feng joked with Long, "Now it’s just you, the lone man left. Better find a lady and get married soon."

"Thank you for your concern, Lady Nan. I’ll give it serious thought," Long responded.

...

Nan Feng had been in an exceptionally good mood lately.

With no official duties to deal with, Yan was like a clingy child, accompanying her wherever she went. He even started learning how to do business and make facial masks.

Yan was a quick learner and would sometimes even voice his own opinions.

The earlier business rivals would often come to Nan Feng for explanations, but Yan would always handle it.

Another factor boosting Nan Feng’s mood was Yan’s company.

During the day in the shop, they would work together seamlessly, though they were not overtly affectionate. Come nightfall, however, Yan turned into a different person, acting more voracious than a tiger.
