Chapter 541: Chapter 543: What Do You Want?_1

The face of Old Lady Zhi, creased with age, did not reveal too much distress; she was a woman who remained gracefully elegant even in her old age.

"Give me some time to consider this matter, and I will inform you once I’ve made a decision," she said.

"Understood," the house servant quietly exited the room.

No sooner had the servant left than the granddaughter-in-law of the Chen Family entered.

"Grandmother, have you heard..., about my sister-in-law...she’s been imprisoned," asked Mrs. Chen, her gaze fixated on the beads in Old Lady Zhi’s hand for she dared not meet the old lady’s eyes.

"Someone has already reported it to me," replied Old Lady Zhi, who had always found Mrs. Chen distasteful, feeling that her indirect speech took too many words to convey a simple point.

"Grandmother, over the years, I’ve been diligently working at Zhi’s Beauty Pavilion," Mrs. Chen said.

"And so?"

"Grandmother, I am very familiar with the workings of Zhi’s Beauty Pavilion. I can manage all sorts of situations," Mrs. Chen hinted subtly.

To this, Old Lady Zhi merely responded with a nonchalant, "Hmm."

"Grandmother, I was thinking..." Mrs. Chen stuttered.

"What is it that you are thinking?" asked Old Lady Zhi.

"I...I.." Mrs. Chen’s words trailed off as she hesitated to speak out.

"You want to take over Zhi’s Beauty Pavilion, don’t you?" Old Lady Zhi guessed, giving out a resigned sigh, "Honestly, you’re a good person, kind enough, but you lack a certain assertiveness. I was undecided between you and the other person, but in the end, I did not choose you. I did not choose you in the past, and it’s unlikely that I will do so in the future. Now call Xiaolun for me."

"Xiaolun? But..."

"Just go," Old Lady Zhi’s tone remained untroubled, not severely so, yet her simple words dismissed Mrs. Chen, who then had no choice but to summon Xiaolun.

Xiaolun is Mrs. Chen’s daughter, still only ten years old, but remarkably spirited, and greatly favored by Old Lady Zhi, who took it upon herself to educate the girl.

"Great-grandmother, you wanted to see me?" Xiaolun hopped and skipped her way into the room before settling down quietly in front of Old Lady Zhi.

Old Lady Zhi stroked Xiaolun’s head, taking a good look at her, "Who fixed your hair today?" she asked.

"I did it myself," Xiaolun replied, "Does it look good?"

"It looks beautiful, but how did you think of styling your hair into a cloud bun paired with a flower bun?" Old Lady Zhi asked.

"I tried different styles a few times and found this one," seeing that Old Lady Zhi liked it, Xiaolun asked, "Great-grandmother, would you like me to style your hair this way?"

"Oh, no need for that," laughed Old Lady Zhi.

"But didn’t you say, as a woman, we should strive to remain beautiful as we age?"

"Yes, but beauty is different at different ages. The hairstyle I have now suits my age well," as she spoke, Old Lady Zhi gently stroked Xiaolun’s head, then directed her attention to the girl’s outfit, "This dress, did you make it yourself?"

"Not exactly, I drew the design and then had a tailor make it," Xiaolun stood up and twirled before Old Lady Zhi. The colors of her clothes were well-coordinated and they gave off an exquisite yet playful appearance.

"Great-grandmother, does it look good?" Xiaolun asked.

Old Lady Zhi praised, "It looks beautiful, indeed. As women, we should strive to be as beautiful as possible. By the way, Xiaolun, would you be willing to go study for a while if I arranged it?"

"Study?"

...

A six-person sedan slowly descended to the entrance of Spikenard Square. A sedan carrier assisted a little girl, exquisitely dressed, to alight from the sedan.
