Chapter 366: Chapter 367 has arrived!_1

Yege didn’t nod, so Nan Feng continued to persuade him: "If you’re worried about the bad guys using sleep-inducing drugs on me, I can take an antidote in advance, or put cotton in my nose. That way I won’t immediately pass out, and will still have a chance to fight back."

After Nan Feng said all this, Yege stood stiffly without giving a response.

If reasoning wasn’t effective, she had to resort to her softer side. She leaned against Yege, "Yege, please, let me have a taste of being a heroine. You’re the best. If you weren’t in charge of this case, I wouldn’t bother poking my nose in it. I trust you to protect me, hence I am willing to risk this little danger. If you allow me to go, I’ll agree to any conditions you want to impose on me, okay...?"

After what seemed like persistent nagging, Yege finally spoke: "Tonight at midnight, you roam around the west side of the city. I have men lying in ambush there. But there’s no need for any special code. Just run if you spot any suspicious individuals. I forbid you to enter the Evil Cult’s hideout."

...

Night time.

A girl in plain clothing was running outside, crying as she ran, with strains of sobbing echoing around.

The girl was wearing a short coat, her hair tied into two little braids which made her look younger than she was. Her sobbing was particularly pathetic, clearly a runaway girl that anyone could identify.

As it was already very late, there were no pedestrians on the street. Therefore, she was remarkably conspicuous as she ran into a lane on the west side of the city and sat crying in front of a door: "Just because I ate my little brother’s steamed bun? Why beat me? Humph, mom and dad just favor my brothers and sisters, they don’t care about me at all, so what is the point of staying in such a home? I might as well leave!"

As Nan Feng cried and wiped her tears, she looked very pitiable.

Of course, while she cried, she was also observing her surroundings.

The men in black had not shown up yet.

She continued crying, crying even louder. She cried for a very long time, but the men in black never appeared.

Yege had said there were men in ambush, but she didn’t know where they were hiding. The whole town was silent at this time.

Later, she just pretended to be tired from crying, stood up acting scared, as invariably all little girls who run away from home get scared when their whimper fades out. She reverted her direction and started to walk back.

She continued wiping her tears as she walked.

Yege had given her orders. If there was no movement, she was to return, not to continue risking it.

A few more steps forward and there was a quiet corner of the street. Nan Feng and Yege had previously surveyed this spot. It was a T-shaped location, a good ambush site. If the Evil Cult was going to kidnap Nan Feng, this would be a likely place.

Nan Feng slowed her steps, listening carefully for any nearby movement. She had received training in attuning her hearing in the past. Although she hadn’t used those skills for quite a while, they were not dull yet.

All sounds in the vicinity echoed in her ears.

Yet, she had walked past that corner and there was still no sign of anything unusual.

Nan Feng continued walking forward.

There were just ten meters more until she reached her starting point, the temporary residence Yege had procured for her runaway act.

Was all this effort in vain? Was the whole night wasted?

Just as Nan Feng began to feel disappointed, she heard a rustling sound from behind her. No, actually something was being hurled towards her. It was coming straight for her, carried by the wind!
