Chapter 339: Chapter 340: Is This You?_1

The image flashed through her mind. The spirited youth atop a steed in the painting... Could it be...?

The sounds outside continued. There was now the sound of water and him washing his face, followed by the rustling of his clothes. He must be wiping his body too.

Nan Feng sat there, dazed. Whenever they kissed, he would always blindfold her. Was that to prevent her from seeing through him?

He seldom expressed emotions. His smile was always casual, his speech always nonchalant. When he occasionally laughed out loud, he would turn his back. Was it similar to a woman applying a face mask, unable to make exaggerated expressions?

And what about the warmth of his face?

The water sounds outside had ceased. They were replaced by the sound of him fetching water from the yard, followed by the closing of the door, and his approaching footsteps.

Nan Feng sat still, her hands clutching the bedsheet, her eyes blankly staring at the door.

With a creak, her room door swung open. Nan Feng first saw a long leg step inside and then he stood before her.

It took Nan Feng a long time to muster the courage to take her gaze from his legs and move upwards. Even though she was prepared, she was still stunned when her eyes finally met his face.

Indeed, it was the man from the painting.

Bushy eyebrows, large eyes, a high-bridged nose, and dark skin. His features weren’t chiseled to perfection, but they were so comforting, giving an impression of strength with a hint of tenderness.

When Nan Feng first saw the man in the painting, her heart had been pounding, thinking that such a man could only exist in a painting. But now, seeing him in person, she was merely sitting there, dumbfounded.

Yes, dumbfounded.

It felt like a boyfriend, with whom you had an extensive romantic relationship, one day suddenly tells you, "Hey, this is my actual appearance." At this point, would you still prefer him, or your mental image?

Nan Feng remained motionless, even when he sat down next to her, wrapped his arms around her waist, and gently lifted her chin.

He wanted her to look at him.

Nan Feng did look at him, but he simultaneously felt familiar yet unfamiliar.

Familiar, because of his gaze.

Unfamiliar, because of his appearance.

He didn’t utter a word. Because, he assumed, she understood.

After a long time, she finally reached out to touch his face, from his nose to his chin. This was her first time touching his face. She had never done so before, not even once.

She recalled that there were multiple times during their intimate moments, she wanted to touch his face. Yet, he always seemed to manage to avoid it.

"So, this is the real you?" Nan Feng murmured.

He nodded in agreement.

Nan Feng had been anxious. Anxious about letting him stay over for the night, but now she was shocked, having forgotten her previous apprehension and shyness.

She touched his face again: "How can you apply makeup so well?"

"It’s not makeup, it’s a disguise," he said.

Nan Feng also learned about disguising while studying at the Special Agent school. A person could be made to look like another, but it was temporary. It could last a day or two, but maintaining it for six months or a year was not feasible, right?

He had appeared before her in his present appearance for at least a year now.

Was the ancient disguise technique really so powerful? Even she, a graduate from the Special Agent School, hadn’t noticed. He hadn’t left any trace or perhaps he did, but her careless scrutiny overlooked it every time.
