Chapter 298: Chapter 299: Making a Wish (Third Update)_1

Ye Ge had already spread out the lanterns by the river and started to light them. Nan Feng hurried over to help.

"These lanterns are really beautiful," Nan Feng said while lighting them. The craftsmanship of the ancients was definitely commendable. Each lantern was made so lifelike. Take the lotus flower for example - after dyeing it and putting it into the water, it looked just like a real lotus.

Ye Ge laughed and said, "Actually, these are just ordinary lanterns."

"Oh? Are there more beautiful ones? I have only seen this kind," Nan Feng said.

"Yes, there are," Ye Ge laughed again and then he said, "However, the beauty of a lantern depends on whom you are viewing it with. If the person in front of you is someone you like, then the lantern would be the most beautiful. If the person is not someone you like, what good is a lamp studded with gold?"

Nan Feng was first sweetened by Ye Ge’s pleasant words, but then she quickly changed the subject: "There are lanterns studded with gold? But aren’t lanterns usually cast into the water to be washed away by the river? Wouldn’t it be a waste if they were made of gold?"

Ye Ge said, "It’s just a metaphor."

"Oh," Nan Feng felt like she was quite the money-grubber.

Ye Ge then took out a piece of paper and a pen and handed them to Nan Feng, "You have to write down your wish when you release the lantern, what’s your wish?"

Nan Feng was instantly embarrassed. She didn’t know how to write with a brush.

"My wish is... How about this, I’ll tell you and you can write it for me, okay?" Nan Feng said.

It seemed that Ye Ge also realized something - Nan Feng could read, but she seldom wrote. She was worried that her handwriting would not look nice.

"You have to write it yourself when releasing the lantern. It’s not effective if someone else writes it for you. You can also draw it," Ye Ge said.

Nan Feng found another excuse: "It’s too dark here, I can’t see clearly."

Ye Ge brought the lantern close to Nan Feng: "I’ll illuminate it for you."

"But ... this place is not flat, it’s hard to write."

"You can put the paper on the grassy ground by the river," Ye Ge said.

"..." Nan Feng felt that she couldn’t escape anymore and had to put the paper and pen down. Then she said to Ye Ge: "Then you can’t peek. If you peek, it won’t work."

Ye Ge said: "I promise not to peek."

Nan Feng, therefore, flattened the paper and wrote under the light of the lantern. The words were naturally crooked, and she used simplified characters.

Ye Ge wouldn’t be able to read it anyway. Besides, the lantern would sink into the river not long after it floated away.

Once she finished writing, Nan Feng folded the paper and placed it in a lotus-shaped lantern. Then she said to Ye Ge, "I’m done."

Ye Ge also took a piece of paper from his inner pocket and put it in another lantern saying, "I’m done too."

"Eh, when did you write that?" Nan Feng asked.

"I wrote it on Mid-Autumn Festival," Ye Ge laughed.

Then they both watched the lanterns, carrying their wishes, float away with the current.

As night deepened, the stars became brighter, and only the sound of the flowing water and insects could be heard by the riverside.

Nan Feng watched the lanterns gradually disappear, then she turned around to look at Ye Ge.

Just then, Ye Ge also turned to look at her. Their eyes met and Nan Feng’s heart trembled. It felt as if their gazes were sticking together, then sparks flew, and she couldn’t look away.

"Nan Feng..." Ye Ge softly called her.

"Yes," Nan Feng replied, but she still couldn’t move her eyes away.

Ye Ge then gently lifted her chin, Nan Feng closed her eyes, and their soft lips entwined again. Nan Feng actively embraced Ye Ge, who gently wrapped his arms around her waist. She was pressed tightly against him.

This was the first time Ye Ge had kissed her without covering her face. The kiss was so long that Nan Feng felt almost breathless. She also opened her eyes to look at Ye Ge, but it was hazy in the night, so she couldn’t see his face clearly.

She closed her eyes again, fully engrossed in Ye Ge’s kiss.

It felt as if the kiss had lasted a whole century....
