Chapter 279: Chapter 280 His Dominance (First Update)_1

The voice was somewhat hoarse, the kind boys have when they’re going through puberty.

At first, Nan Feng didn’t recognize the voice, but as she turned around, she saw Mo Wenxuan sitting in the carriage.

Mo Wenxuan jumped off the carriage and walked over to Nan Feng, chuckling, "What a coincidence, running into you here."

Nan Feng also responded, "Yes, indeed, very coincidental. I just came back from the Yamen."

"What a coincidence. I just came from the Yamen too," said Mo Wenxuan.

Nan Feng thought that Mo Wenxuan might be in some trouble and asked subconsciously, "What were you doing at the Yamen?"

"Just... some business. I paid a visit to the county magistrate," answered Mo Wenxuan.

"Oh, you being such a brilliant scholar, a future official, it’s quite proper you should visit the county magistrate," said Nan Feng, smiling.

Mo Wenxuan laughed awkwardly, "Yeah, Mr. Jiang recommended me, I might be able to become an official under Mr. Song."

"The county magistrate can also take disciples?" Nan Feng asked.

She thought only sages like Confucius could take disciples.

"Not exactly a disciple per se, more like casually requesting governance advice from Mr. Song, and interpreting the texts left by the sages," Mo Wenxuan was becoming more patient when talking to Nan Feng.

However, Nan Feng only responded with one word, "Oh".

Mo Wenxuan then asked, "Do you want a ride, I can take you part of the way?"

"No need, I can walk," Nan Feng replied, meanwhile, her eyes were fixated on the figure ahead.

The figure was a passerby carrying a basket of peaches on his shoulder, but Nan Feng felt there was something off about him.

Mo Wenxuan, noticing the fruit vendor, waved him down and asked, "What about these peaches?"

"Four wen per jin," said the fruit vendor.

"Weigh out five jin for me," Mo Wenxuan instructed the fruit vendor then turned back to Nan Feng, "Don’t leave yet, I want to buy some peaches for Uncle Nan."

"You don’t have to be so kind," said Nan Feng, "We have other fruits at home."

"Please accept them anyway," Mo Wenxuan said, "You refuse my ride, you refuse my peaches, we are from the same town. You’re acting quite distant."

Nan Feng felt Mo Wenxuan was a bit dominant; he was assertively domineering when he disliked someone, and equally so when he was being kind.

"Alright, have him weigh them out then," Nan Feng stopped refusing, but she kept a wary eye on the fruit vendor.

The fruit vendor was putting peaches into a paper bag, due to the bag being small, he had to use several. Nan Feng watched him pick out the peaches.

One, two, three... filling three bags in total.

Until he finished weighing, the suspicious passerby made no other movements.

Nan Feng thought to herself, perhaps, she was being overly cautious? The man was a bit odd, but did he truly have malicious intentions?

The peaches had already been handed over to Mo Wenxuan, who paid and stuffed peaches into Nan Feng’s arms, "Nan Feng, take these."

"Are you giving them all to me? You’re not keeping some for yourself?" Nan Feng asked while glancing at the fruit vendor.

The fruit vendor had already picked up his pole, appearing as though he was going to leave.

Mo Wenxuan answered her previous question, "No need, there are other fruits at home. By the way, when are you going back to Da Ping Village? Let me know if you do, this carriage I’m riding in is my own..."

Before Mo Wenxuan could finish what he was saying, Nan Feng saw the fruit vendor suddenly pull out a short knife from his bosom and stab towards her, but since she was vigilant, she quickly dodged.
