Chapter 276: Chapter 277: The Person in the Painting (Second Update) _1
"Who said blocking the path must always involve robbing and raping?" One of the men spread his arms to block the way. "I am just bored and want to have a cricket fight. If you don’t appease me today, I won’t let you get past."
Nan Feng scoffed, "All right, let me see your cricket."
The man handed his cricket container to Nan Feng. Nan Feng took the pot, looked back at the two men. He coldly sneered once more before suddenly smacking the pot on the head of the man in front—
Before the scream could stop, the man behind was tipped over to the ground by Nan Feng’s kick, tumbling in a heap.
The cricket container broke, and two crickets ran out, making a series of chirping sounds.
Nan Feng gave a harsh kick on the back of the man in the front, "This is the payback for that little lady yesterday. You want to stop me? Dream on! Go and play by yourselves."
...
Nan Feng raced to Ye Ge’s bedroom, the door was locked from the outside, indicating Ye Ge wasn’t there.
Knowing Ye Ge’s schedule, she figured he’d be back soon. So, she unlocked the door, sat by Ye Ge’s desk and waited. After all, someone else was following those shrews; the local law enforcement likely couldn’t catch them.
This gave her a chance to calm down, rather than rush in fluster and fail to explain things properly.
There was a teapot and teacups on the desk. Thirsty, Nan Feng poured herself a cup of tea. After she drank it, she found this tea particularly fragrant, she didn’t know what type it was, but it tasted almost the same as the one she drank at the headquarters of the Dragon Tooth gang leader’s day.
After finishing the first cup, she poured another. As she tilted her head back, she suddenly noticed a half-hidden painting on the cupboard next to Ye Ge’s desk. The painting was rolled up, presumably put away hastily by Ye Ge when he left.
Nan Feng remembered the two paintings she had done in Ye Ge’s house. Ye Ge had only returned one to her so could this one on the top of the cupboard be the other one?
Should she take it down and look?
But Ye Ge wasn’t there. Could she touch his stuff?
It should be ok, right? Considering how far they had come, her own money was stored here. What’s the big deal looking at one of his paintings?
Besides, it’s highly possible that this painting was done by him for her.
Seemingly, there were two little voices in Nan Feng’s head arguing: one said to look, the other opposed it.
After a struggle, Nan Feng still climbed onto the chair to take the painting down.
To show respect to Ye Ge, she carefully placed the painting on the desk.
Something wasn’t right, the paper seemed yellowish, probably not a recent piece, it must be an old work.
Nan Feng’s interest surged instantly. What would Ye Ge draw?
As the painting was slowly unrolled, the figure gently emerged in front of Nan Feng’s eyes. She only felt her breath hitching just a little.
The painting depicted a young man, gallant and resolute, riding a tall and majestic horse. Although it was only a side face, the well-defined profile was memorable at just one glance.
It was not a captivating face that looked alluringly evil, nor a chiseled face that was impeccably beautiful, neither an icy aura coming from the depths of hell. It was a kind of firm and resolute spirit that made everything else look dull in contrast.
A man full of vigor and toughness, yet not lacking in tenderness.
The man in the painting was...
There was no additional text on the painting, only a signature: Nini.
Nini?
Just as Nan Feng was mesmerized by the painting, suddenly the door was opened from the outside.
Nan Feng was so engrossed that she jumped at the sound of the door. She almost dropped the painting in her hand due to the shock.
