Chapter 256: Chapter 257: Fighting for You Again (Second Part)_1
Meanwhile, Pi Tou lunged at Nan Feng again, throwing a punch in her direction. With a slight turn, Nan Feng dodged it effortlessly, then followed with a swift uppercut, hitting him on the chin and knocking out two of his teeth.
Pi Tou cried out in pain, irritated by how she always used the same move.
In reality, it was simply because he was shorter, making his chin an easy target for Nan Feng.
After getting beaten, the two men scrambled away in defeat.
Before they left though, they had one last parting shot for Nan Feng: "Just you wait and see, we’ll be back to trash your dump of a shop tonight!"
Feng Gu sat there by the door, utterly astonished. She was even more in awe of Nan Feng now. Not only was she beautiful and shrewd in business, she was also clever and could hold her own in a fight. Feng Gu wished she could always stay by Nan Feng’s side.
The rest of the bystanders, however, expressed their concern.
They speculated that Nan Feng had shown momentary courage, but if the entire Longya gang sought revenge, she wouldn’t stand a chance.
Gradually, they all started sympathizing with Nan Feng.
"Girl, you better watch your back. They’ll be after you for sure," warned several of them.
"Yes, make sure to lock your doors tonight. They might come knocking."
"Not just knocking, they could even resort to arson and murder. You won’t even see it coming."
"..."
The crowd chattered amongst themselves while Nan Feng grew increasingly worried.
Yes, she had managed to beat up the Longya gang members momentarily. But what would happen to Feng Gu, who lived here, if those thugs returned at night for revenge?
Yet, having to pay them protection money was absolutely unacceptable to Nan Feng. Why should she have to hand over hard-earned money to those lazy thugs?
Without wasting any time, Nan Feng rushed off to find Brother Ye.
...
Night had fallen, yet Spikenard Square was still lit up.
Nan Feng and Feng Gu were in the shop, eating the beef noodles they had bought from the backstreet.
Feng Gu ate nervously, checking on Nan Feng now and then. Seeing Nan Feng eat so calmly, she relaxed a little.
Feng Gu asked, "Sister Nan Feng, do you think... those thugs will come tonight?"
Nan Feng looked up at Feng Gu and reassured her, "Don’t worry, Brother Ye will be here soon."
"But I’ve heard from other shop owners that the Longya gang always comes in large numbers. Even if Brother Ye brought all the folks from the Yamen, they wouldn’t be enough. I heard the Yamen is understaffed," Feng Gu still had lingering doubts.
Nan Feng smiled, "Brother Ye won’t come with Yamen staff, he alone will be enough."
"What?"
As Nan Feng recalled Brother Ye single-handedly fighting off more than forty mountain bandits, a feeling of deep admiration welled up within her, "That’s right, just Brother Ye alone is enough!"
...
After finishing their meal, Nan Feng had Feng Gu wash the dishes. She sat in the shop under the lamplight, engrossed in a book on business strategies.
Suddenly, a man walked into the shop from the shadowy night. He casually sat down in front of Nan Feng and placed his knife on the table.
Nan Feng looked up at Brother Ye. The two exchanged understanding smiles.
Resting her chin in her hand, Nan Feng teased him, "Having a boyfriend who knows how to fight sure is awesome. I don’t have to lift a finger and I get to reap all the benefits."
Brother Ye picked up the tease, "It’s a good thing the guy you like is me, otherwise who would be around to fight your battles?"
"Aren’t you annoyed by always having to fight on my behalf?"
"You’re always stirring up trouble and that doesn’t bother me. Why should cleaning up a bit of the mess be a problem?"
"..."
The silence tonight was deep, their conversation clear. Feng Gu anxiously listened in on their exchange. Her heart was pounding out of her chest.
Given the situation, she couldn’t believe they had the mood to flirt and utter sweet nothings.
And Brother Ye came alone, without bringing any of his men.
Wasn’t he supposed to have a high-ranking position at the Yamen?
