Chapter 225: Chapter 226: You’re back?_1
Nan Quanyou’s face was extremely ashen, he looked rather feeble, all he could manage was a weak statement: "My leg is just hurting terribly."
"The analgesic powder isn’t helping the pain?" questioned Nan Feng.
"It’s provided some alleviation," Nan Quanyou replied.
Observing his frail state, Nan Feng refrained from probing further. Just then, a young medical apprentice handed her several packets of medicine and advised, "Take one packet per day, brewed with water. Drink it three times a day, continuously for three days. Remember to come back every afternoon for a fresh batch of medicine. Doctor An does not keep people waiting, if you’re late, he’ll attend to other patients. These conditions do not favor your father’s leg recovery."
"Understood, thank you, young man," Nan Feng thanked the medical apprentice.
The medical apprentice, seeing that Nan Feng is merely a slender young miss, took the initiative and helped load Nan Quanyou onto the handcart. Nan Feng thanked the young apprentice again and then departed pushing Nan Quanyou out.
Unsure if the ancient painkillers all happened to contain a slight hypnotic effect, Nan Quanyou gradually fell asleep on the moving handcart.
Nan Feng looked at Nan Quanyou with an affectionate smile. He’s better off sleeping; when he’s asleep, he wouldn’t feel the pain.
Not far from Doctor An’s clinic was a bustling marketplace. Cautiously navigating the handcart, Nan Feng worried about pedestrians or horse-drawn carriages recklessly bumping into it, Nan Quanyou’s leg had just been set; anything could go wrong at any time.
Her gaze alternating between Nan Quanyou and pedestrians on both sides, she called out to those ahead, "Excuse us, could you please make way for us..."
As she continued to push the cart, she suddenly noticed it lighten. Someone swiftly took over pushing the cart.
Upon looking up, Nan Feng saw a pair of deep eyes set in dark skin looking back at her.
She was overjoyed at the sight but lowered her voice, keeping in mind the asleep Nan Quanyou, "You’re back?"
The elder brother, Ye, smiled at her before he took her hand off the handle of the handcart and said, "Let me do it."
"Okay," Nan Feng smiled back gratefully at him.
After several seconds of exchanged glances, Ye took over pushing the handcart and she followed by his side. Nevertheless, Nan Feng didn’t let her guard down. She kept an eye on both the surrounding pedestrians and Ye.
With his attention on Nan Quanyou, Ye voiced his concerns about potential collisions in the busy marketplace. He took over as the one reminding people to make way, "Excuse us, please make way..."
His voice was deep and hoarse. Clad in his guard uniform, bystanders naturally cleared the way without much persuasion, quickly making way for them pass through the crowd.
It wasn’t until they’d crossed the bustling area and were among less-crowded streets that Nan Feng and Ye finally struck up a quiet conversation.
The opening question was from Ye, "How was today’s treatment? What did the doctor say?"
"It went pretty smoothly. The doctor didn’t say much, just told us to come back for a change of medicine every day."
"Is there a fixed time for changing the medicine?"
"Yes, it’s fixed. Around the time of Shen, every day."
Ye nodded and said to Nan Feng, "You’ll have a hard time in the coming days."
"It’s okay, isn’t he my father? Taking my father to the doctor isn’t really a question of hardship." Nan Feng then shifted the focus to Ye, "Aren’t you having a tough time too? Running around outside every day, protecting the county magistrate, I bet you’re not eating or sleeping well, are you?"
Having previously participated in a training drill known as "Protect the President", Nan Feng understood the responsibilities and unflagging vigilance required to protect someone.
"It’s fine," Ye only responded briefly, but then he hesitated, adding, "It’s just that..."
"Just what?"
