Chapter 211: Chapter 212: Nan Quanyou Treating Leg_1

"Father, we can’t delay treating your leg any longer. If we do, it might become even worse. Right now, it’s just rheumatism, but if it gets worse as you get older, you might not be able to use your leg at all. You don’t want to be bedridden all the time, right? Besides, if you are confined to bed, I will have to take care of you every day, won’t that be more tiresome? It’s better to suffer a little now to make things better for both of us in the future, don’t you think?"

Nan Quanyou thought of a family in the village. Their old man had a stroke and was bedridden, needing assistance for even the most basic bodily functions. As the saying goes, a long illness wears out even dutiful children. They would pass off the responsibility to one another until the old man’s health finally gave out and he passed away.

In the end, Nan Quanyou agreed to go into the county.

The road to the county was the same as always. They first took a donkey cart that goes with the wind to town, then a horse-drawn carriage from town.

Nan Quanyou was quite nervous throughout the journey, appearing as jittery as a maiden leaving home for the first time. Nan Feng had to reassure him and encourage him to relax all the way.

Finding the county’s orthopedic doctor wasn’t easy. They finally found the medical hall late in the afternoon.

Upon reaching the entrance of the medical hall, however, they were taken aback.

Patients had formed a long queue outside the hall. These patients must have flocked from all over because of the doctor’s renown. There were those limping like Nan Quanyou, those sitting in wheelchairs, and even those being carried on stretchers.

"Fengfeng, what do we do? If we have to wait like this, I fear it will be dark by the time it’s our turn. We won’t be able to get back," Nan Quanyou said.

However, Nan Feng was determined to have him seen by the doctor, "Father, since we’re already here, we must have the doctor see your condition today. If we’re unable to return, we’ll just find an inn in the county to stay for the night and then return home tomorrow."

"Well..." Nan Quanyou was just worried about the expenses, "Staying in the county could cost quite a bit, right?"

"It won’t cost much. I’ve brought enough money with me today."

As she spoke, Nan Feng moved to the back of the line to wait their turn.

Luckily, they had come early. Not long after they got in line, a young medical apprentice stepped out of the hall. He counted the people in line, and then draped a rope to mark the end of the queue. The people who came after that were not allowed to get in line.

Nan Feng watched their disappointed faces and then gave Nan Quanyou an encouraging smile, "Father, see? This medical hall never runs out of patients. If we don’t queue up today, who knows if we would even get a chance tomorrow."

All Nan Quanyou could reply was, "That’s true, that’s true."

There were also a few vendors nearby selling candies, sugar water, and dim sum. Because they couldn’t leave the area cordoned by the rope, Nan Feng called a vendor over, bought two bowls of sugar water and a few pieces of osmanthus cake, and waited while enjoying their food with Nan Quanyou.

As they hadn’t had lunch, everything tasted exceptionally delicious.

There was a couple ahead of them in the line who brought a mat, and seeing Nan Quanyou’s leg gave them difficulty, they invited him over to sit with them.

And so, they waited while sitting down.

The couple told them that they traveled all the way from Lin County. They couldn’t get a spot in line earlier, so they decided to stay in the county for a few days, making it possible to see the doctor every day.

It turned out the wife had a back injury.

Nan Feng asked, "Auntie, how long have you had this condition?"

"For two or three years now. I fell and hurt myself. I’ve seen many doctors but none could cure me. My back has even started to hunch. It’s only after seeing Doctor An that I’m feeling better."

"Oh? Doctor An?"

Nan Feng knew that the clinic was called "Minhe" Hall but didn’t know the doctor’s name.

The woman said, "This Doctor An’s full name is An Nan. His ancestors were all bone healers, incredibly skilled. It was our neighbor who recommended him. Their patriarch had a limp for many years and couldn’t find a cure. Well, his condition was quite like that of your father. After half a year of treatment here, he was completely cured. He’s practically a miracle worker. However..."
