Chapter 1613: Chapter 1435: Epilogue
Morning.
Dabao Xia reluctantly left the house, not even bothering to dress up. She merely tied her hair up casually and wore an old outfit.
Nan Feng watched Dabao Xia and appeared extremely helpless, "At least put on some powder."
"No need, Mom. Your daughter was born beautiful, naturally perfect like a lotus emerging from water, uncarved by art. Powder or no powder, I look the same," said Dabao Xia, and then she carried a small cloth bag and left.
Ye Ge also came out. Ye Ge, watching Dabao Xia walk out, involuntarily frowned, "I never thought our daughter would have to go on a blind date."
He felt that only daughters who couldn’t be married off would have to use this method to find a husband.
"This is the new fashion, you don’t understand. Let them meet alone, so we avoid idle gossip."
"..." Ye Ge still frowned.
Of course, he hoped Dabao Xia would marry off soon, but every father who sees his daughter in this situation feels as though his carefully cultivated Chinese Cabbage is about to be ravaged by a boar.
...
Dabao Xia wandered to the town bored, first buying two skewers of candied hawthorns to eat, and finally slowly made her way to the noodle shop.
The noodle shop in town was small, with only five or six tables. Since it was early, there weren’t many people eating. As soon as she entered, a young man in his twenties stood up and waved at her, "Are you Lady Dabao?"
"Tao Shanding?" Dabao Xia asked.
"Yes, I’m Tao Shanding. Dabao, come on over and have a seat," Tao Shanding said with a smile.
He was the typical country lad, not very tall, with somewhat dark skin, but he looked healthy. When he wasn’t smiling, he seemed very simple and honest, but his smile made him seem cheerful.
Perhaps because of his sunny smile, Dabao Xia didn’t dislike him and walked over to sit across from him.
"Want a bowl of beef noodles?" Tao Shanding asked Dabao Xia.
"Sure. Would you like some candied haw, too?" Dabao Xia offered him the other skewer of candied hawthorns in her hand.
Tao Shanding shook his head, "No need. I rarely eat sweet things. You eat it."
"Okay, then I’ll have it myself," Dabao Xia said without ceremony, and started to eat her candied hawthorns.
Tao Shanding called a server over, "Two bowls of beef noodles, please. Add some extra beef and a plate of smashed cucumbers. That’ll do for now; we’ll order more if it’s not enough."
Only then did Dabao Xia really look at Tao Shanding. The way he spoke was quite pleasant, calm and polite.
"Dabao, actually I’ve seen you before. Do you remember me?" Tao Shanding said.
"I have no memory of you," Dabao Xia said frankly.
"Maybe I’m too unremarkable? Two years ago, the Matchmaker came to my house to propose a match and I sneaked over to Peach Blossom Village to see you. You were playing with a very handsome young man at the time; I thought you two were a couple. Later, when I came again, I heard you’d gone to another place."
Dabao Xia asked, "Then why haven’t you looked for another lady in these two years?"
"The family’s Fruit Garden has been expanding over the past two years. I thought there was no rush, so I just kept on delaying marriage," Tao Shanding said.
"That’s good. The matchmaker said you couldn’t stop thinking about me, I’m glad that’s not the case, otherwise I would have felt guilty, especially since I never even met you," Dabao Xia said.
The beef noodles were ready, and Dabao Xia began to eat her noodles. Tao Shanding smiled as well, and started eating.
