Chapter 1444 - 1266: Xiao’ai, Dabao, Xiaobei

Chapter 1444: Chapter 1266: Xiao’ai, Dabao, Xiaobei

Auntie had always liked Long Aixi and naturally made sure to treat her well, but Auntie was, after all, a woman and wouldn’t manage Long Aixi as Uncle would, arranging this activity and that activity for her whenever she visited. Long Aixi enjoyed the freedom.

However, Auntie was curious about Xia Dabao, wondering why Long Aixi would bring a lady along. She had suspected several times that the two might have eloped, but seeing their not-so-intimate behavior, she was convinced that their relationship was merely that of relatives.

They must be relatives from the Long family side, Auntie thought.

Auntie arranged two adjoining rooms for them, where they stayed comfortably for one night, waking up naturally the next morning. Early the next day, Long Aixi inquired with Auntie about the location of the Imperial Medical Institute and then left with Xia Dabao.

Xia Dabao had been following Long Aixi’s arrangements all along, doing whatever he said, while she herself always felt a bit hesitant.

Or should I say, timid?

Towards Tian Xiaobei, she both wanted and did not particularly long to meet him.

But Long Aixi seemed determined to help her, and she knew his feelings at this moment. It always seemed too cruel to her to proceed this way.

If Long Aixi truly liked her, that is.

So, she remained conflicted throughout the journey, reaching this point almost in a daze.

"Dabao, did you have a good breakfast?" Long Aixi asked, noticing Xia Dabao seemed listless.

The carriage was spacious enough to comfortably fit three or four more people, so it wasn’t cramped inside.

Xia Dabao nodded, "I ate quite well, full indeed."

"In two more streets, we’ll be at the Imperial Medical Institute," Long Aixi reminded her once more.

She responded with a "hmm," gripping the hem of her dress tightly before relaxing and turning to look out the window.

This was her first visit to Capital City, and she found it to be very luxurious. But with her mind in turmoil, she had no desire to admire the sights, even as they passed many delicacies she had never seen before.

And along the way, she and Long Aixi did not talk much, both having some knots in their hearts.

Thinking back to when they first arrived at the county, she was a lively young lady. Now, she seemed as silent as a bottlegourd.

"Xiao’ai, we’ve arrived," the carriage came to a stop, Long Aixi lifted the curtain to look out, then jumped down and helped Xia Dabao off the carriage.

Stepping out of the carriage, Xia Dabao felt that the Imperial Medical Institute looked grand and imposing; studying here wouldn’t be easy, and Xiaobei was right in coming here.

Long Aixi asked Xia Dabao to wait at the entrance while he went to inquire inside. Not long afterward, he came back out: "Tian Xiaobei is indeed studying here, but today is the Institute’s day off, and he’s gone out with friends."

"Gone out?" So, they wouldn’t see him, Xia Dabao thought.

After such a long journey just for a glimpse of him, to be unable to see him was indeed disappointing for Xia Dabao.

And that flicker of disappointment on Xia Dabao’s face did not escape Long Aixi’s notice, causing him a twinge of pain.

Not wanting Xia Dabao to be disappointed, Long Aixi went back to ask again, and a young medic on duty told him that Tian Xiaobei had been picked up by the daughter of Pang the Historian.

The daughter?

Long Aixi felt a hint of confusion but didn’t want to say anything to Xia Dabao before getting the situation clear. He just came back and told Xia Dabao that Tian Xiaobei had gone out, but he would find him as soon as possible.

Xia Dabao nodded her head.

Feeling that Xia Dabao must be eager to see Tian Xiaobei, Long Aixi decided to return to the General Residence to ask a cousin for help in finding him.
