Chapter 1282: Chapter 1104: Xiao’ai, Dabao, Xiaobei
Xia Dabao went back to grab her bundle and, before shutting the yard gate, she gave Axian a deep look.
She wondered if her parents would get angry after seeing the note? Her mother had said that a girl shouldn’t be too forward, as being too forward would make her less valuable in a boy’s eyes.
But Xia Dabao had already been waiting for Tian Xiaobei for over two months, without a single word from him, and summer was nearly upon them. Surely she wasn’t expected to wait until autumn?
Oh well, she would face her parents’ lecture upon her return.
Though she had grown up, her parents had never been willing to scold or hit her.
Though she had grown up, this was the first time she felt that Axian was so important to her.
...
Xia Dabao left home, made her way to the town and then took the town’s carriage to the county seat.
Although she hadn’t been to the Provincial City much before, she knew the way there.
And so, after changing modes of transportation several times, she eventually reached the Provincial City.
Once she arrived, however, she suddenly felt a bit dazed. Nan Feng had once described to Xia Dabao her first visit to the Provincial City. She had said that Fuzhou Province City was so large, she nearly got lost there, and finding any particular place was quite difficult. Moreover, the city folks didn’t think much of country people.
Xia Dabao was now experiencing what Nan Feng had felt back then.
The place she was currently in was the passageway to the Provincial City, teeming with all sorts of people: goods haulers, traders, and some young ladies and gentlemen who seemed to be out for a city stroll. There were horse-drawn carriages, ox carts, and even dung carts—all jumbled together.
Xia Dabao followed the crowd through the city gate, and as night was about to fall, she wondered, where could Tian Xiaobei be?
She often visited the county city for fun, but it was nowhere near as big as the Provincial City. Also, where was Tian Xiaobei’s Medical Hall located? What was it called? She knew nothing about these things.
Xia Dabao stood at the entrance of the city gate, feeling lost for the first time.
"Excuse me, is there a Medical Hall in the Provincial City? The owner’s surname is Tian. It was closed a while ago, but it reopened two months ago," Xia Dabao stopped a passerby to ask, but the passerby simply shook their head, indicating they didn’t know.
Xia Dabao asked several other people, but they all said they didn’t know.
Wasn’t it a famous Medical Hall? Why didn’t anyone know of it?
Xia Dabao then thought that asking at the city gate might not yield much information as those people might be just like her, having just entered the city and unfamiliar with it.
Therefore, Xia Dabao continued walking deeper into the city center, thinking she would find some so-called locals and ask them.
After nightfall, the Commercial Shops along the streets lit up with lanterns, and Xia Dabao knew that the brightest area must be Central City.
Just when she was moving forward, suddenly someone approached Xia Dabao and greeted her, "Little sister, do you need any help?"
Xia Dabao looked up and saw a middle-aged woman who was decently dressed with very pale skin, probably from powder, and she smiled in a very friendly manner.
Her mother had told her not to trust strangers easily, and when she went to the county city to sell lychees, she never chatted with strangers, so she didn’t respond to the woman and just kept walking forward.
"Little sister, you must be lost, right? I’m a local from this city; maybe I can help you," said the woman with a laugh. "Oh dear, I’m not a bad person. I just saw you walking down the street, looking around as if you were searching for something, so I came over to ask."
