Using the light of the candle, Nan Feng took a look and knew that comforting her daughter was the immediate priority. So, she smiled and said, "It finally came, huh? I’ve been waiting for months, thinking it might not come again, which really worried me. Now that it’s here, I can relax. Getting your period is a good thing."

"Mom, how can you talk about it so lightly? What should I do now?" Xia Dabao asked.

"I’ll go get something from my room for you. Don’t change your pants yet; wait until you’ve put it on, understand? And you need to change the quilt," after saying that, Nan Feng went back to her room.

In the room, Ye Ge was still awake. Seeing Nan Feng come back, he quickly asked what was happening. Nan Feng smiled and said, "It’s a girl thing. Our Dabao has finally grown up for real. I’m going back to get something for her."

Ye Ge watched as Nan Feng opened the wardrobe and took out several sanitary pads that she had sewn by hand. She sewed over a dozen of them every month, changing them twice a day during her period because they were more comfortable.

Now that Ye Ge knew that Dabao had started her period, he too was relieved. It was always a good thing for a daughter to grow up.

"Mom, why don’t you sleep with me tonight? It’s been a long time since you and Dabao slept together," Xia Dabao, not wanting her mom to leave, started acting coquettishly in bed.

"Well... okay," Nan Feng agreed, then lifted Xia Dabao’s quilt and climbed into her bed, then blew out the candle. "But you need to stay still when you sleep, or I won’t be able to sleep."

The room returned to darkness, and the night was quiet.
