Chapter 1194: Chapter 1196: Xiao’ai, Dabao, Xiaobei
Axian developed a fever in the morning, when Nan Feng and Brother Ye had already gone to the Potato Garden, leaving Xia Dabao as the only one at home to watch over Axian’s awakening. But even as the sun rose, Axian still hadn’t gotten out of bed. Xia Dabao felt a bit annoyed, thinking to herself what a lazy bug this child was becoming, and went in to tug on Axian’s ear, only to find she couldn’t wake him up no matter how hard she tried.
When she touched Axian’s forehead, oh my, it was so hot. He surely had a fever.
And it was not a mild one.
Xia Dabao then thought about calling Brother Ye and Nan Feng back, since they had experience with children’s fevers. They knew what kind of water to drink, which herbs to pick for reducing the fever, and if that didn’t work, they would need to find a doctor. However, there was no decent doctor in the village; they would have to go to town or ask neighbors for help.
Just as Xia Dabao was about to step out, she saw Tian Xiaobei right outside. Tian Xiaobei had come to see Xia Dabao. Having not seen him for several days, he was very eager to find out what Xia Dabao thought of him, wondering if she detested him to the extreme, as he had been tormented by the thought for some time.
Seeing Xia Dabao rush out from the house in a flurry, Tian Xiaobei quickly called out to her, "Abao, where are you going?"
Hearing this voice, Xia Dabao stopped in her tracks. She too hadn’t seen Tian Xiaobei for several days, but right now... Axian was more important.
"Axian has a fever. I’m going to call Dad and Mom back," Xia Dabao said.
Just about to run off, Tian Xiaobei called Xia Dabao again, "Abao, I can handle it. There’s no need to call your parents back, they must be busy right now."
"This..." Xia Dabao hesitated, "Can you do it?"
"Didn’t I tell you that my family used to run a Medical Hall? I can treat illnesses too," Tian Xiaobei said, walking into the house, with Xia Dabao following closely behind and leading Tian Xiaobei to Axian’s room.
"This is the place. Look at him, his fever is so high that even his lips are reddened," Xia Dabao said, then she called out Axian’s name a couple of times. Axian barely opened his eyes and weakly called, "Sister, Axian... am I going to die?"
"Pff..." Xia Dabao couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time, "Shut that crow’s mouth of yours, who dies that easily? It’s just a fever. Once it subsides, you’ll be fine."
Tian Xiaobei also reassured Axian, "That’s right, Axian. Brother Xiaobei can cure you."
As he spoke, Tian Xiaobei began to examine Axian, instructing Xia Dabao to assist him, "Fever can be caused by many things. First, let’s see if there are white spots in his throat. If there are, we’ll need to treat the throat problem specifically. Abao, bring me a wet towel with some saline on it."
Xia Dabao did as told, although her ability to help was quite limited; she mostly watched Tian Xiaobei take charge.
Tian Xiaobei checked Axian’s throat, took his pulse, pressed a few acupoints, then had Abao prepare warm water and gave Axian a tepid bath.
Throughout the entire process, Tian Xiaobei was calm and organized, with no signs of panic and very adept movements; he clearly had experience treating and curing people before.
Xia Dabao, thinking back to his grass cutting in the fields and his demeanor during everyday chores, felt that the Tian Xiaobei treating illnesses was the real Tian Xiaobei.
He was cut out for this profession.
Tian Xiaobei and Xia Dabao busied themselves all morning, and by noon, Axian’s fever had subsided.
Tian Xiaobei let out a sigh of relief, then instructed Xia Dabao to ensure Axian drank plenty of water, to keep drinking non-stop and urinate more often to recover faster. Furthermore, Axian’s fever was caused by his throat, so they needed to pick herbs. He asked Xia Dabao if they had the necessary herbs at home or if they needed to go up the mountain to pick them.
