Pampered by the Toughest Man After Divorce
Chapter 1105 - 1106: Leaving

Chapter 1105: Chapter 1106: Leaving

As the wife of a prince, Nan Feng was not allowed to visit the sick unless it was a critical moment, so she had no choice but to wait in the Palace. This wait lasted for several days.

The Emperor had actually regained consciousness the day he fainted, but it was due to a fit of rage that he had passed out in the first place. Upon waking, he was extremely weak. The Imperial Physician did not permit him to leave the bed, and Xiaoye, feeling responsible for the disaster, stayed by the bed without leaving, attending to even the most menial tasks.

At first, the Emperor was very angry, but gradually he calmed down. When he questioned Xiaoye again about whether he still insisted on his earlier stance of not marrying Jia Lanxin, Xiaoye affirmed decisively that he would not marry her.

The Emperor decided not to press the issue any further. He was already ill, and worrying about this matter was equivalent to demeaning himself; focusing on recovery was the priority now.

He was just frustrated with his unyielding son.

As Nan Feng waited day after day for Xiaoye without any luck, she was instead visited by the Virtuous Consort.

When the Virtuous Consort arrived, Xiaobao happened to be asleep, which is why Nan Feng appeared more enthusiastic. She was naturally skilled in social interactions and was generous by nature.

Now that the Virtuous Consort had developed a prejudice against Nan Feng, she naturally could not perceive Nan Feng’s warmth.

"Nan Feng, don’t busy yourself, have a seat. I have some matters I’d like to discuss with you," the Virtuous Consort called out to Nan Feng, who was in the process of making tea.

Nan Feng wiped her hands and then sat next to the Virtuous Consort, first asking her, "How is my father’s health now? Is he better?"

The Virtuous Consort looked at Nan Feng with a hint of dissatisfaction still in her heart, "Do you even know what caused your father’s illness?"

Nan Feng shook her head, "Nan Feng guesses it must be due to the toils of state affairs."

"It’s not just the state affairs," complained the Virtuous Consort. "There are also family matters. The royal family isn’t like any ordinary household. The concerns for this large family are endless."

Nan Feng hummed in agreement, thinking who asked you to have three thousand concubines and to bear so many sons, who in turn need to take wives and whose children also need to be managed.

The Virtuous Consort continued, "The Emperor’s illness was provoked by Xiaoye."

"Xiaoye provoked it?" Nan Feng immediately became serious and corrected her demeanor promptly, "But Xiaoye has always been sensible, and, as everyone is clearly aware, he respects the Emperor and you the most."

The Virtuous Consort said, "Though it’s due to Xiaoye, at the root of it, it’s actually because of you."

"Me?" Nan Feng thought, What have I done to deserve this? She had only met the Emperor a few times, yet how could she be blamed for such a matter?

The Virtuous Consort sighed, "The Emperor wished for Xiaoye to marry the Minister’s granddaughter, Jia Lanxin, but Xiaoye stubbornly refused and even said that in the future, he would leave the Imperial Palace to travel the world with you. ’When parents are alive, one shall not travel afar.’ Tell me, isn’t this treasonous?"

A hint of elation flickered in Nan Feng’s heart; Xiaoye had not forgotten his sworn promise after all.

Looking at Nan Feng again, the Virtuous Consort asked, "Surely you don’t share the same thought, do you? Are you just going to let Xiaoye be so willful?"

Nan Feng thought for a moment, then said, "As a woman of the household, I don’t really have any ideas; I mainly follow Xiaoye’s lead."

"But with you around, he will always be caught in the middle. Nan Feng, you are sensible; surely you won’t let Xiaoye continue to be so unruly?" The Virtuous Consort said earnestly, "He must marry the Minister’s granddaughter, and I hope that you, being a broadminded lady, will persuade him."

Persuade?

Nan Feng looked at the Virtuous Consort again, "Your Grace, surely no woman could be so generous as to accept such a thing?"
