Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Any Thoughts? _1

Nan Feng didn’t dare to take credit on her own: "I just suddenly thought of this method, but Ye Ge helped me a lot. Without his participation, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to accomplish it."

Wan Jian’an walked from the riverbank to the vegetable field, and then from the field to the riverbank, looking around: "Actually, I had such an idea two years ago, to use bamboo to divert the water. But when I consulted several craftsmen, they all said it requires very skilled knife work and craftsmanship. Otherwise, it’s easy to cause leakage and fail to connect the bamboo pipes properly. Unbelievably, your Da Ping Village has such amazing talents!"

Nan Feng modestly said, "I dare not, I dare not!"

Wan Jian’an further asked Nan Feng and Ye Ge: "If one day you two no longer want to farm, you can come to the Yamen. I will recommend you to the prefect. You can work at the Yamen, just being in charge of water affairs, how about it?"

This time, Nan Feng and Ye Ge almost shook their heads at the same time: "Thank you for your kindness!"

Nan Feng said: "I still prefer this rural lifestyle of farming. The Yamen is not for me."

Ye Ge didn’t say anything further, but his refusal was even more evident.

His silence was stronger than any words.

The village head had to mediate: "The master’s proposal was too sudden, it frightened the children. Perhaps I should slowly persuade them. Maybe one day they will suddenly change their mind and agree."

Wan Jian’an laughed and said: "Well, you must persuade them effectively."

"Absolutely, absolutely."

...

Wan Jian’an visited Nan Feng’s faucet and later went to Sunset Lake in the afternoon.

Sunset Lake is a freshwater lake located halfway up a mountain. It was formed by a stream flowing from the mountain. The water in the small stream by the rice field is pumped up from the freshwater lake. The pumping rate varies each year. During the rainy season in summer, the lake rises and the water output increases. In the fall and winter seasons when it rains less, the discharge decreases.

Therefore, during the spring planting season, the stream level is low and the water supply is insufficient.

The people of Da Ping Village have always wanted to bring the water from the Sunset Lake into the fields. Some even thought of lowering the embankments of the Sunset Lake. But that could easily lead to the lake infiltrating downwards, possibly flooding the village.

Wan Jian’an surveyed the area near Sunset Lake for quite a while but didn’t come up with an accurate solution. While looking around, he asked: "What do you think could be done to bring the lake water to the bottom of the mountain?"

The village head was taken aback by this question and said nervously, "Um...this... I invited the master here because I don’t know. How would common folks like me know about such difficult things as building a reservoir?"

Wan Jian’an knew the village head wouldn’t have any idea, so he looked at Mo Wenxuan.

Mo Wenxuan thought for a while, saying, "Can’t we dig a hole around the Sunset Lake on the mountain so that water can flow out? Then we install a water gate near the opening. When we need water, just open the gate."

Wan Jian’an laughed and shook his head: "I fear that the people digging the hole would be washed away even before the water gate is installed."

Wan Jian’an turned to Nan Feng: "Girl, what’s your idea?"

Nan Feng contemplated: "I...don’t have any ideas."

In fact, her previous idea was similar to Mo Wenxuan’s. Since Wan Jian’an had rejected it, she simply didn’t mention it, so as to avoid others saying that she and Mo Wenxuan were of one mind.

Wan Jian’an then turned to Ye Ge and asked, "So, Ye Ge, do you have any ideas?"
