Chapter 1036: Chapter 836: Making Things Difficult
She looked up and saw Huahua arrogantly holding several silver dollars, "Hey, you who pick up cow dung, I have money here, do you want to earn it?"
Nan Feng glanced at Huahua and ignored her, continuing to search for cow dung on the grassland.
"Hey, if you’re willing to crawl under my legs, I’ll give you these silver dollars, what do you say? These silver dollars are enough for you to eat for two months."
Nan Feng cursed Huahua silently in her heart and paid her no attention.
"Is it just crawling once? Would you rather pick up dung here every day than take these few silver dollars? Let me tell you, it’s going to rain here tomorrow for sure. When it rains, you won’t be able to pick up dung, then what will you eat?" As soon as Huahua said this, many people around them started laughing.
Some felt that Huahua’s words were as if they were saying that if Nan Feng couldn’t pick up dung tomorrow, she’d have to eat dung the next day.
Nan Feng turned around, ready to burst out, but upon glancing at the baby in her arms—who was awake at that moment, looking up at her with black eyes that seemed to smile, giggling at Nan Feng—her anger dissipated in an instant.
There was no need to get angry. If it was going to rain tomorrow, then she would pick up more today to try and exchange for more food. As long as she was frugal, she could hold out for a few more days. Anyway, everything else on the grassland was expensive, only meat was cheap. Eating meat, in turn, could produce more milk.
Seeing that she’d made no impact, Huahua turned and walked away.
However, when Nan Feng returned to the cow dung collection point, she saw Huahua there again. The place smelled a bit, as a lot of the dung had to be dried further with fire, causing waves of unpleasant odor to assail the senses.
Huahua covered her mouth and nose with a fan, seemingly waiting for Nan Feng. When Nan Feng approached, Huahua finally looked at the man collecting the dung, "You know what to do, right?"
Upon hearing this, Nan Feng knew something was wrong.
Indeed, the dung collector said to Nan Feng with a troubled face, "I’m sorry, we’ve already collected enough dung for today, we don’t need any more. Please go back."
Nan Feng became anxious, "Why is this happening? It was clearly agreed that you needed it every day. I’ve picked it up and brought it here, but now you say you don’t need it—is this because of Huahua’s instructions?"
The dung collector shook his head helplessly, "Anyway, we don’t need it. I can’t afford to offend any of you. You should just go back."
"No way," Nan Feng stepped forward to block the man, "You have to take it whether you want to or not. Either way, I must leave the cow dung here today."
"Lady, why are you so stubborn? We’ve already agreed we don’t need it."
"Give me the money!" Nan Feng didn’t want to be so shamelessly insistent, but this was the fruit of her labor, "I give you the dung, and you must give me the money!"
As she was about to snatch it, Huahua stepped in her way and gave her a shove, "How can you be so shameless? They already said they don’t need it, but you insist on giving it anyway. You really have thick skin—coming here directly to snatch money. Let me tell you, my brother is in charge of maintaining peace in this area, and someone as troublesome as you should be arrested and put in jail."
Without thinking, Nan Feng slapped Huahua across the face, "You’re pushing me too far. Do you know what this little bit of money means to me? This money can feed two people!"
Huahua had always been used to being overbearing. She didn’t care about Nan Feng’s current situation at all—if Nan Feng hit her, she would hit back.
