Chapter 1033: Chapter 833: Baby Xiaobao
Every time she saw him and responded with cold words, his heart was filled with rage, convinced that she understood nothing about him.
It was not until Xiaobao was a full month old that Tuoba Lie finally visited the inside of Nan Feng’s tent.
Approaching the entrance, he caught a whiff of the milky scent that all infant rooms possess, though he couldn’t tell if it emanated from the child or the clothes in the room.
Tuoba Lie had expected to see a messy chamber, but to his surprise, the room was meticulously tidy. He wasn’t sure if it was Nan Feng or the maid who kept it so clean, for Nan Feng wasn’t there at the moment, only the month-old infant lay on the bed.
Tuoba Lie couldn’t help but take a glance over.
The child was wide awake, flailing arms and legs about the bed, drooling, making burping sounds with her lips, and when she saw Tuoba Lie, she smiled at him, intentionally or not, and shrank her limbs in excitement.
Did she like him?
At that moment, something softened inside Tuoba Lie.
She looked nothing like the wrinkled creature at birth; she had grown quite a bit and now bore little resemblance to Nangong Ye. Her features clearly mirrored Nan Feng’s.
Without a second thought, Tuoba Lie picked up the little one, who wasn’t frightened in his arms at all, only curiously staring at him, those eyes incredibly endearing.
"What’s your name?" asked Tuoba Lie.
Obviously, the little one wouldn’t answer, blinking instead before yawning.
"Are you sleepy?" he asked again.
Another yawn from the little one confirmed it; from excitement to drowsiness in the blink of an eye, and after the third yawn, her eyelids would lift no more, and she quickly fell asleep, resting her head trustingly against his chest.
Tuoba Lie couldn’t help but smile.
Nan Feng was so afraid of him, and yet, this little one was not.
Tuoba Lie was about to put her back into her bed when suddenly, there came a loud "clang" at the door. The infant in his arms trembled but soon fell asleep again.
It was Nan Feng. Seeing Tuoba Lie holding the little one, she was terrified. Discarding the food she was carrying, she rushed over, snatching the baby from him with obvious alarm in her voice, "Tuoba Lie, what are you doing?"
Tuoba Lie’s arms were now empty, the little one in Nan Feng’s hands, and he couldn’t help but ask Nan Feng, "What do you think I’m doing?"
"I’ve told you, don’t mess with my child. If anything happens to her, I’ll die right in front of you."
Tuoba Lie couldn’t help moving closer to Nan Feng and then sneered, "Die? Nan Feng, you’ve given birth to another man’s child, you treat me as an enemy, and you are even incapable of serving in my chambers. How would your death pose any threat to me?"
"You..." Nan Feng looked at Tuoba Lie.
He was right.
On these grasslands, she was just his puppet. The only reason she was alive was that he fancied her and wanted her, but she had given him nothing so far. How long could she potentially be of value to him?
She was alone before and managed somehow, but now with a child, just like earlier, seeing him hold her child made her uncontrollably nervous. That child was now her life.
