Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Don’t Let Me Down

Pridefully raising her head, "As you wish, I’ll leave."

Once that arrogant figure disappeared from the entrance of the study room, Thomas Shannon’s gaze suddenly darkened.

The maid went downstairs and had the Chief Chef prepare another midnight snack. Holding the steaming and fragrant snack, the maid went upstairs to the study room.

The study door was tightly closed, with no light seeping through.

The maid hesitated, wondering if she should knock. Just then, Charlie River approached from the end of the corridor. "What are you doing here?"

The maid turned to face Charlie River. "The Young Master asked the kitchen to make another midnight snack. He wants to personally bring it to Miss Shaw."

"The Young Master is already resting. You can go."

Although puzzled, the maid obeyed, retreated a few steps, then turned and headed downstairs.

The Chief Chef watched nervously as the maid returned with the untouched midnight snack. "What happened? Did Miss Shaw still have no appetite?"

The maid shook her head. "The Young Master has gone to rest."

"Didn’t you say the Young Master wanted to personally serve Miss Shaw the midnight snack?"

With an innocent expression, the maid replied, "That’s what the Young Master said, yes, but I can’t pretend to understand his thoughts."

The Chief Chef waved his hand. "It’s getting late. Go and rest."

The Chief Chef let out a sigh of relief. His position was safe for now.

Sophie returned to her bedroom in the backyard, closed the door, changed her clothes, and lay down on the bed. Her mind was a mess, but she forced herself to stay calm. Within just one hour, she fell fast asleep.

「The next day.」

As soon as it was light, the maid woke her up for work.

Expressionless, Sophie silently changed into her maid outfit and followed the maid, doing whatever she was told. She was uncharacteristically cooperative; her proud backbone seemed to have been removed from her body overnight.

Even when the maid deliberately made things difficult for her, Sophie silently bore it all, not arguing or fighting for herself. She accepted everything that came her way.

This actually made the maid feel a bit bored. At noon, the maid brought Sophie to Minimus Hart.

"Sister Minnie, the maniac has completed her work for the morning."

Minimus Hart nodded. "You can leave. I’ll assign the maniac her work for the afternoon."

"Yes, Sister Minnie." The maid turned and left.

Sophie stood there expressionless, staring at the ground without a ripple of emotion.

Minimus Hart circled her, her soft yet sarcastic laughter clearly audible to Sophie. "Maniac, why aren’t you speaking?"

"What do you want me to say?"

"Tell me, what are your feelings about your work this morning?"

"I feel nothing."

Minimus Hart rested a hand on her forehead. No feelings? Was the workload too light?

"Alright then, the task of cleaning the crocodile this afternoon is yours." Minimus Hart placed a hand on Sophie’s shoulder, patting it gently twice. "Do a good job. Don’t disappoint me."

Sophie raised her hand and brushed Minimus Hart’s hand from her shoulder, coldly glaring at her, "Is it the same crocodile that ate your companions?"

"I don’t understand what you’re talking about." Minimus Hart’s expression remained unchanged, her smile beaming.

Sophie withdrew her gaze and looked into the distance. "As long as you know it in your heart. Minimus Hart, I won’t mess with anyone unless they mess with me first. You’d better clean up your tracks every time. Otherwise..."

With a sneer, Sophie strode away.

Watching her retreating figure, Minimus Hart’s smile vanished, and her eyes darkened.

Sophie went to the medical office to ask the doctor for medicine.

"Come here. Let me take a look at your vocal cords."

The doctor gestured for her to lie down on the examination table.
