Chapter 264: Chapter 264 South Lane
"I will."
An Yin lowered her head in thought, the cash on her felt like a hot potato, making her anxious.
The two took a taxi back to school, taking turns to pay; when it came to money, they had a tacit understanding, making things very clear.
Back in the dormitory, An Yin took out the red envelope at the first moment, hiding it in her personal wardrobe. Then, she took out her phone, glanced at her WeChat, and found that someone wanted to add her as a friend. Suddenly, a man’s face flashed in her mind.
After some hesitation, An Yin added the person.
His WeChat name was simple - "Meng Sihan," three characters, which An Yin didn’t even need to note.
Thinking about that ten thousand yuan, An Yin opened their chat interface and started typing a message.
After editing a sentence, she felt there was something amiss with her wrinkled face. After several edits, she finally sent out a piece of text.
An Yin: [The money you gave is too much; it makes me very anxious. When will you come to the bar, so I can return it to you?]
Thinking it over, An Yin didn’t want to take someone else’s money for no reason.
She always knew that sometimes in the private rooms, encountering generous customers could earn some tips. Previously in the dressing room, she heard the female attendants comparing the tips they received. An Yin listened carefully, and a particular waitress very proudly said she received five hundred yuan.
After sending the message, it was like dropping a stone into the sea.
Meanwhile, another troubling issue was bothering her. Jiang Keke’s words from the afternoon had left a significant impact on her mind. But Meng Sihan’s analysis made a bit of sense to her as well.
An Yin went to her bed, leaned back entirely, and let out a long sigh.
"Ah..."
Her voice was soft and sugary, filled with endless melancholy.
At the same time, the sound of the shower came from the washroom. After Shi Qing returned to the dormitory, she went to freshen up, while An Yin remained sullen and low in spirits.
That night, An Yin rarely suffered from insomnia.
The next morning, when she woke up, she only felt her eyelids were heavy, her head dizzy, and very uncomfortable.
Dragging her tired body to the bathroom.
After coming out from inside, she was somewhat more awake. Always afraid of the cold, she just washed her face with cold water.
In the dead of winter, with no heating in the dormitory, her entire face reddened from the cold. An Yin quickly reached out to rub her cheeks, stopping only after feeling a sense of warmth.
With the chilly and bleak weather, she really didn’t want to leave the dormitory, but her stomach was still empty, and she could only set off for the cafeteria.
Before leaving, she deliberately put on her warmest down jacket and tied a ponytail, looking spirited and energized.
Walking through the corridor, stepping briskly downstairs, as soon as she left the female dormitory, her phone vibrated.
An Yin took out her phone while walking and glanced at it; it was an unfamiliar number.
She directly hung up, and the other party called again. An Yin answered with a face full of doubt.
"Hello!" A clear voice rang out.
An Yin felt it sounded a bit familiar.
The other party might have guessed her thoughts and continued, "I’m Gu Qingyun, the person who accidentally injured your eye earlier." When he said this, the male voice was noticeably a bit guilty.
"So, it’s you." A faint smile brushed across An Yin’s face, looking a bit surprised.
"Yeah." Gu Qingyun tentatively asked, "An Yin, are you free now?"
"Ah?" An Yin spoke suspiciously, "Is there something you need?"
"I want to treat you to a meal, to express my apology."
Gu Qingyun spoke carefully, obviously afraid she’d refuse.
"No need to spend money on me; I’m fine already." An Yin instinctively refused since her eye was no longer a problem.
Before An Yin finished her words, a voice full of urgency came from the phone.
"But I really can’t get over it in my heart."
His tone was filled with deep remorse, making An Yin feel very troubled. Soft-hearted, she thought it over several times and finally agreed.
"Alright then."
Seeing her agree, Gu Qingyun was overjoyed, "Then you pick a place."
Thinking of how close their schools were, An Yin made a compromise and said, "Let’s go to South Lane."
That place was close to both of their schools, with plenty of small eateries, and importantly, the expenses there were cost-effective.
"Okay." Gu Qingyun’s words carried a bit of excitement.
"I’m heading out now." As she spoke, An Yin looked at the nearby cafeteria, reluctantly turned, and walked towards the school gate.
"I’m leaving too, see you soon."
Sounds of a rustling came from Gu Qingyun’s side. If listened to carefully, one could tell he was hurriedly getting dressed.
"Mm." An Yin responded.
After hanging up, An Yin slid her phone back into her coat pocket.
Walking out of the campus, she arrived at the zebra crossing, waiting silently for the green light.
During those waiting minutes, many students were standing behind her. As soon as the light turned green, everyone quickened their pace.
Soon, those people surpassed An Yin.
Looking up at the playful antics among them, the laughter spilling from their mouths, An Yin couldn’t help but watch for an extra moment.
She couldn’t help but remember when Jiang Keke hadn’t met Bao Cheng yet; they often spent their time together playing around.
An Yin lowered her gaze, sullenly walking in the direction of South Lane.
South Lane, a commercial street primarily focused on eating, drinking, and entertainment, most of those spending here are university students studying nearby.
Especially on weekends, it’s packed with people.
An Yin walked on the sidewalk, following behind the crowd.
Looking up, just a right turn, and she would be at South Lane.
The distance of fifty meters took her quite a while to cover.
Approaching the corner, she suddenly saw a familiar figure. Across the road, with the green light having only three seconds left, Gu Qingyun was running at a fast pace.
An Yin stared blankly, holding her breath for him.
Luckily, he crossed the road just in the nick of time. Stopping, he was out of breath, peering around searchingly.
An Yin instinctively lowered her head, and when she realized, she found it amusing—why was she hiding?
Just as An Yin was about to look up, an urgent voice sounded above her.
"An Yin, you’re here."
When he spoke, his breath was a bit uneven.
An Yin knew it must be due to his earlier running.
"Mm." An Yin raised her head, seeing his sweat-drenched face; her eyes couldn’t help but linger for a few more seconds. Then she took out a tissue from her pocket, "Wipe your sweat."
Her face was sincere, and that beautiful, vibrant face was full of innocence.
"Thank you." Gu Qingyun didn’t hesitate, readily accepting it.
However, when taking the tissue, his little finger accidentally brushed against her palm, even though it was a light touch; it made Gu Qingyun feel a bit nervous, taking a step back. He wanted to apologize, but seeing her unconcerned expression, the words stuck in his throat.
