Chapter 30: Gotta Admit, These Two Make a Good Couple
Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Gotta Admit, These Two Make a Good Couple
"Ma-ma-ma... marriage?"
Neither Nora Scott nor Pedro Langley had spoken yet when Montague’s eyes widened in shock.
His gaze shifted between the two of them, making two rounds, maintaining a stunned expression, "I didn’t realize you two were married!"
His questioning seemed to solidify the boss’s speculation.
Nora Scott furrowed her brows, unsure of how to explain.
Pedro Langley stood beside her, his expression calm and indifferent, showing no intention of "clarifying" the situation.
Just as the situation was about to develop into a more complex layer, a cheerful voice suddenly came from behind—
"Montague!"
It was the friend Montague had invited.
A male student, Montague’s classmate, with a smiling face that indicated his lively personality.
His appearance finally snapped Montague back to reality, and he gave an awkward smile, quickly introducing each of them.
"This is my roommate, Eduardo. That mechanical table, he insisted on making it with me after seeing the blueprints. But he had something to do this afternoon and couldn’t make it to the exhibition."
"You’re Nora Scott, Senior Scott? Wow, I’m actually meeting you in person!"
Eduardo slapped his thigh, a look of delight appeared on his face, followed by a stream of questions, "Senior Scott also here for hot pot? Did you see the mechanical table, any thoughts on it? It’s rare to meet, I have so many questions for you, should we share a table?"
A few words firmly established his reputation for "being naturally friendly."
These two "juniors" were genuinely enthusiastic about the mechanical table, a topic connected with their expertise, both traditional and innovative; they had plenty of questions they wanted to discuss with Nora Scott. Nora was indifferent to it, nodding in agreement.
However, when she realized Pedro Langley was still standing beside her, she remembered...
This meal was meant as a peace offering apology, plus a celebration for his new home.
"This..."
Nora helplessly gave him a look.
As her thoughts took several turns in her mind, Pedro’s impatience and brooding gaze gradually faded away.
He said, "Let’s just eat together."
Seeing his agreement, Nora quickly felt relieved.
As for the marriage topic... they weren’t that familiar anyway, so the topic could easily be avoided.
*
Keen personally greeted them as regulars walked in. As soon as they were seated, he handed over the menu.
Nora didn’t look at the menu but said, "The usual."
Keen understood, "Still the sauerkraut and white meat pot?"
"Yes." Pedro helped answer, adding, "And a hundred beef skewers."
"Alright, your turn to order."
Keen handed the menu to Eduardo and Montague.
At this restaurant, there’s both hot pot and barbecue, with the sauerkraut white meat pot and beef skewers as the specialties. Eduardo and Montague were regulars, familiar with the process and ordered some side dishes without too much fuss.
Most of the dishes were chosen by Eduardo because Montague’s attention was entirely on Pedro, occasionally sneaking a glance, full of surprise and awe.
The husband of Senior Scott...
Without needing to mention anything, just one look revealed an elegant and handsome man, a refined demeanor of someone from an aristocratic family, albeit a bit cold.
In comparison, he had no chance whatsoever.
With Eduardo, the chatterbox, at the table, the lively atmosphere never ceased. He frequently called "Senior Scott," leading discussions around the mechanical table that never ended, making the table far more lively than any other.
"Here it comes."
Soon, Keen personally brought out the pot.
A special earthen pot, crafted from volcanic rock, sourced from a remote town in Cloud Province.
Inside the pot, charcoal burning, with a circle of hot pot ingredients around, homemade sauerkraut layered at the bottom. In the middle was the tofu layer, from bottom to top consisting of frozen tofu, white tofu, and fried tofu, topped with slices of white meat, finished off with sauerkraut juice.
Once the pot opened, steam rose, and the aroma wafted through the air.
The boiling soup had the right amount of sourness, warming the stomach, perfect for enjoying amid this chilly winter day.
Food lovers’ attention was immediately captured.
"Start with the soup."
Pedro scooped a bowl of soup and handed it to Nora.
"Okay."
Nora naturally accepted it.
Keen watched them with a smile, inwardly sighing that after all these years, this couple remained so affectionate, confident their married life was undoubtedly happy.
Witnessing this scene, Eduardo was surprised. He moved closer to Montague, whispering, "So the flower is taken?"
"Yeah."
"Sigh."
Feeling a sense of lament, Eduardo discreetly glanced at Pedro, nodding, "Honestly, they do match well. You didn’t lose poorly."
Just their looks and demeanor alone left people in the dust.
And... the wealth.
Those clothes and the watch—you couldn’t pull them off without some family backing.
Though the boiling soup was still very hot, Nora held the bowl, taking small sips. Soon enough, on her plate were the wrapped dishes Pedro prepared for her—white meat wrapped in sauerkraut, delicious.
Her favorite way to eat.
A sense of discord rose in her heart; this mode of interaction seemed somewhat inappropriate, yet she couldn’t pinpoint it accurately.
—The relationship was brief; she hadn’t seen Pedro interact with anyone else. Perhaps Pedro was naturally the "caregiving" type?
Habit becomes natural.
Thinking this way, Nora calmly picked up the warm white meat wrapped in sauerkraut, sending it to her mouth.
One word: delicious.
"Senior Scott, did you watch the latest release, ’Fire’?"
While discussing movies with Eduardo, Montague suddenly asked Nora.
On the table, the hot pot stove in the middle was burning red-hot, the surrounding broth boiling, with steam lingering in the center, white mist lingering.
Holding her chopsticks, Nora paused her movement of picking up food, raising her gaze as steam blew into her eyes, her pupils dyed with slight warmth.
She asked, "Henry Chapman’s new movie?"
"Yeah, yeah."
"Not yet."
"Henry rarely films art films. It just released three days ago, and the box office surpassed two billion, with rave reviews, critically acclaimed and popular. We’re planning to watch it tonight."
"Is that so." Nora smiled faintly, leisurely saying, "I’ll check it out someday."
The topic naturally shifted to Henry Chapman.
Debuting at eighteen, he’s been in the industry for ten years, consistently delivering one work per year. Early on, he shot TV dramas, each a masterpiece, spanning youth films to martial arts, espionage, history, business battles, covering various fields.
His roles were diverse, never repetitive, conquering audiences purely with his acting skills.
A true king of the screen.
Four years ago, switching to movies, his first work won him dual titles of Best Actor, amassing honors, stealing the spotlight.
Yet, he didn’t sign with any company. Apart from filming and promotion, he didn’t accept commercial performances, endorsements, or variety shows... Other than acting, he’s barely seen in the entertainment scene.
He’s not pursuing a traffic-driven career and rarely appears in other venues, yet he’s genuinely a traffic star.
Both talent and popularity coexist.
This time, before the art film premiered, countless despicable predictions speculated he’d "stumble," but post-release, the movie relied on word-of-mouth and box-office earnings, delivering a resounding slap right to their faces.
Hearing Eduardo and Montague discuss Henry Chapman, Nora occasionally chimed in a few words, her appreciation clear and unmistakable.
Little did she know, this scene fell into Pedro Langley’s eyes, forming an entirely different picture.
Pedro’s brows slightly furrowed.
He remembered, before Nora was banned, she had collaborated with Henry Chapman.
Judging by her expression, she seemed to have a good impression of Henry Chapman?
