Overnight Hit: Vicious Stepmother and Genius Son -
Chapter 383
Chapter 383: 383
Director Qi’s assistant, perceptive to the situation, handed her tablet to Ye Zhenzhen.
Director Qi said, "This contains several draft scenes from ’Legend of Dusk Clouds.’ Choose any one to try."
Director Fei then goaded, "So if she tries a character, does that mean she secures the role?"
A director who had a good relationship with Director Fei immediately laughed and said, "Director Fei, you seem to have quite the ambition!"
Director Fei’s gaze remained fixed on Director Qi. He had to say what others couldn’t—after all, everyone had had a few drinks. If it worked out, it worked out; if not, they could just laugh it off.
Director Qi, unflustered, replied, "Sure, having ambition is good. But let’s first see if your acting skill can support that ambition. However..."
He changed tack, looking sternly at Ye Zhenzhen, "Think carefully. If you fail, you won’t get another chance."
A confident smile spread across Ye Zhenzhen’s face. "In that case, I’ll try out for the female lead’s part."
The expressions around the dinner table were divided. Apart from Liu Rui and Director Fei—who believed Zhenzhen would definitely succeed—the looks on the others’ faces ranged from slight contempt to disdain.
They thought Director Qi had already extended a helping hand to Ye Zhenzhen; she just needed to follow his lead. But here she was, climbing up the ladder herself, daring to try out for the female lead!
Director Qi nodded, "Alright, shall I give you fifteen minutes to prepare?"
"No need, five minutes will do."
Ye Zhenzhen was already determined by the time she spoke. She had chosen a scene from the second page—a scene that tested the actor’s emotional range.
While Director Fei was advocating for her, she had skimmed through the script. Coupled with what Liu Rui had mentioned about the historical context the day before, she had already played a role in such a setting in her past life.
So to her, this posed virtually no difficulty.
However, no one at the table knew about her past experiences. Hearing her statement, they inwardly thought her attitude was somewhat dismissive.
Qi Feng’s gaze swept coldly over Ye Zhenzhen. From the moment she had picked up the tablet until now, hardly five minutes had passed. In such a short time frame, aside from one or two exceptionally talented actors in the industry who could quickly get into character, nobody else could manage it.
To be bragging so soon, one would hope she doesn’t just end up reading her lines off the tablet like reading from a textbook—that would indeed be laughable.
Director Qi raised his hand slightly, signaling she could start.
Ye Zhenzhen put the tablet down on the table and never picked it up again. She stood up from her spot and walked towards the lounge area of the private room.
By the time she was walking, she had already amassed the right emotion.
Qi Feng was somewhat surprised; he had thought Ye Zhenzhen would hold the tablet and act with the script in hand. Instead, she started off script, which actually interested him.
When she turned her head back, Ye Zhenzhen had already disappeared into the role; her expression and the way she walked completely embodied the character of Dusk Cloud from the script.
This portrayal of Dusk Cloud instantly captured Director Qi’s attention. His pupils contracted slightly, as he waited earnestly for the unfolding scene.
Then Dusk Cloud began to speak. The emotion was rich, her facial expressions extremely fitting. There’s no set standard for perfection in acting—it’s always about being better, not the best.
But as Ye Zhenzhen delivered Dusk Cloud’s lines and her whole period bearing—including her expressions—everyone felt there couldn’t possibly be a better Dusk Cloud.
It was an indescribable quality of excellence. So good was Ye Zhenzhen’s performance that even dressed in modern attire, there was no sense of discordance as she portrayed Dusk Cloud. Her refined acting skills led everyone to overlook her clothing, as their senses followed her expressive face and body movements as well as her full emotions, drawing them into the play...
