Overlord: Welcoming the Birth of the King -
Chapter 9: A World of Hidden Depths! The Adventurer Team [Four Weapons]
Tang Zheng had no intention of foolishly waiting in place. Sitting in the outermost area of the arena, who knew how long it would take for his turn to exit the colossal ancient coliseum. Even so, leaving the massive structure still took about twenty minutes.
The recently concluded duel between Gejiefu and Brian had truly given the spectators an eye-opening experience. Even now, the excited discussions showed no signs of dying down; instead, they grew even more fervent as people streamed out of the arena.
Tang Zheng had thought escaping the crowded arena would bring relief, but upon exiting through the gates, he discovered an even larger crowd gathered outside. Clearly! These were people who couldn't afford arena tickets but were equally eager to learn the outcome. Both Gejiefu and Brian commanded massive followings among the common folk. After all, this was the first time in the history of the Imperial Trial that two commoners had reached the finals without any noble participants - a disgrace in noble eyes but precisely the opposite for commoners.
"Look! It's [Crimson Dew]!" sudden exclamations erupted from the crowd.
In the next moment! The relatively spacious flow of people around Tang Zheng suddenly compressed as everyone automatically cleared a wide path for an approaching group.
Crimson Dew? Tang Zheng raised an eyebrow and looked toward the cleared path where a leading figure came into view. A figure with light golden semi-long hair and a striking red forelock entered his vision first. The man wore a black jacket over a red shirt resembling noble attire, paired with silver-black trousers in a deliberately casual ensemble. His entire demeanor exuded aristocratic grace and ease as he occasionally waved to bystanders, eliciting cheers from female admirers - an undeniably flamboyant display.
Azuth Aindra! The name surfaced in Tang Zheng's mind, bringing a new seriousness to his gaze. The leader of [Crimson Dew], one of only two adamantite-ranked adventurer teams in the Li Yestige Kingdom, also a noble bearing the title of 'Knight'.
Tang Zheng observed the four figures following Azuth Aindra - undoubtedly Crimson Dew's members. One was a middle-aged man in silver armor, expression cold as ice, carrying an enormous greatsword on his back. Another wore light blue mage robes with no visible staff, his features obscured by the voluminous garment, though clearly male. The remaining two were also men - one bearing a longbow that faintly shimmered with gray light, the other shorter with utterly ordinary features and attire that revealed no discernible profession. Compared to the others, he seemed almost invisible. Yet conventional wisdom suggested such individuals were often the most dangerous. Tang Zheng suspected a thief-class profession, though whether these four comprised the entire team remained unclear.
[Crimson Dew] had always been portrayed as a mysterious team in both anime and novels, with only leader Azuth Aindra ever making appearances. Never had he expected to see its members here today.
Among them, Tang Zheng focused most attention on Azuth Aindra himself. While unsure of the others' strength levels, he guessed none had reached the realm of heroes (Level 29+). The true threat lay solely with Azuth Aindra! Paradoxically the team's weakest member yet its absolute core - not due to noble status, but because he possessed a Level 51 [Power Suit]. This artifact artificially elevated his combat capability to humanity's highest echelon."[Power Suits] are definitely beyond this world's human craftsmanship - undoubtedly player relics," Tang Zheng mused silently, eyelids drooping slightly. "Though whether from the Six Great Gods, Eight Greed Kings, or that 13 Heroes leader remains unclear." Only Azuth himself likely knew the truth.
Besides Azuth, the only other known [Power Suit] owner was the Platinum Dragon Lord with his Level 85 version - reportedly more than one set according to light novel mentions. That dragon lord hoarded numerous player relics, as did several other true dragon lords aware of players and YGGDRASIL's existence. Truly, this world's waters ran deep. Had Nazarick not been overwhelmingly powerful, they might have suffered several major setbacks. That 13 Heroes leader - explicitly named Riku the 'player' - had fallen hard. Not only had the Platinum Dragon Lord extracted all intelligence about 'players' and 'YGGDRASIL', but he'd also spread the lie that this hero died young from trauma after accidentally killing comrades, refusing resurrection. Natives might believe this, but transmigrator Tang Zheng knew better. Players refusing resurrection? Preposterous. The Platinum Dragon Lord was clearly a scheming snake.
As [Crimson Dew] passed through the cleared path, several other adventurer teams followed, eliciting fresh waves of excitement. Tang Zheng had hoped to see the other adamantite team [Blue Roses], but no such luck. Though unfamiliar, these teams' reception suggested orichalcum or mithril rankings. Clearly, Gejiefu and Brian's duel had drawn many powerful figures.
"Time to leave. Next steps - leveling up and class composition," Tang Zheng thought, withdrawing his gaze and preparing to depart.
Hmm? As he turned, his peripheral vision caught the last adventurer team - just four members yet strikingly distinctive. Two men and two women! The foremost women immediately commanded attention: one in full plate armor with long black hair, blue eyes, and cold beauty; the other with pink locks in clerical vestments that should have appeared holy, except the lower half split like a qipao to reveal black boots and stocking-clad thighs. Their appearance instantly captured most male gazes present.
This team he recognized. "If memory serves, they're called [Four Weapons]. Almost missed them." Tang Zheng's gaze involuntarily lingered on the pink-haired cleric's unconventional attire, his eyelid twitching slightly. "This world's fashion sense truly baffles me. Though undoubtedly influenced by the Six Great Gods or Eight Greed Kings - at least players made some positive sartorial contributions."
Currently an aspiring mithril-ranked team (not yet qualified), the black-haired woman in full armor had initially escaped his recognition. In the future, her hair would turn white - not naturally, but dyed. Close inspection revealed golden roots beneath the black dye. Indeed, she was naturally blonde! The Li Yestige Kingdom predominantly had golden-haired citizens; she'd adopted black for greater visibility to boost team recognition. Later, she'd switch to white due to the Bone King's intelligence-gathering [Darkness] team. After [Darkness] became adamantite-ranked, [Four Weapons] changed hair color both to avoid association and because 'darkness' became synonymous with the Bone King's squad.
Tang Zheng suspected some favoritism in their eventual mithril promotion, though their ability to contend with Death Knights suggested genuine capability. In any case - whether the pink-haired cleric or the dye-obsessed blonde, neither seemed particularly respectable. As for the two male members... completely unremarkable.
