Overlord: Welcoming the Birth of the King -
Chapter 67: Nervous Rachimon, He Is Not an Adventurer
At the entrance of Carne Village.
The same circle of wooden fences, which barely offered any real defense, remained unchanged since the last time.
Tang Zheng’s return caught the villagers’ attention once again, especially regarding the matter of helping Emmett’s eldest daughter carry weeds.
For the village women, who had little else to occupy themselves, this was a major piece of gossip.
On the path.
Three figures walked deeper into the village.
“This time, I still have to trouble you, Village Chief,” Tang Zheng said politely to the village chief beside him.
“No need to be so formal, sir.”
“The room has long been cleaned, and it’s still the same one you stayed in last time.”
The dark-skinned village chief quickly spoke. Although surprised by Tang Zheng’s return, he showed no impatience and even added a note of respect in his tone. The room had already been cleaned?
Tang Zheng’s footsteps paused ever so slightly at the village chief’s words, then he continued forward.
At the same time, from the corner of his eye, he glanced at a middle-aged man walking beside the village chief.
The man had a bow and arrows strapped to his back; his right hand swung normally with each step, but his left hand, facing away from Tang Zheng, remained pressed at his waist.
Tang Zheng could clearly sense the man’s nervousness, as he occasionally glanced at a small evil spirit dog following him.
Does he recognize the evil spirit dog?
If Tang Zheng remembered correctly, the only villager in Carne Village with a profession was named Rachimon. Judging from the bow on the man’s back, this middle-aged man should be him.
Several thoughts flashed through Tang Zheng’s mind. His tone shifted to one of curiosity as he asked the village chief, “Has anyone else come to the village recently?”
The village chief obviously could not have known Tang Zheng would return, so if he didn’t know yet the room was cleaned, that meant others had been here.
“Yes.”
The village chief nodded. “Several adventurer teams have come recently. They stayed in the village overnight, then left in a hurry.”
“Do you know what they came here for?”
Tang Zheng’s eyes flickered, already forming some guesses.
“Adventurers are big shots, not people like us who can ask questions. Besides, we don’t know anything.” The wrinkles on the village chief’s face lifted into a hearty smile as he waved his hand.
Tang Zheng looked at the village chief unexpectedly.
A smart answer.
Perhaps this was the survival method for ordinary people.
Though it was useless information, it was not hard to speculate.
A remote border village like Carne Village rarely saw outsiders, so the sudden arrival of several adventurer teams likely had something to do with recent activity in the forest.
Back to the same room as last time.
Tang Zheng entered and saw the entire room was spotless, even the cobwebs on the beams above had disappeared.
“Awwooo.”
The small evil spirit was lively, inspecting the surroundings.
“When there are outsiders, don’t bark randomly in the future,” Tang Zheng said calmly, looking at the small evil spirit dog.
“Woo.”
The little evil spirit dog stopped its lively movements, lowered its neck slightly, and drooped its ears.
Most monsters aren’t low in intelligence, and this small evil spirit dog was even smarter than Tang Zheng expected due to their time together.
As long as the commands weren’t complicated, this dog could fully understand.
Tang Zheng reached out into the void and grabbed a goblin corpse, tossing it to the small evil spirit dog.
“Tonight’s dinner.”
Elsewhere.
After bringing Tang Zheng to the house, the village chief and Rachimon walked back along the village’s uneven dirt road.
“Has something happened in the forest recently?” The village chief’s cheerful smile had vanished, replaced by a worried expression.
After a moment of silence and no response,
“What’s wrong today? You’re so quiet,” the village chief asked Rachimon suspiciously.
“It’s the evil spirit dog!” Rachimon’s voice trembled a bit.
“What?” The village chief looked confused, not understanding what Rachimon meant for a moment.
“The monster following that person is an evil spirit dog.” Rachimon raised his head to look at the village chief, his expression pale.
“It’s a terrifying monster even more fearsome than an ogre. In the adventurer difficulty rating, it reaches a terrifying score of 45.”
“That one is obviously a pup. Cunning monsters like evil spirit dogs always guard their young.”
Rachimon took a deep breath and spoke seriously.
“Difficulty?” The village chief still looked confused.
The so-called “difficulty” was a numerical value the Adventurer’s Guild used to rate monster strength. For example, an adult male’s difficulty value is three.
As the village’s hunter, Rachimon, besides gathering herbs and hunting ordinary beasts on the outskirts of the Great Tob Forest,
also transported surplus wheat and other crops to E-Rantel for sale to obtain and purchase basic supplies.
Therefore, he was more knowledgeable about adventurers than most villagers.
“Village Chief, that person is not an adventurer either.”
Rachimon lowered his voice, glancing subtly toward the direction of Tang Zheng’s lodging.
“No matter what rank an adventurer is, they always carry a metal badge made according to their rank in a conspicuous place.”
With pure black hair and such obvious foreign features, plus the small evil spirit dog pup following him, Rachimon had to be nervous.
No matter how he looked at it, this was a dangerous person.
Tap tap~
A light footstep sounded.
Just as Rachimon was about to continue speaking, he shut his mouth and raised his head. Together with the village chief, they looked toward the direction the sound came from.
There,
Anri was carrying a wooden tray, walking toward them.
Seeing this, the village chief’s face broke into a kindly smile. “Where are you headed, Little Anri?”
“Village Chief, Uncle Rachimon.”
Seeing the two ahead, Anri quickly greeted them, then blushed a little on her cheeks.
“My mother asked me to bring some food to that adventurer as thanks for helping carry weeds.”
Rachimon glanced at the tray in Anri’s hands: a steaming bowl of bean soup with visible meat chunks and a plate of cleaned nuts.
“When did that Emmett guy become so generous?” Rachimon half-joked, whistling softly.
“All right. Anri, you go ahead first.”
The village chief waved gently.
Anri respectfully nodded to the two and hurried away.
“Village Chief...”
After Anri left, Rachimon spoke again.
This time the village chief waved his hand to stop Rachimon and said softly, “Relax, Rachimon. This person is visiting our village for the second time.”
Rachimon fell silent, pondering briefly. “Should we go to E-Rantel? I have a feeling something is happening in the forest that we don’t know about.”
The village chief said nothing, instead turning his body to look toward the direction Anri disappeared, silently continuing onward.
