Overlord: Welcoming the Birth of the King -
Chapter 58: "Chain Whirlwind," Bone Chains!
In an instant!
The beast’s instinct made the Hellhound sense the approach of a deadly crisis. The Hellhound pinned to the ground by the iron sword had its chains flash a streak of gray light.
“Chain Whirlwind!”
Clang clang clang!
The chains on the Hellhound suddenly began to move rapidly, cutting through the air with a sound like iron cables. They transformed into iron whips, fiercely lashing toward Tang Zheng.
“Hm?”
Tang Zheng sensed the force of the chain lash coming at him. His eyes twitched slightly, and without hesitation, he quickly leapt backward.
At the end of the chains, a circular iron ring shone with a sharp cold light, slicing just in front of Tang Zheng’s body, emitting a sharp rushing sound.
Boom!
Not far away, a large tree was snapped in half at the waist, crashing to the ground with a thunderous sound.Tang Zheng landed after his backward jump, standing steadily on the ground. He glanced at the broken tree and muttered, “Hiss, such destructive power.”
With his physical defense, if he had been hit just now, he definitely would have been injured.
“So this is the Hellhound’s ability? No wonder adventurers rate it as even more dangerous than an Ogre.”
After his surprise, a faint smile appeared on Tang Zheng’s face as he looked toward the Hellhound that was now climbing up from the ground, panting heavily, its spirit significantly drained.
“But such a skill can only be used once, right?”
Sure enough!
The chains that had just displayed such overwhelming power were now rewrapped around the Hellhound’s body.
Originally writhing like a swimming snake on the Hellhound, the chains now seemed completely deactivated, hanging loosely on its back.
“Chain Whirlwind” is a skill the Hellhound can only use once per day. It is generally a decisive move used either when facing a crisis or when victory is assured.
“If that’s the case, then it’s my turn.”
Bang!
The ground trembled under Tang Zheng’s feet as he charged rapidly toward the weakened Hellhound.
In the span of a single breath, he had already reached the opponent’s front.
His iron sword swung without hesitation, slashing at the Hellhound’s waist.
“Roar!”
Suddenly, a black shadow covered the sky.
Another Hellhound, seeing Tang Zheng, let out a roar and leapt fiercely into the air, rushing straight at Tang Zheng.
“Swift Strike!”
Tang Zheng had already noticed this Hellhound’s move. The iron sword originally aimed at the weakened Hellhound was redirected mid-air, slashing upward.
Clang—
The chains on the Hellhound moved quickly. When the blade struck the Hellhound’s body, the chains formed a defense.
Ping!
Crack!!
The powerful slash deeply cut into the chains on the Hellhound’s abdomen, accompanied by the sound of fractured ribs.
Bang—
The Hellhound leaping from the air was cut down and flung into the distant forest!
If it weren’t for the chains’ protection, this slash would have split the Hellhound in two.
“Roar!”
With this Hellhound blocking him, the weakened Hellhound also snapped out of its daze, immediately opening its bloodthirsty jaws and lunging forward.
The gaping maw was just inches away from Tang Zheng’s eyes.
“Instant Reflection!”
Tang Zheng’s body moved as if time had reversed, swiftly retreating to create distance and dodge the attack. At the same time, he swung his iron sword.
Slicing!
The weakened Hellhound’s abdomen was easily cut open. Blood mixed with entrails gushed out as it twitched and collapsed onto the ground.
The scent of blood filled the air!
“After using its ability, the chains can’t even move normally?”
“This kind of skill might as well not be used.”
Tang Zheng looked at the motionless chains on the weakened Hellhound and shook his head. He flicked his wrist, shaking the blood droplets from the iron sword onto the ground.
‘Experience gained: 369’
“Experience higher than an Ogre. No wonder these monsters dwell deep in the forest,” Tang Zheng thought to himself.
The experience from one Hellhound was equivalent to most of his effort over the past several days.
“Roar!”
Accompanied by the rustling of bushes and branches, the Hellhound Tang Zheng had just sent flying staggered back with unsteady steps.
“Huff~”
“Huff~”
It was panting heavily through its nose, blood dripping continuously from its mouth.
The fierce beastly eyes glanced at the dead Hellhound before locking onto Tang Zheng.
“I thought you had already fled. Seems you two have a close bond.” Tang Zheng’s gaze remained calm as he stared at the other.
“Roar!”
The Hellhound roared and charged fiercely forward on all fours.
A cold gleam flashed through the air.
The three-meter-long Hellhound’s body stiffened as it collapsed to the ground, scattering a circle of fallen leaves.
‘Experience gained: 382’
Tang Zheng glanced at his attribute panel.
‘Experience bar: 9256/9500’
Just over two hundred experience points more and “Genius” would reach level ten.
Tang Zheng felt like he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Having spent a whole month in this forest, the dark and cold environment gradually pressed down on him.
“No wonder he’s called ‘Lord’.”
“So powerful, even Hellhounds aren’t his match.”
“He’s the strongest human I’ve ever seen.”
“Previously, several Ogres that cared for our tribe died in the jaws of Hellhounds.”
“This is a group of truly vile and cunning creatures.”
“...”
With the deaths of the two Hellhounds, Elder Goblin Muguo, who had been trembling in Tang Zheng’s left hand, finally spoke again, both surprised and joyful, speaking with great reverence.
“Shut up.”
Silence returned to the air.
Tang Zheng approached the Hellhound corpses. The most valuable thing on these two Hellhounds was the chains wrapped around their bodies.
The Hellhound bodies themselves might also have some value, but Tang Zheng really did not want to keep tossing monster corpses into his item chest.
He was already a bit overwhelmed by the over two thousand Goblin corpses he had accumulated and had no idea how to handle them later.
The Adventurers Guild collected Goblin ears, but did they accept Goblin corpses?
This thought flashed through Tang Zheng’s mind as he looked at the chains on the Hellhound.
At first glance, both the texture and sound of the metal resembled iron chains, but in reality, they were not. They were bones.
Only black, with a metallic sheen!
Tang Zheng looked toward the direction the chains extended and realized the front end of the chains actually extended from the back of the Hellhound’s neck.
The Hellhound’s fur was black, and so were the chains. In the forest environment, it looked as if the chains were floating in midair, coiling around the Hellhound.
“No wonder it’s called a Hellhound.”
“In my previous life, this would have been an unimaginable mystical creature. These bone chains extending from the neck not only protect the exposed nape but also shield the vulnerable abdomen.”
“They completely compensate for the Hellhound’s weaknesses.”
Then.
Tang Zheng didn’t hold back. He used his iron sword to cut open the back of the Hellhound’s neck. He had expected the connection point to be as hard as the bone chains themselves, but surprisingly it was quite fragile.
With little effort, he removed the bone chains.
