Overlord: Welcoming the Birth of the King -
Chapter 56: Forest Crevice, "Jike Tribe" Fourth Son Agu
Such an ability.
Ogre Lord Woodfruit had never heard of it before, though he knew some humans possessed special powers called "Innate Abilities."
All he knew now was that this not particularly old human before him must be a famous powerhouse in the human world.
Facing Ogre Lord Woodfruit's occasional furtive glances, Tang Zheng paid little attention.
Who would care about a dead man... oh, a dead goblin?
Having seen all his intelligence reports.
There was no way Tang Zheng would let Ogre Lord Woodfruit leave alive.
The only reason the other was still breathing was to provide Tang Zheng with locations of goblin settlements in the forest's outer regions.
The next day.
Tang Zheng carried Ogre Lord Woodfruit as he continued his leveling mission.However.
Most goblins in this area had already been cleared out, and unlike in games, goblins weren't NPC monsters that stayed in fixed locations.
After half a month.
Even the dim-witted goblins would have realized something was systematically slaughtering them in the forest.
Thus, after an hour's effort.
Tang Zheng only gained about 200 experience points, a significant drop from his previous efficiency.
"Are you sure there are no other goblin settlements nearby?"
Tang Zheng tossed Ogre Lord Woodfruit before him, gazing coldly at the creature.
"None... Great Human."
"All... all goblin tribes here have been exterminated by you, Great Human."
Ogre Lord Woodfruit pressed both hands against the ground, head bowed as it spoke tremulously, then cautiously added:
"For more goblins, we must go deeper into the forest."
Thud.
Tang Zheng twisted his wrist, planting his iron sword in the soft earth, fingers tapping the hilt as he pondered.
The forest depths were out of the question!
Dealing with ogres was manageable, but fighting ogre lords stronger than ogres would be extremely troublesome.
His strongest attack method was physical strikes, and against ogre lords with powerful regeneration, physical damage would be severely limited!
In anime, ogre lords' recovery speed was already absurdly fast. In the novel's library edition, the Bone King even blew off half of Ogre Lord Gu's head with one strike.
Yet moments later, Ogre Lord Gu's head had completely regenerated.
According to the Bone King, even if Ogre Lord Gu's body was pulverized into paste, given time, it could fully recover!
This terrifying regenerative ability made them natural counters to warrior-type classes!
Considering ogre lords' powerful recovery.
Tang Zheng decided it best not to provoke those creatures.
Moreover, Eastern Giant Gu was above level 30 - absolutely beyond his current capabilities.
"Could the commotion I've caused in the outer regions have already drawn the ogre lords' attention?" This thought flashed through Tang Zheng's mind, his expression turning grave.
"Let's go."
Grabbing Ogre Lord Woodfruit, Tang Zheng continued hunting goblins and monsters in the forest.
He had no intention of approaching the deep forest - if anything went wrong, the outer regions allowed for quick escape.
His originally prepared month's worth of supplies were nearly exhausted.
But the forest teemed with game - his item box alone stored three wild boars, eliminating food concerns.
Even his dwindling water supply had been replenished at the small river.
Only about 3,000 experience points remained until his genius class reached level 10. Though his experience gain had slowed, it would only take an extra day or two at most.
Meanwhile.
Eastern region of Great Tob Forest, Forest Crevice.
The so-called "Forest Crevice" didn't refer to canyon-like terrain, but areas within the lush jungle left uncovered by forest growth.
For instance, large swathes of dead trees from unknown causes, or fire-scorched remnants could all be termed "forest crevices."
This particular area.
Was a hill extending from the Angelicia Mountains, merging with the forest.
Normally.
Such terrain wouldn't hinder tree growth, yet currently most of this region lay barren.
The few remaining trees showed severe damage - some hacked down and scattered haphazardly.
Others uprooted completely like discarded trash, some smashed into splintered wreckage.
In short, not a single intact tree remained in this area.
At the vegetation-covered base of the hill stood an conspicuously massive cave entrance, easily four to five zhang tall.
This cave served as the ogre lords' dwelling.
Ogre lords shared similar living habits with ogres, having few environmental requirements, though they preferred dark, damp caves.
For creatures with night vision like ogre lords, pitch-black caverns posed no obstacle.
No ogre lords or even ogres guarded the cave entrance - no monsters dared invade this territory anyway.
Yet presently.
Outside the cave, two large goblins about 1.5 meters tall with bluish-green skin waited anxiously, frequently glancing fearfully toward the cavern depths.
After some time.
A goblin barely the height of a human child emerged dejectedly from the cave.
Its relatively pale complexion and drooping pointed ears identified it as a young, unfully grown large goblin.
The two large goblins guarding the entrance showed stunned excitement on their fearful faces, rushing forward.
"Agu, are... are you alright?"
One large goblin stuttered with concern.
They belonged to the Jike Tribe - this Agu was the tribal chief's fourth son.
"That was too dangerous."
"The ogre lords could have eaten you for that," the other large goblin added worriedly.
Agu looked up, forcing an ugly, dispirited smile at his tribesmen.
The two seemingly not-too-stupid large goblins understood from Agu's expression, yet didn't share his dejection.
As if this outcome was expected.
"The ogre lords don't care about such matters - they only see us as food," one whispered, casting a fearful glance into the cavern's depths as he shrank back.
