Overlord: Welcoming the Birth of the King
Chapter 47: Saw You! Goblin Subspecies—Great Goblin!

Having witnessed two powerful ogres easily slain by Tang Zheng, and now seeing the human steadily approaching,

especially with the twin swords in his hands each swing sending terrifying gusts of wind that made its cheek throb with pain.

Escape—

The cowardly nature of goblins was deeply ingrained in their genes. Facing the threat of death,

the first thought that rose in this goblin’s mind was to flee.

However!

If this goblin just lay still on the ground, Tang Zheng’s widespread destruction around might not have struck it directly, and it might have remained undiscovered.

But now, as this goblin fled, the camouflage magic it cast began to change, as if a layer of actively color-changing barrier suddenly appeared in this space.

Exceptionally conspicuous!

“I see you,”

Tang Zheng paused his dual-sword motion, turned to look at the color-changing moving object, and a brilliant smile appeared on his face.

Huh?

Tang Zheng suddenly noticed the opponent’s speed was fast.

Even in this complex forest environment, the goblin ran as if on flat ground, with no plants or roots impeding it at all.

What kind of ability was this?

Tang Zheng was slightly surprised, but made no hesitation with his hands. He reversed his grip on the sword’s hilt, then, like throwing a spear, hurled the iron sword forward.

Whoosh!

The tremendous force caused the iron sword to whistle sharply through the air.

In an instant, it struck that color-changing creature!

“Ah!!”

A miserable scream echoed through the forest, then the creature collapsed to the ground, continuously wailing in pain.

Only then did Tang Zheng leisurely walk over.

Because it had been attacked, the camouflage magic had already dissipated.

The goblin’s form was completely exposed to Tang Zheng’s sight, making him pause in surprise.

Unlike the typical goblin with deep green skin all over,

this goblin’s skin was clearly much lighter in color. Two sharp teeth protruded from its lower jaw, and most noticeably, its size!

The normal goblin’s size, even when fully grown, was about the same as a human child, but this goblin was nearly as big as a dwarf.

“I’m going to die!”

“It hurts so much, I’m going to die!”

The goblin lay on the ground with the iron sword stuck in its back, the immense pain causing it to scream in agony repeatedly.

If Tang Zheng had only judged by appearance, he might not have been certain, but hearing it speak now confirmed that his earlier guess was wrong.

“I thought it was a mutated goblin,” Tang Zheng said coldly as he looked at the wailing great goblin on the ground:

“So it’s just a goblin subspecies, a great goblin.”

Great goblin.

A subspecies within goblins, both physically and intellectually far superior to common goblins, approaching human-level intelligence.

However!

Compared to goblins’ terrifying reproductive ability, great goblins’ reproduction was not strong. Because great goblins could mate with ordinary goblins,

they often lived together in goblin colonies. Due to their superior physique and intellect, great goblins held higher status.

Tang Zheng stepped forward, placing his foot on the screaming great goblin’s head, silencing it abruptly, then reached out and pulled the iron sword from its back.

Pfft!

A spray of green blood splattered out!

“Ah!!”

The great goblin, frightened, shut its mouth but screamed again in pain, its body twitching uncontrollably, weakly begging,

“Human, don’t kill me…”

“If I die, the ogre lords won’t spare you—ah!!”

Bang!

Hearing the words “ogre lord,” Tang Zheng’s eyes narrowed, and he stepped down hard again, pressing the goblin’s head into the muddy ground covered with broken branches and rotten leaves.

“Annoying.”

Tang Zheng said impatiently, a knowing expression appearing on his face.

So that’s it.

If he remembered correctly, a group of great goblins lived in the ogre territory, seemingly belonging to a great goblin tribe called the “Jike Tribe.”

This great goblin tribe even appeared in an anime.

Just like the relationship between common goblins and ogres!

The relationship between great goblins and ogres was similar: because great goblins possessed intelligence, ogres ruled over them.

Of course, to ogres, great goblins were also a backup food source!

After the Bone King killed the “Eastern Giant” ogre lord Gu, the “Jike Tribe” was freed and joined Carne Village.

They were thus brought under the control of the Nazarick Tomb, considered one of the luckier races in this otherworld.

However, they should have been living deep inside the forest area ruled by the “Eastern Giant” ogre lord Gu, so why had they come to the outskirts?

Tang Zheng was a bit puzzled.

But he understood how this troublesome guy had caused him problems recently.

Great goblins could be regarded as nobles among ordinary goblins, and commanding ordinary goblins was no problem.

As for ogres?

Because of their race characteristics, ogres preferred to protect and obey great goblins rather than ordinary goblins.

Hmm?

Tang Zheng moved his foot away and looked at the great goblin beneath his foot. Its body twitched violently as if it could die at any moment, its eyes twitching.

It really was fragile.

But far stronger than ordinary goblins.

The sword he had thrown earlier, although he had held back some force, would probably have pierced and killed a normal goblin with one strike.

This great goblin was only severely injured but still alive, meaning its constitution was much stronger than ordinary goblins.

A glint of sharpness flashed in Tang Zheng’s eyes as he raised his hand toward the wound on the great goblin’s back: “Minor Healing.”

Not long ago, he had planned to kill this great goblin, but just then he suddenly thought of another use for it.

A soft white light appeared, descending onto the bloodied and mangled wound!

The wound that had been bleeding profusely immediately stopped bleeding, and the injury began to heal rapidly.

A low-level healing spell obviously couldn’t completely cure such a severe wound, but it was enough to keep this great goblin alive.

The great goblin, which had been twitching as if it was about to die, stopped shaking, its pupils showing a dazed, survivor’s expression.

Its green head, covered with mud and rotten leaves, lifted from the ground, and its gaze shifted upward, meeting the cold, indifferent human standing before it.

“Human—”

“As long as you let me go, the ogre lords definitely won’t bother you.”

The great goblin trembled, quickly getting up from the ground, curling its body as it spoke while retreating backward, stretching its neck, and pretending to be calm.
