Overlord: Welcoming the Birth of the King -
Chapter 11: Deduction of the Special Profession [Valkyrie]!
[Asura], [Valkyrie], [Harbinger of Calamity].
Among these three special professions.
Tang Zheng initially set his sights on [Harbinger of Calamity].
Mare was of the Dark Elf race, a human subspecies, and thus had no racial profession, entirely constructed from level 100 professions.
This also meant this special profession had no racial prerequisites!
Tang Zheng had gathered quite a bit of information about Mare's professions, and with the error tolerance provided by his [Genius] profession, wasting one or two intermediate professions might allow him to forcibly deduce the [Harbinger of Calamity] special profession.
As for the other two.
[Asura] was the special profession mastered by Cocytus.
Tang Zheng had specifically researched these special professions. Based on the limited information from Cocytus's attribute sheet, the [Asura] profession didn't seem to have any obvious connection with his professional structure.
He suspected this special profession might have been obtained through some special item or artifact. As for [Valkyrie].
In the anime and light novels, there were currently two people who possessed this profession: Shalltear and Deathless Death.
Both were female.
Tang Zheng couldn't help but speculate this was a special profession only obtainable by women.
With this information clear.
Tang Zheng could only focus on [Harbinger of Calamity]. But now, with the appearance of [Priestess], he might have obtained a "female character buff."
Therefore!
It was possible he could take up the [Valkyrie] special profession.
"Shalltear's [Valkyrie] has a much clearer professional structure than Mare's [Harbinger of Calamity]."
Tang Zheng took a deep breath, recalling information about Shalltear in his mind while lifting a finger to sketch on the ground.
As one of the two characters who appeared most frequently in the anime and light novels besides the Bone King, the information revealed about her was naturally the most abundant.
Shalltear's level structure was:
20Lv in Racial Levels + 80Lv in Profession Levels = 100Lv Total Level.
The professions revealed on her attribute sheet were:
Valkyrie/Lancer 5Lv, Cursed Knight 5Lv, Priest 10Lv.
In the light novels, besides these three professions, two others were mentioned: Blood Drinker and Cursed Mage.
Tang Zheng was certain these two were high-tier professions.
He was so certain.
Because [Blood Drinker] possessed a unique skill called "Blood Pool," which was shown in Shalltear's battle with the Bone King.
As for Cursed Mage, the novels mentioned this profession had negative effects, causing Shalltear to go berserk when touching blood.
In the anime, when Shalltear first met Climb and attacked those humans, she suddenly went berserk because of this profession.
Though the anime didn't give any special hints.
In the "Overlord" game, professions with negative effects were all relatively powerful high-tier professions, using the negative effects as a balancing mechanism.
So!
Valkyrie/Lancer 5Lv
Cursed Knight 5Lv
Priest 10Lv
Blood Drinker 5Lv
Cursed Mage 5Lv
These were all the professions Tang Zheng knew Shalltear possessed, totaling 25 levels, leaving 55 levels unaccounted for.
The information still seemed insufficient for clear deduction!
But!
"I'm a science student after all." Tang Zheng grinned, entering an excited state as if returning to his past life's puzzle-solving mindset.
He quickly circled two professions written on the ground!
First setting aside the special profession [Valkyrie], [Priest] was a basic profession that didn't require much attention.
Next.
Tang Zheng didn't know much about [Blood Drinker], so he could set that aside too.
That left the two high-tier professions, which should each have independent prerequisite profession structures!
Using mathematical problem-solving logic, he could force "known" answers by including "unknowns" in the calculation!
Basic Warrior Profession (Unknown) 15Lv → Intermediate Warrior Profession (Unknown) 10Lv → Cursed Knight 5Lv = 30Lv
Basic Caster Profession (Unknown) 15Lv → Intermediate Caster Profession (Unknown) 10Lv → Cursed Mage 5Lv = 30Lv
So total 60Lv + Valkyrie/Lancer 5Lv + Blood Drinker 5Lv + Priest 10Lv = 80Lv.
Exactly 80 profession levels!
Shalltear's information suddenly became completely clear!
[Blood Drinker] was a high-tier racial profession unique to the Vampire race!
Among these professions, the only slightly conspicuous one was the basic profession [Priest].
The other person who possessed [Valkyrie] was the Theocracy's Deathless Death!
Among currently known powerful characters, Deathless Death was the only one with a completely clear profession structure:
Warrior: 10Lv
Berserker: 10Lv
High Warrior: 10Lv
Low Valkyrie/All-Rounder: 5Lv
Weapon Master: 7Lv
Thief: 1Lv
Assassin: 5Lv
Executioner: 10Lv
Priest: 10Lv
High Priest: 10Lv
Heretic Inquisitor: 10Lv
Eleven professions totaling 88 levels.
Judging purely by level, Deathless Death reached first-tier standards in the new world, but her profession structure was abnormally chaotic.
The three major profession series of Warrior, Thief, and Faith-based Magic Caster resulted in Deathless Death's actual combat strength being far below what her level would suggest.
The [Low Valkyrie] special profession Deathless Death possessed could be considered an inferior version of the true Valkyrie.
This happened because Deathless Death didn't meet the true prerequisites for [Valkyrie], resulting in the new world's unique incomplete phenomenon.
For example.
High-tier professions like [Ninja] that normally required level 60+ could be obtained in the new world simply by learning the skills first.
But special professions were different - they had extremely strict prerequisites!
Tang Zheng speculated Deathless Death must have used her innate talent to indirectly obtain this profession, but due to the strict prerequisites, she could only get an inferior version.
The only profession both Shalltear and Deathless Death shared was [Priest].
It made sense for Deathless Death, as the Theocracy's trump card, to have the Priest profession, but Shalltear was an undead!
A vampire of the undead race having a holy-system [Priest] profession was completely incongruous, and she hadn't even maxed it out.
The only possible reason for this—
Was to fulfill certain conditions!
Tang Zheng's eyes gleamed with excitement as he pressed his palm heavily against the ground, "Got you, [Valkyrie]!"
The game "YGGDRASIL" was actually based on Norse mythology.
Originally, the concept of "Valkyrie" didn't exist in early mythology - they were called "Valkyrja," meaning corpse eaters, symbols of evil.
Later they evolved into "choosers of the slain," becoming sacred figures associated with Valhalla.
Setting aside this background!
The likely conditions for [Valkyrie] were: Female, basic profession [Priest], high-tier profession [Cursed Knight]!
The reason it was Cursed Knight rather than Cursed Mage was because [Valkyrie] was a warrior-specialized profession, not caster-specialized.
"Whew~"
Tang Zheng brushed dust off his hands, exhaled deeply, and wiped away the seemingly random Chinese characters on the ground with his foot.
Though no one in this world would recognize Chinese characters, it never hurt to be careful!
"According to game settings, obtaining the high-tier profession [Cursed Knight] requires reaching level 60+ and meeting prerequisite profession structures."
"But in this new world's system, high-tier professions can be obtained directly by learning their skills first."
Tang Zheng pushed himself up from his knees, brushed dust off his pants, and murmured with a smile:
"If memory serves, there's someone in the [Bahāruth Empire] who has the Cursed Knight profession."
Though he wasn't 100% certain about the conditions for this "special profession," he at least had something to try.
Tang Zheng felt slightly reassured.
"That person in the [Bahāruth Empire] won't disappear."
"So next, I need to level up first, then head to the [Bahāruth Empire] to obtain the Cursed Knight high-tier profession."
With clear goals in mind, Tang Zheng didn't hesitate further and headed straight for the Adventurer's Guild.
