Chapter 442 - 442 Dismount Show of Power
Chapter 442: Dismount Show of Power Chapter 442: Dismount Show of Power It wasn’t until a week later that Victoria Garcia went with Arnold Johnson to the Johnson Old Mansion.
That day, snowflakes still drifted down in the Metropolis.
Arnold drove, and Victoria sat in the passenger seat, gazing at the snowflakes outside the window, lost in thought.
The car began to enter the very center of Metropolis, where the Johnson Old Mansion was located, along with the homes of many other prominent families.
The location of the Johnson Old Mansion was excellent, and its exterior didn’t appear overly extravagant. There was a black carved door, with a three-story building inside, a front lawn, and a fountain. At this moment, the lawn was covered with snow, but the fountain was still on, creating a winter love song with the falling snowflakes—an enchanting scene.
Arnold once mentioned that from the rooms on the second and third floors, one could see Metropolis’s Central Avenue and the National Leadership Office Centre through the windows.
In Metropolis, such a location could be described with the phrase “every inch of land is worth its weight in gold”—but even that appeared to be an understatement, as not just anyone could dare to buy and live in a house here.
This was perhaps the so-called ‘circle,’ the topmost circle.
Victoria Garcia never imagined that she would one day be able to enter such a circle. Of course, for her, what circle she joined didn’t matter; what mattered were the people by her side.
After going through so much, she had become unhesitant to follow the man in front of her, even if the future held unknown challenges and hardships. As long as his heart didn’t change, she would fear nothing.
Arnold held her hand as they approached the inner gate of the Johnson home.
“Don’t be nervous; I’ll be with you through it all,” Arnold said, squeezing her hand.
Victoria smiled sweetly, “Don’t worry, I’m not nervous. I’m here with a clear conscience. It’s not like they can swallow me whole.”
“Of course they wouldn’t dare, but I’m worried you’ll be wronged,” Arnold couldn’t bear the thought of her suffering even a bit, hence the concern.
“I’m more worried about them being wronged in the end,” Victoria laughingly said without reservation.
She wondered what those women would think of Arnold’s “New Darling.” Would they feel embittered after all these years? Sometimes, their bitterness wasn’t directly caused by her, but instead merely from her presence, which made them feel a sense of humiliation or even threat.
Just as Arnold and Victoria walked into the hall, a servant hurried over and said to Arnold, “Second Young Master, Grand Lady Johnson instructed that when you returned, you should first go to the ancestral home to see Grand Master Johnson and Young Master Johnson. As for Miss Garcia, Grand Lady Johnson says she’ll take good care of her.”
When Victoria heard this arrangement, she knew that Grand Lady Johnson intended to show her who was boss.
Arnold, of course, was just as aware of this as she was.
“You go ahead, I’ll come and see them later,” Arnold flatly refused.
However, the servant did not leave but continue to persuade, “Second Young Master, this is Grand Lady Johnson’s order. It’s difficult for us too. Please be accommodating.”
This was said less to Arnold and more to Victoria.
Of course, Victoria understood that today’s visit would not let her off easily.
“Let’s follow Grand Lady Johnson’s wishes. You go ahead, and I’ll wait for you here,” Victoria said calmly.
But Arnold insisted, “There’s no need. She knows full well what I hate most, yet she insists on doing it.”
Judging from Arnold’s tone and attitude, his relationship with his mother was truly poor. Victoria didn’t know what had happened between them and never asked because Arnold didn’t bring it up. She figured the time simply hadn’t come yet.
