Chapter 329 - 329 Why 7
Chapter 329: Why 7 Chapter 329: Why 7 Clara Brown and Mia Garcia returned to their apartment, both looking as lifeless as old trees.
Finally, it was Mia who broke the silence. “Mom, what are we going to do next?” she asked.
After the dramatic turn of events that day, they had no choice but to accept the reality, whether they liked it or not.
“How much money do you have left?” Clara asked.
Mia had a card, but she was a big spender, and Terry Garcia hadn’t deposited money into it for a long time. She primarily used her credit cards and was unsure about the remaining balance on this one.
She quickly checked her phone and found that the balance was 17,508 yuan.
After rummaging around the house for any possible cash, she managed to scrape together less than 2,000 yuan.
“Mom, how about you? How much money do you have left?” Mia asked.
Clara went through her handbag and found a few pieces of jewelry and 5,000 yuan in cash. She too didn’t keep a lot of money in her own account, mostly relying on her joint credit card with Terry.
“I have a card that should still have several hundred thousand yuan in it, unless it’s been frozen.”
Mia quickly logged into online banking to check. The card had not been frozen and the balance was over 850,000 yuan, which gave Mia a pleasant surprise.
Thinking back, she realized she used to take even a million yuan for granted.
“Mom, these pieces of jewelry look expensive. How much do you think we could get for them?” Mia asked with her eyes fixed on the jewelry.
Among the pieces, a sapphire necklace and a red diamond ring were valuable; the rest weren’t worth much.
Clara pointed out those two pieces. “This necklace was given to me by your grandfather; we could probably sell it for over a hundred thousand yuan. The ring was from your grandmother and might be worth fifty thousand.”
Despite what her own parents may or may not have done, there was no denying that Clara’s parents genuinely loved her; they couldn’t help but give her their best when she first moved back in with them.
“What about you? Your grandmother also gave you some good things, didn’t she?” Clara asked.
“I only kept some everyday jewelry here. All the precious pieces are at home, confiscated by those people,” said Mia.
“At least we three won’t starve for now, but we need to plan our spending.” Clara couldn’t help but worry.
Mia felt the same way. Previously, she’d thought nothing of spending tens of thousands on a whim. But for their future life, even a thousand yuan purchase would require careful consideration.
Thinking about all this gave Mia a headache and pained her heart. She wondered how she could have such bad luck.
As she was thinking this, her phone suddenly rang. It was a text message.
She was too listless to look at it initially, but a glance at her screen showed a string of numbers that made her pick up her phone and read the text message properly. It was a reminder message from her bank, notifying her that her credit card payment had failed.
The credit card bill was as high as 1.2 million yuan.
Upon seeing this number, she was dumbstruck. Suddenly, she realized that Terry’s primary card had been frozen, so naturally, the payments for his secondary card couldn’t be processed.
This meant that she had to pay the 1.2 million yuan bill herself!
Seeing Mia standing frozen in shock, Clara couldn’t help but ask, “Mia, what’s the matter?”
Mia remained motionless, utterly shocked.
Clara snatched her phone and took a look. Upon seeing the amount, her vision blurred, and she fainted.
