Overflowing Hidden Feelings: This CEO Is Hard to Please! -
Chapter 278 - 278 Birthday Banquet 3
Chapter 278: Birthday Banquet 3 Chapter 278: Birthday Banquet 3 Upon hearing her words, not a few people responded with unfriendly laughter.
The gazes directed at Victoria Garcia became even more scrutinizing.
Not only were the women whispering among themselves, but the men were, too.
It was the first time Arnold Johnson had appeared with a female companion.
They didn’t care whether it was his wife or lover; they wanted to please whoever was Arnold’s favorite.
However, Arnold did a great job at protecting Victoria, constantly staying by her side. Victoria just needed to maintain a polite smile every time someone greeted her.
Sometime later, Arnold took her to Elder Lee’s room where the event’s important guest was lodged.
There were only three people present when Arnold saw Elder Lee: Arnold himself, Elder Lee, and Victoria.
Upon seeing Victoria, Elder Lee showed brief surprise before laughing and saying, “It’s my first time seeing Arnold bring a girl over. I can see you are a good girl and also a fortunate one.”
“Thank you, Elder Lee,” replied Victoria, replying with a gentle smile.
Elder Lee laughed and further commented, “Ignore all those absurd rumors. Let them pass and don’t take them to heart. Remember to cherish each other.”
Victoria did not expect Elder Lee to give such advice.
Was he indirectly telling her that Madam Johnson was fictitious? Or that Arnold’s cold-hearted brutality wasn’t real? Victoria was at a loss for an appropriate response.
Before Victoria could respond, Elder Lee took the initiative to say, “Please accept this small gift as a token of our meeting. If you don’t like wearing it, just keep it.”
Out of nowhere, suddenly a small gift box appeared in Elder Lee’s hand. With laughter, he said, “I didn’t expect to give this away. It’s great, actually. This is the highlight of my day.”
“Thank you, Arnold!”
Elder Lee’s happiness was evident; his smile was both warm and gentle.
Arnold stood with a pleased smile, watching Victoria with joy as she accepted the box.
“Open it and have a look!” Elder Lee laughed as he urged Victoria.
Being a gracious guest, Victoria opened the small box to find a jade bracelet inside. Although she didn’t know much about jade, judging from its color and texture, it seemed pretty expensive.
Feeling the heat in her hand from holding such a costly item, she wasn’t sure if she should return it. Her gaze landed on Arnold.
Arnold whispered softly, “It’s a gift from Elder Lee, so please keep it. He has many valuable items like this. Don’t feel burdened.”
“Hey, you rascal!” Elder Lee joked, “You’ve picked up the habit of hoarding valuables from your father.”
“Elder Lee, it’s only because you shelter me that I dare to,” Arnold humbly responded.
Victoria thought she had heard wrong. At this moment, Arnold seemed like a benefitted child acting endearing to his grandfather.
Yes, that’s the impression.
Arnold seemingly treats Elder Lee as a grandfather and the way Elder Lee treats Arnold is even more evident: Arnold is his favorite grandson.
Even though they didn’t share any blood relation, their devotion to each other was more solid than most grandparent-grandchildren relationships.
Victoria was stunned once again.
It seems that the ties between the Johnson and Lee families are much deeper than she thought.
As Victoria was processing this, a sudden change of events left her utterly astonished yet again.
Not long after she and Arnold left Elder Lee’s room, Elder Lee also made his appearance, helped by his kin…
