Chapter 203 - 203 Behind the Truth
Chapter 203: Behind the Truth Chapter 203: Behind the Truth Victoria Garcia continued to go to work as usual at the Group’s office. On the surface, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
On the fourth day, Alan called her.
“Miss Garcia, I’ve found the man in the photo you showed me.”
“Where?” Victoria’s hand, clutching the phone, inevitably tightened a little more.
A voice came from Alan’s end, “I’ve moved him to a safe place. You can come see him at any time.”
“Good, I’ll go right now.” Victoria’s voice contained a sense of urgency.
Something had happened, and this man must be able to supply an answer.
Victoria struggled to keep control of her emotions as her mind raced during the journey. Over the past three days, she had been contemplating whether her mother could really do such a thing? Was she coerced, did she do it willingly, or was there a reason?
No matter which possibility, she had considered what she would do next. However, Victoria firmly held one belief. Her mother Josephine Garcia couldn’t possibly do such a thing. There must be a reason, and she was determined to uncover the intricacies of the incident.
In Victoria’s memory, her mother’s life primarily revolved around Terry Garcia and their four children. Her mother had so few friends, it was pitiful. Even Clara Brown, whom she treated as her best friend and sister, had betrayed her…
If her mother had any connection with this man, she should have noticed.
Finally, after turning a couple of corners, the car drove into an alley. Victoria parked at the mouth of the alley and saw Alan waiting for her as soon as she opened the car door.
Seeing her get out of the car, Alan immediately came forward and greeted her respectfully, “Miss Garcia.”
Victoria cut to the chase, “Take me to him.”
“Alright, let’s go.” Alan spoke as they walked, “That man is named Jonathan Carter, forty-nine years old. He’s single and has been getting by scamming and cadging meals. He’s also often seen hanging around card tables.”
He sounded like a societal parasite.
“About twelve years ago, he lived lavishly for a while. But he’s a gambler, and that money quickly ran out. I suspect there is a reason behind it.”
Hearing this, Victoria could infer some of it. It was likely that someone had bribed him. Whether it was hush money or something else, asking would reveal the answer.
Soon, the two of them arrived at the doorstep.
Before entering, Alan took the opportunity to remind her, “Miss Garcia, this man is quite brazen. To prevent him from attempting anything against you, I’ve restrained his hands and feet. If he acts improperly in any way, just let me know. I guarantee that he will behave himself and confess anything we want.”
“Okay!”
Alan opened the door and then stood guard. Unless Victoria called him, he would not intrude. Such private matters, if he could avoid hearing, he would certainly avoid.
Victoria was impressed by such a display from Alan and couldn’t help but admire Arnold Johnson – the kind of people a person nurtures reflects the individual themselves.
Suppressing her longing for Arnold Johnson, she stepped into the room. The room was a bit dim, and the first thing she saw was a dark figure curled up in the corner. On closer inspection, she realized that the object in the corner was a person.
No doubt, this man was Jonathan Carter. Looking at such a scruffy man who had involved himself with her mother… to think of this, Victoria felt a surge of hatred welling up inside her.
