Chapter 299: Chapter 299 Pretending to be Sick
“Xiaoyu, let’s go inside. It’s terribly cold out here and you’ve just been scared. Wouldn’t it be better to let you rest for a moment?” Mrs. Liu said coquettishly, as she pushed open the door of the chicken farm and walked in without waiting for a reply.
Wu Xiaoyu saw her barging in and quickly stepped forward to stop her. Mrs. Liu heard his anxious footsteps and turned around just in time to crash into Wu Xiaoyu.
“Oh!” Mrs. Liu exclaimed as she bumped into Wu Xiaoyu, pretending to lose her balance, and fell to the ground.
Wu Xiaoyu sensed something was wrong. His mind went blank momentarily as he stood there in a daze after the collision.
Seeing his stunned expression, Mrs. Liu felt even more convinced that today’s matter was likely as she suspected. She continued coquettishly, “What are you doing? Did you bump into me on purpose? You’ve almost broken my hip!”
Wu Xiaoyu realized the person in front of him was not only shameless but also in cahoots with Niu Mansheng. Quickly shaking his head to clear his mind, he came back to his senses.
“Mrs. Liu, can you watch your language? You obviously fell down yourself, how can you say I broke your hip? Stop slandering me!” Wu Xiaoyu feared her words might be deceitful and hastily explained.
Faced with Wu Xiaoyu’s sudden outburst, Mrs. Liu was a bit taken aback. What was going on? Did she just utter something provocative? Was it necessary to react this way?
“Alright… alright… I was wrong, okay?” Fearing she might anger Wu Xiaoyu, Mrs. Liu quickly got up and patted the dirt off her body.
The ‘pa’ ‘pa’ sound echoed clearly and crisply in the deserted mountains, making Wu Xiaoyu feel a bit embarrassed.
Clearing his throat, Wu Xiaoyu scolded, “Stop pretending! What’s your real purpose of coming up the mountain in the dark? Speak up!”
Mrs. Liu hesitated before weakly defending herself, “What purpose could I have? I saw you alone on the mountain and felt you might be lonely, so I came to keep you company!”
Wu Xiaoyu, having gone through so much recently and met so many people, wasn’t about to believe this lie meant for a three-year-old.
However, if she didn’t tell the truth about this visit, it would continue to trouble Wu Xiaoyu, as defending against hidden attacks is difficult. Who knew if this was another scheme orchestrated by Niu Mansheng?
“Alright! Didn’t you say you wanted to drink water? Let’s go in!” Wu Xiaoyu pondered for a moment, feeling it would be better to force the issue out in the open. Otherwise, she would remain a hidden danger.
Mrs. Liu hesitated when she saw his sudden change of mind. How could he change so quickly? Was he really unable to hold it in any longer?
Thinking of these dirty, sordid things, Mrs. Liu hurried into the straw hut excitedly.
Once Wu Xiaoyu followed her inside, Mrs. Liu suddenly collapsed on the bed, gazing at him seductively and said, out of breath:
“Xia… Xiaoyu, come here quickly. Why is my heart beating so fast? Could it be that the wolf earlier scared me into having heart disease?”
Wu Xiaoyu took a few steps forward, glanced at her playfully, turned on the recording function on his phone, placed it on the table nearby, and smiled:
“Mrs. Liu, aren’t you trying to frame me for sexual harassment? See, I’m recording this!”
Mrs. Liu glanced at the phone on the table and realized with a sudden clarity that Wu Xiaoyu was avoiding her because he feared she was setting up a badger game.
“Xiaoyu, you’ve misunderstood me! I didn’t mean that at all. Truly, my heart is pounding heavily. Feel it if you don’t believe me!” As she spoke, Mrs. Liu grabbed Wu Xiaoyu’s hand and placed it on her chest.
Startled by her sudden move, Wu Xiaoyu reflexively clenched his right hand, feeling his own heart begin to speed up.
Noticing his hand’s movement, Mrs. Liu moaned softly and murmured, “Xiaoyu, you think I really have heart disease? You’re a Divine Doctor; you have to help me!”
As soon as she finished speaking, Wu Xiaoyu quickly withdrew his hand, blushing, and said, “Stop feigning illness! You have nothing wrong with you!”
Mrs. Liu thought everything was going her way, only for Wu Xiaoyu to suddenly withdraw at the crucial moment. What did this mean?
If he wasn’t interested, why did he behave inappropriately? But if he was, why back off in the solitary night?
“Xiaoyu, feel again. Maybe you didn’t notice it just now?” Mrs. Liu hesitated, timidly extending her hand to touch Wu Xiaoyu, seeing him back away hurriedly.
They say cats can’t resist fish, and men in the village had always leered at her. But now that she offered herself, could he really resist?
Seeing Mrs. Liu genuinely trying to seduce him disgusted and angered Wu Xiaoyu. Was Niu Mansheng still scheming?
Mrs. Liu lay on the bed, panting and clutching her chest, pretending to be ill.
Knowing her act wouldn’t fool Wu Xiaoyu, given he was a Divine Doctor, Mrs. Liu continued her pretense, hoping to entice him, offering him an excuse to touch her.
Wu Xiaoyu, thinking she was acting on Niu Mansheng’s orders to trap him, wouldn’t fall for it.
“Mrs. Liu, leave now before I get angry. Otherwise… you and Niu Mansheng won’t escape!” Wu Xiaoyu turned and scolded.
Hearing him mention Niu Mansheng, Mrs. Liu was stunned for a moment before laughing, realizing he had associated her with Niu Mansheng again.
Though she had frequently been involved with Niu Mansheng and his son, she had distanced herself after failing to ensnare Wu Xiaoyu under Niu Masheng’s orders and being beaten by Niu Mansheng.
Moreover, it was clear Niu Fusheng had lost power in the village, so why remain subservient to a useless man?
Determined to turn over a new leaf, Mrs. Liu resented being seen as part of Niu Mansheng’s group.
Realizing her seduction had backfired and wanting to avoid Wu Xiaoyu’s revenge, Mrs. Liu adjusted her clothes seriously and said:
“Xiaoyu, let me explain. I have no ties with Niu Mansheng anymore, nor did I come here to frame you! I… I need your help with something!”
Observing her closely, Wu Xiaoyu saw she didn’t seem to be lying. Still suspicious, he decided to give her a chance to prove herself, saying, “Fine, what do you need?”
“I heard your factory’s production demands are high. Aren’t you planning to hire more people?” Mrs. Liu asked hesitantly.
Factory? Wu Xiaoyu suddenly understood! Mrs. Liu had come in the dark and seductively for a job at the Shiitake Mushroom Sauce Factory?
But even if there were vacancies, he couldn’t hire her!
Hiring her would provoke gossip among villagers and bring trouble from parents.
