Chapter 258: Accompanying Her to the Checkup

Emma Hart, lost in thought, locked eyes with the man before her. His gaze unflinching, she suddenly cast her eyes downward, a blush spreading across her cheeks like peach blossoms blooming in spring. Why was she blushing? She hadn’t done anything wrong!

With a defiant lift of her head, Emma placed her hands on Damien Sterling’s chest. "Excuse me, we need to get by," she asserted. Damien stepped aside with a noticeable force. Despite the ample space on either side, Emma chose to pass right by him, clearly still irked.

Following Mrs. Harris, Emma boarded the car, with Damien trailing behind. As she straightened in her seat, she turned to Damien with a cool, puzzled look. "Why are you here?" she demanded.

"To the hospital," he replied simply.

"Why are you going to the hospital?" Emma asked, her face a mask of bewilderment. In all her previous prenatal visits, Damien had never appeared. He owned the hospital, so there was no need for him to worry about queues or waiting; he always had personal service.

Yet Emma had never seen Damien at any of these appointments before. What had changed?

The hospital was a symbol of Damien Sterling’s presence. His black Maybach hadn’t even reached the hospital entrance before a nurse was already waiting. Although Emma had experienced such grand gestures before, none were as pronounced as now. If it weren’t for the setting, she might have expected a red carpet and fireworks.

As a shareholder, Damien was a patron of this private hospital. Everyone depended on him.

Upon arriving, a nurse hurriedly offered Emma a wheelchair. "Miss Emma, this is for you..."

Emma, perplexed, looked from the wheelchair to her own legs, intact and functional. "I’m fine, thank you," she declined, following the lead doctor inside. Occasionally, Emma appreciated the privileges Damien’s status brought, like now. The OB/GYN department was overwhelmed, but under Damien’s care, everything from registration to receiving test results was expedited through a dedicated, professional service.

Emma Hart followed a group into a private examination room. After undergoing several tests, she prepared to visit the restroom. The doctor, seeing her about to leave, quickly instructed the nurse, "Go with her."

However, Damien Sterling stepped in, waving the nurse off. The nurse, momentarily captivated by Damien’s handsome features and commanding presence, couldn’t help but stare. His tall stature and the kingly aura he exuded left a striking impression. To be the focus of such a man’s attention was a privilege indeed. With a sigh of envy, the nurse stepped aside.

Damien moved closer to Emma, who glanced at him with irritation. He had been standing quietly by her side, not uttering a word. What was he even doing here?

"Are you coming to the restroom with me?" Emma asked, frowning, her irritation evident.

"How do you know I don’t need to go?" Damien responded calmly, challenging her.

Emma ignored him and quickened her pace. Damien watched her hurried steps and called out, "Slow down!"

"I can’t hear you!" Emma shot back.

"You can’t hear? Maybe I should just carry you there!" Damien quipped, picking up his pace.

At that moment, Emma felt as if a beast was chasing her relentlessly. Fine, she conceded, stopping in her tracks. The thought of being carried to the restroom by Damien was too much to bear. Emma wouldn’t put it past him to actually do it.

At the restroom entrance, Emma Hart saw a heavily pregnant woman struggling to move and quickly stepped forward to assist her. The woman, smiling gratefully at Emma, said through a tight smile, "I’m full-term, it’s not easy to move around." She paused and glanced behind Emma at Damien Sterling, "Your husband even comes to the restroom with you? I’m so jealous."

It wasn’t just about accompanying to the restroom; having such a strikingly handsome and charming boyfriend was enough to make anyone envious.

"Ah?" Emma reacted instinctively to the word "husband," a term she had never associated with Damien before. "He’s not my..."

Before she could finish, Damien, overhearing part of the conversation, chimed in, prompting Emma to roll her eyes at him. How irritating!

Continuing the conversation with the woman, Emma asked, "What about your family? Didn’t they come with you?"

"My husband’s busy with work. He gives me money, but doesn’t have time for much else."

Busy with work, just giving money... That sounded somewhat familiar, yet Damien was here today, not at her request but on his own accord.

After leaving the restroom, Damien followed. Emma glanced back at him; his expression was nonchalant, seemingly indifferent to the scorn in Emma’s gaze.

But that was typical of him. Whether she cared or not didn’t seem to matter at all to him.

Reaching the door, Emma stopped and pointed to the warm yellow frame and the clear glass bearing the words. Turning to Damien, she said sternly, "Mr. President, you can read, right?"

Damien glanced at the sign nonchalantly and then nodded, completely unfazed.

Emma pointed to the sign and read aloud for Damien, "No Men Allowed!"

"And then?" Damien responded, his tone casual.

What? Such a shameless question, she thought. "Then, of course, means you shouldn’t shamelessly follow me inside!"

A nurse, hearing the conversation at the door, hurriedly opened it and respectfully stepped back, "Please come in?"

Emma entered, followed by Damien. The nurse made no move to stop him. Emma stopped, pointed at Damien, then at the sign on the wall, and looked incredulously at the nurse.

With a gentle smile, the nurse said, "Miss Emma, Mr. Sterling is your husband and a shareholder of this hospital, so..."

What kind of logic was that? By her reasoning, other women were in trouble too? Did being a shareholder grant him such privileges?

"Does that mean he can watch all the women being examined?" Emma asked, astounded.

The nurse was left speechless by Emma’s remark.

Pointing towards the restroom door, Emma told Damien, "You wait right outside the door. Don’t come in!"

Damien raised an eyebrow at her words. This woman was becoming more assertive by the day, a trait Damien found increasingly appealing.
