Chapter 56: Before the wedding.
Chapter 56: Before the wedding.
Joanne’s POV:
Ever since Arec called to confirmed if he misunderstood my text, I couldn’t get it out of my mind.
I remembered how I had, stared at my phone long after the call with Arec had ended, my fingers gripping it so tightly that my knuckles turned white.
The nerve of him. Arec and I had been friends for years, yet for the first time, he had doubted me. He questioned my judgment because of her.
I still could not believe it, he doubted me. Me, his longest, most loyal friend. All because of her. Ella.
Ever since that woman had come into his life, nothing had been the same. Arec had always trusted me without hesitation. If I told him something, he believed me. We never needed to explain ourselves to each other; we just understood. But now, with Ella around, he second-guessed me. He had even asked me to explain myself as if I were some outsider. As if I didn’t know what was best for him.
It was infuriating.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that Ella was behind this. That she had somehow gotten into his head and planted seeds of doubt. If it weren’t for her, Arec wouldn’t have questioned me. He would’ve believed me like he always had. But ever since Ella came along, things had changed between us, and I hated it
She’s ruining everything.
She was driving a wedge between us.
The Arec I knew wouldn’t have second-guessed me. He wouldn’t have doubted the friendship we built for years. But now, he was acting like I was the problem.
I don’t even understand what he saw in her. Sure, she was pretty in that unremarkable way, and she had a certain charm, but that wasn’t enough to make Arec forget the years we’d spent together.
It wasn’t enough to make him turn away from the person who had always stood by him. Ella had somehow managed to wrap him around her little finger, and it was becoming unbearable.
Ella was in my way, and I couldn’t stand it any longer. I had stood by Arec through everything, been the one constant in his life, and now she was walking around with him, thinking she’d won. Thinking she had Arec’s trust, his attention, his... affection.
But I wasn’t going to let her keep it.
No, she had to go.
I had to get her out of his life. There was no other option.
I stood up abruptly, pacing across my living room, my mind racing. If I let things continue like this, Ella would end up ruining everything. I had to act fast, especially with the wedding coming up. The thought of Arec marrying her made my stomach turn. She didn’t deserve him. She didn’t even know him like I did.
I grabbed my phone, scrolling through my contacts, and stopped when I found the number I was looking for. My thumb hovered over the call button for a moment, but I pressed it firmly, my resolve strengthening with each ring.
The phone rang once, twice, and then a voice answered. "Joanne. What can I do for you?"
"I need a favor," I said, my voice low but steady. "It’s urgent."
There was a brief pause. "I’m listening."
"I need someone... removed," I said, my words careful but clear. "Her name is Ella. She’s in the way, and I need her gone before next week."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and I could practically hear the gears turning in their head.
"Removed?" the voice asked, amusement tinging their tone. "That sounds serious. Are you sure about this?"
"I’ve never been more sure," I replied, my teeth clenched. "She’s ruining everything for me. I need her gone permanently."
"Are you sure you want to go that far?" they asked thoughtfully. "There are different ways to handle a situations other than making someone to disappear."
I wasn’t sure if they were teasing me or genuinely asking because they care. Either way, it’s adding to my anger. "Just make sure she’s gone," I snapped. "I don’t care how you do it. "
The person on the other end chuckled. "Consider it done. I’ll reach out to a few people and make the necessary arrangements. Just make sure you’re ready for whatever comes next."
"I’ll be ready," I said firmly, hanging up the phone.
But I wasn’t done.
I needed to cover my bases. One call wasn’t enough. If I was going to stop Ella from taking Arec away from me, I needed to be thorough, I need backup plans.
I scrolled through my contacts again, finding the number of someone who specialized in these types of situations. Someone discreet.
The phone rang twice before they answered. "Joanne," they said smoothly. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"I have a problem," I said, leaning against the wall, my mind racing. "There’s a woman in Arec’s life, her name is Ella. She needs to disappear."
There was a beat of silence on the other end. Then, "I see. Are we talking... permanent measures?"
"Yes," I hissed, my patience wearing thin. "I need her gone before the wedding. Whatever it takes."
"You’re not leaving much time," they said, but I could hear the confidence in their voice. "But for you, I can make it work."
"Good," I said, my voice cold. "I don’t care what it costs."
We discussed the details, and when the call ended, I felt a dark sense of satisfaction wash over me. Ella didn’t stand a chance. She might have Arec’s attention now, but not for long. Soon enough, she would be out of the picture, and everything would go back to the way it was supposed to be.
It was Arec and me. It had always been Arec and me.
I sat down on the couch, letting out a slow breath, my anger simmering beneath the surface. Ella had no idea what was coming her way. She thought she could step into Arec’s life and take what was mine, but she was wrong. I had known him for years. I had been the one by his side through everything. She was just a passing phase, someone who thought she could control him.
But she was about to learn that I was not someone to be underestimated.
Arec would thank me in the end. He would see that I was only protecting him. Ella was a complication, a distraction he didn’t need. Once she was gone, everything would go back to the way it should be. We would be close again, and he would finally understand that no one knew him better than I did.
The wedding was only days away, but it didn’t matter.
Because Ella wasn’t going to make it to the altar. Not if I had anything to say about it.
And I always did.
