Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 999 - 992: The Reluctance of Farewell
Chapter 999: Chapter 992: The Reluctance of Farewell
After the battlefield fell silent, Luo’er finally let out a sigh of relief before switching off the safety of his rifle and stepping out of the cover.
He wasn’t worried about the possibility of any remaining enemies lying in ambush; with Liseya’s assistance, he felt that aside from their own people, there was unlikely to be anyone alive at the scene.
"Wow, she’s so amazing, to have ended the battle so quickly. If only I could be as powerful as her," Fulajie’er followed him closely, expressing her amazement.
Hearing Fulajie’er’s sentiment, Luo’er turned his head to look at her and then shook his head before saying, "Don’t get carried away, you’re not like her. Don’t try to imitate her. You have your own purpose and your own style."
"Is that so? But I feel like if I could become like her, wouldn’t our Advance Team be invincible?" Fulajie’er tilted her little head and asked.
Fulajie’er’s words stirred something in Luo’er, causing him to fall into deep thought. Indeed, if they trained Fulajie’er into an assassin like Liseya, and with Feng as a combat mage, their Advance Team could almost be said to be invincible across the world.
However, Luo’er didn’t want Fulajie’er’s hands to be stained with blood. If possible, he would rather she stayed a support, providing essential services to the Advance Team, without having to personally take lives.
This was Luo’er’s obsession, an obsession akin to faith. Although Fulajie’er was just a god transformed from a person, and even if she could evolve to not rely on crystals, she wouldn’t become a true god. But in Luo’er’s eyes, Fulajie’er was enveloped in a halo, a halo that signified divinity.
He was diligently nurturing Fulajie’er in this direction, hoping to train her into a true god, one with divinity.
After a moment’s reflection, Luo’er shook his head again and then said sternly, "You mustn’t think in that direction, even if our Advance Team were to be completely wiped out, I wouldn’t let you take a life."
"Why?" Fulajie’er asked, puzzled.
"No reason, don’t ask anymore, and stop letting your thoughts wander!" Luo’er shook his head, no longer addressing her questions.
"Luo’er, are you angry?" Noticing the change in Luo’er’s tone, Fulajie’er cautiously asked.
"I’m not angry. Go and notify Little Ke to stay vigilant at all times. After we’ve dealt with things here, we’ll go and regroup with him," Luo’er shook his head, conveniently shifting the topic.
"Oh, you guys be careful then." Although aware there was more to Luo’er’s words, Fulajie’er didn’t dare to ask further. His words had given Fulajie’er a way out, and she vanished from the spot as if fleeing.
Watching Fulajie’er disappear, Luo’er sighed and then shook his head with a hint of shame. Just moments before, he had been momentarily tempted by Fulajie’er’s suggestion.
But in reality, even if Fulajie’er were to become like Liseya, her efficiency in killing the enemy would be far less than that of Liseya.
After all, Liseya had killed who knows how many people over the past few centuries to achieve such formidable combat power today. If it were merely about envying her killing efficiency, then Fulajie’er’s performance might prove to be a huge disappointment.
"Yue’er, notify everyone to come out and then clean up the battlefield to see if we can find anything valuable," Luo’er turned around and instructed Baiyue.
"Received, I’ll go right away." Baiyue nodded her head, then shouldered her sniper rifle and ran toward the tomb.
On the other hand, Cheng Ziang was looking at his long sword in his hand with a regretful gaze; ever since he used it to cut stone slabs for the first time, the blade had been on the verge of breaking.
However, a round of inspection revealed that its condition seemed quite good. The recent battle hadn’t worsened its state.
As mentioned before, due to hurried preparations, Cheng Ziang’s saber was forged from ordinary steel in combination with Kedal metal. Because Kedal metal has a destructive effect on all things, the steel of the blade also became brittle and fragile as a result.
Ilanadale had a way to solve this problem, hence they were equipped with a substantial number of weapons made of Kedal metal. However, this method had not been shared with headquarters, so Cheng Ziang’s long sword had not undergone such integration, which in turn led to the situation where the Kedal metal edge damaged the blade.
Liseya, who had killed everyone, had also become quiet, flying to Cheng Ziang’s head, gently stroking his head with the tips of her hair, and looking at him affectionately.
"Great ancestor, we are about to leave this place, and afterwards, you...sigh," Feng Ziang looked up at her, his expression one of wanting to speak but stopping himself. Upon seeing the bodies scattered on the ground, he was at a loss for words and could only let out a sigh.
He knew that as long as someone tried to enter the tomb, Liseya’s unending killings would never cease, as this was the only way to ensure that she and her love could remain undisturbed for all eternity.
As her descendant, Cheng Ziang naturally did not wish for others to rob his family’s ancestral tomb. Even he, who could freely take anything from the tomb, could not bear to remove a single blade of grass or leaf from it, let alone those tomb raiders with ulterior motives.
"I will come to see you again in the future, and I’ll bring father too," Cheng Ziang said to her sincerely.
Liseya’s pupil-less eyes still could not reveal her gaze, but Cheng Ziang always inexplicably felt her goodwill. After hearing what he said, Cheng Ziang noticed that Liseya’s tenderness intensified.
He reached out with an expression tinged with sadness. Liseya entwined his palm and fingertips with her silver-white hair, the action extraordinarily gentle, as if afraid her own power might hurt him—a stark contrast to her previous ferocity.
Liseya seemed to understand the meaning behind Cheng Ziang’s words, and he immediately felt her reluctance. She looked at Cheng Ziang mournfully, using her hair as if it were her hand, gently caressing his chest.
"You, you still want to touch my Soul Domain, you can, you can," Cheng Ziang figured out her intent and opened his arms, nodding his head.
Seeing Cheng Ziang’s gesture, Liseya flew backward a distance and then began to dissipate the magic from her body, her form visibly becoming transparent at a rate discernible to the naked eye.
Just as Cheng Ziang was almost unable to see her, Liseya suddenly rushed toward his chest and passed through his back, then without turning her head, she flew straight into the depths of the tomb.
In the instant he made contact with Liseya’s domain, Cheng Ziang felt an indescribable sense of grief, so oppressive that his heart felt inexplicably heavy and pained. He couldn’t help but let out a pained moan and knelt on the spot.
"Ziang, are you alright?" Luo’er was startled by Cheng Ziang’s appearance, a rush of concern surged forward, but he was immediately stopped by Cheng Ziang.
"I, I’m fine, don’t worry about me, don’t come over..." Cheng Ziang said, his head lowered, not daring to face Luo’er. Hearing the sobbing tone in his voice, Luo’er realized that he must have cried.
However, reassured that Cheng Ziang was physically unharmed, Luo’er was much relieved. He walked beside Cheng Ziang and then, with his back turned to him, coughed and asked, "Do, do you want to cry for a bit?"
"No need!" Cheng Ziang retorted stubbornly.
"Okay then," Luo’er nodded, still not turning around, and looked in the direction of the tomb’s entrance, "Liseya has returned to the inside of the tomb."
"I know," Cheng Ziang said, sniffing.
"Do you miss her?" Luo’er asked.
"I feel her loneliness, and I’m powerless to help..." Cheng Ziang replied, his voice once again becoming choked with sobs.
"Sigh, this is the path she chose for herself, we should respect her choice, shouldn’t we," Luo’er said with a sigh.
"I know, could I have a moment to collect myself?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Sure, I won’t disturb you then," Luo’er paused, then continued with an instruction, "After you’ve calmed down, check over these mages and see if there’s anything valuable on them."
"I know," Cheng Ziang nodded.
"Sorry for ordering you around at a time like this," Luo’er said with a hint of apology.
"What are you talking about, isn’t this what you, as the captain, should be doing," Cheng Ziang sniffed once again.
