Chapter 92: Chapter 88: Master and Servant
After a thorough examination, the academy found no suspicious individuals. Several senior Mages in charge of academy affairs gathered to discuss countermeasures. The deceased was a young magic instructor who had only recently entered the academy. It was said that he was related to the King. Now that he has met his demise within the academy, they owed King Gudelv an explanation.
Dean Shariya’s suggestion was to suppress the matter, secretly investigate, downplay the incident publicly to prevent any unrest among the students.
The other leaders agreed with Dean Shariya’s recommendation. The school’s orientation was underway, and they didn’t want to scare off the students because of this incident. Among them were many naturally gifted magic students whom they certainly did not want to frighten away.
After a vote, Shariya announced the end of the state of siege, and the orientation proceeded as scheduled.
Luo’er and the others breathed a sigh of relief. With no one paying attention, Luo’er pulled Cheng Ziang into a secluded corner to inquire about the incident.
"You’re defying your superiors!" joked Cheng Ziang.
After Liu’er’s questioning, Cheng Ziang explained what had occurred in the archive room. After listening to his account, Luo’er shook his head and said, "You were too reckless. It was just a reconnaissance; was it necessary to kill the guy?"
"He saw my face. If I hadn’t killed him, he would be a lingering threat!" Cheng Ziang shrugged.
Facing Cheng Ziang’s emotionless tone, Luo’er didn’t know what to say. He sighed deeply and stopped talking.
"You seem to pity him?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"I just don’t want us to kill people for no good reason!" Luo’er said.
"Heh," Cheng Ziang smirked and then said, "From the moment we entered the Otherworld until now, have we killed too few?"
"That’s different," Luo’er said, sighing, then continued, "We are a reconnaissance unit, not assassins. Unless the mission requires it, we have no reason to kill those who have nothing to do with us."
"To me, it’s all the same," Cheng Ziang looked at him, then went on, "Don’t forget, the UN Security Council is planning the third Otherworld war. We don’t know when the war will break out, but at least until it’s over, all... all Otherworlders are our enemies. I won’t have any mercy for them!"
Luo’er remained silent, not knowing what to say. After a long silence, he slowly said, "After the orientation is complete, I will stay in the academy with Moumou, and you will leave to manage internal and external intelligence. And, don’t cause any more trouble!"
Having said that, he lowered his head, continuing to act like a submissive slave, and slowly walked towards Tangmo.
Watching his submissive figure, Cheng Ziang felt strangely irked. He initially wanted to thank Luo’er for letting him carry a gun, but Luo’er’s attitude made him uncomfortable.
After the orientation, the three of them divided into groups as previously planned. Cheng Ziang, assigned the role of housekeeper, left the academy to manage the communication of intelligence from the inside and outside. Luo’er chose to stay in the academy, subtly integrating with Tangmo.
As the most eye-catching student at the academy’s orientation, Tangmo received passionate hospitality from Dean Shariya. He personally selected a spacious room for her dormitory and led her there.
As for Luo’er, he was instructed to follow a tutor in charge of the academy’s logistical affairs. Accompanied by a group of servants, he was assigned to a collective dormitory in the lower levels of the academy.
In the academy, they must work to earn their food and housing. Of course, they weren’t required to work all day as they were, after all, private slaves. Consequently, when their masters needed them, they must attend to their masters’ commands.
Luo’er was assigned to work in the kitchen, where he had to peel a large pot of potatoes. Potatoes, again. Luo’er could not remember how many times he had seen potatoes. Thinking about their previously boiled salt water potatoes, he could not help but feel nauseated.
Because it was orientation day, there were many people. Luo’er was busy peeling potatoes until the evening when all the potatoes were finally peeled. By then, his hands were wrinkled, and several knife wounds were on his hand.
After treating his wounds briefly, Luo’er made some dinner in the back kitchen and carried it to Tangmo’s dormitory. Along the way, despite receiving many cold glances, he managed to find Tangmo’s dormitory.
He gently knocked on the door, and a gloomy voice from inside said, "Come in!"
After a subconscious glance around, Luo’er pushed the door open. Seeing Luo’er come in, Tangmo, who was initially laying on the soft bed, immediately jumped to the floor and threw herself at him.
"What’s wrong?" Luo’er asked, raising his hands defensively to avoid spilling the food.
"I’m scared!" Tangmo said, looking at him pitifully.
"Didn’t I just arrive?" Luo’er said, laughing.
"I thought you left me alone!" Tangmo murmured with a pout.
Luo’er didn’t know what to say and merely responded with a helpless smile. "Moumou, remember to lock the door next time," he finally said.
"Hmm," Tangmo let go of him and, looking at the raw spot on his neck from the collar, said compassionately, "Luo’er, do you want me to remove it for you?"
"It’s okay," Luo’er adjusted his collar and said, "It doesn’t affect my daily life."
"My heart hurts!" Tangmo puckered her lips, saying with a furrowed brow.
"If we finish our missions sooner, I wouldn’t have to go through so much pain." Upon hearing Tangmo’s straightforward words, Luo’er felt his cheeks heating up.
"Luo’er, your hand..." As Tangmo spoke, her voice started to choke up, and it seemed like she was about to cry any second.
"Let’s not talk about that," Luo’er hastily withdrew his hand and changed the subject, "Are you hungry? I brought some food for you."
Tangmo shook her head, "I have already eaten. If you haven’t eaten yet, Luo’er, you can eat here."
"I feel like puking whenever I see potatoes now," Luo’er said with a bitter smile.
"Then, let me get you some delicious food from the restaurant." Tangmo said, ready to leave the room, but was pulled back by Luo’er.
"Alright, alright, alright. I can cope with what we have here," Luo’er said, holding her back.
"Really?" Tangmo asked, tilting her head.
"Yes!" Luo’er nodded his head.
The two sat facing each other at the table, the door of the room was already locked, so they didn’t have to worry about anyone walking in on their equal master-servant relationship. Tangmo rested her cheek on her hand, silently watching Luo’er eat.
Seeing his slightly worn-out moss-green eyes, Tangmo’s heart ached. She didn’t understand why the people of this world discriminated against half-elves so much. To her, half-elves were elegant and beautiful, Luo’er in front of her was proof.
To be honest, Tangmo didn’t understand why she liked Luo’er so much. At first, she was only attracted by his appearance, but she gradually found herself deeply entrapped by his gentleness.
"Luo’er, do you know? I’ve been thinking, it would be great if I could be a slave, and you could be the master!" said Tangmo, resting her chin on her hands, gazing at him.
"Why do you keep thinking about that?" Luo’er asked.resigningly.
"If I could have such a gentle master like Luo’er, I wouldn’t mind being a slave," Tangmo said with a blissful smile, her eyes closed.
"That is not like a usual master-servant relationship." Luo’er said, giving her a strange look.
"Why do the people of this world hate half-elves so much? Luo’er is so cute and gentle," said Tangmo, fuming with indignation, "I get so angry whenever I see people looking at you with contempt!"
"This discrimination has deep historical roots, not something that can be changed with a few words. I don’t care anymore, but please don’t let them upset you. If that happened, I would be very heartbroken too," said Luo’er, managing a bitter smile.
"Let’s complete the mission and get out of here as soon as possible," Tangmo puffed out her cheeks, but the mention of the mission made her snap back to reality, "What do I need to do tomorrow?"
"Nothing, just focus on attending your classes. We’ll take care of the reconnaissance work. You’re now a celebrity in the academy, everything you do is being watched, so remember not to act rashly," Luo’er seriously reminded her.
"Alright," Tangmo nodded, then furrowed her brow, "In that case, you’ll have to suffer again."
"It’s okay, I’m a man!" said Luo’er laughingly, as he reached out and ruffled her hair.
"Luo’er, stay for rest. We’ll sleep together," Tangmo suggested.
"Miss Audrey, do you understand what that means?" Luo’er sighed and laughed.
"The bed is so big, it’s not like we’re going to have a child!" Tangmo blinked innocently.
"If people find out, your reputation will be ruined. Gossip is all it would take for the rumors about the newly risen noblewoman and the lowly half-elf in an illicit relationship," Luo’er said, looking helpless.
"Luo’er is not lowly!" said Tangmo, frowning and emphasizing seriously.
"Oh my God." Luo’er helplessly covered his face, laughing bitterly and mumbling to himself.
He slowly walked to the door, then turned to Tangmo and said, "I’m leaving now, goodnight, Miss Audrey!"
"Goodnight!"
Tangmo spoke with a downcast tone. Luo’er saw her disappointed expression, but he also looked helpless. Just as a child should leave the parents’ embrace to sleep alone, Tangmo should also try not to depend on everyone and gradually grow independently.
