Chapter 879: Chapter 872: Snow Elf Axia
"Don’t shoot, don’t shoot, she’s not a bad person," Eve’s anxious voice mingled with the sound of gunfire. When Luo’er and the others burst out of the wooden cabin, Eve had already grabbed Hu Daoke’s gun barrel to prevent him from continuing to shoot.
"What are you joking about? If Yue’er hadn’t dodged in time just now, she would have been shot in the head!" Hu Daoke cursed angrily as he was being held back, pushing Eve forcefully as he tried to continue shooting.
Baiyue was lying in the snow nearby, awkwardly climbing back up with a face full of embarrassment. However, seeing that she hadn’t been hit, Luo’er was relieved.
"Cease fire, stay alert!" Luo’er walked out of the wooden cabin and stopped Hu Daoke, saying,
"Boss, that guy almost hit Yue’er just now!" Hu Daoke pointed toward a treehouse on a withered tree not far away, speaking anxiously.
"Let Eve negotiate, perhaps they’re not bad people," Luo’er said to him after glancing at Eve.
"Thank you." Eve climbed out of the snow, her face flushed with embarrassment, and then shouted loudly at the treehouse, "Aunt Axia, don’t shoot, it’s me, I’m Eve, don’t shoot!"
The effect of her call was immediate; as soon as her voice fell, a woman holding a gun appeared on the treehouse, staring at her with a wary face, and asked hesitantly, "Eve, weren’t you in the south?"
"I’ve come back now, Aunt Axia, don’t shoot, they’re my friends, not bad people," Eve said sincerely.
"I thought it was those troublemakers again." Axia sighed in relief, then slung the Mosinka-Nagant rifle over her shoulder.
Only then did everyone have the chance to closely observe the woman before them. She had very obvious characteristics of the Elf Race, with limbs slender and delicate, her skin so pale it was almost devoid of color.
Her clothes were a messy assembly of animal hides, looking quite crude, and she wore an ugly cap on her head. But even in such simple attire, it couldn’t conceal her delicate beauty.
The woman looked to be in her thirties, her features no longer held the vivacity of a girl, replaced instead with a mature charm. She had a pair of sky blue pupils, and it seemed as though there was a tattooed mark between her brows.
There was a stunning beauty mole at the corner of her mouth that, against the backdrop of her skin, was particularly striking, drawing the eye irresistibly.
Luo’er noticed that Axia had a head of impressive silver hair, the color of white silver that flashed in and out of sight beneath the ragged cap.
Because Baiyue had Slavic blood, she also had white hair. But her white was closer to ivory, giving off a warm tone overall. In contrast, Axia’s hair was truly silver-white, leaning towards a cool tone, surprising those who saw it for the first time.
"Who are you?" Axia asked, leaning on the railing and looking over the group with suspicion.
Her gaze settled on Luo’er, and after studying him carefully, she revealed a faint smile, "You are... a Wood Elf. How rare. Since when do Wood Elves dare to enter the Snow Domain, aren’t you afraid of those guys causing you troubles?"
"My name is Luo’er, I am the captain of this team. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Axia," Luo’er answered in a manner neither servile nor overbearing.
"Interesting, you droopy-eared types really are interesting," Axia clapped and laughed.
"Droopy-eared is what Snow Elves call Wood Elves, don’t mind it, there is no malice in this term," Eve whispered to Luo’er to explain.
"I thought you were enemies just now. So, none of you were harmed by the traps inside the room, were you?"
"You actively triggered the traps in the room, didn’t you?" Tangmo stepped forward and asked coldly.
At her words, Axia was taken aback for a moment, then smiled again, "Impressive. You actually felt such faint magical fluctuations. Are you from the Church of Light?"
There are two kinds of activation methods for a Magic Array, namely Active Array and passive. An Active Array is activated by actively casting a spell, which requires a Mage to chant magic as a trigger.
A passive array, on the other hand, does not require casting as a trigger to activate. Passive mainly manifests in physical aspects, including contact, collision, friction, and so on, which can activate a passive Magic Array.
I’ve mentioned before that Magic Arrays and Runes are essentially the same type of magic, differing only in name, size, and the circumstances in which they are used. Anything engraved on the ground or an object with a diameter or area exceeding one meter is referred to as a Magic Array, while anything smaller is called a Rune.
The Magic Array the Advance Team just encountered inside the house seemed like a passive one, but Tangmo could clearly feel someone activating it, so he boldly determined it was an Active Array.
"I’m just a student who knows a bit of magic," Tangmo answered with a calm face.
"If you can sense such faint magical fluctuations, your magical qualification must be very high. Someone like you should have been recruited and cultivated by the Church of Light. Unless, are you of mixed blood, which is why the Church dares not accept you?" Axia asked with a frown.
"That doesn’t matter here. You almost killed Yue’er just now. Apologize to her right away, do you hear me?" Hu Daoke said angrily, pointing at Axia.
"If I really wanted to kill her, do you think she could have dodged that bullet?" Axia sighed deeply and said with a calm face, "You don’t really think my shooting is that bad, do you? It’s you who almost wrecked my house."
"Didn’t she deserve it!" Hu Daoke said self-righteously.
"Enough, since everyone is fine, let’s talk less," Luo’er intervened to calm Hu Daoke down, saying, "We are asking for their help, so let’s just say that we fight to make friends."
After hearing Luo’er’s words, although Hu Daoke still felt a surge of anger, he forcefully suppressed it, not letting it show. He knew that they still needed this Snow Elf’s help for Luo’er’s illness, so he was willing to endure for now.
All of a sudden, Axia flipped over and leaped down from the treehouse, landing steadily in front of everyone.
She wore an exquisite headband on her forehead to connect and secure her hood. Once on the ground, Axia reached up to lift the headband and remove her hood, revealing a head of stunning silver-white hair that took everyone’s breath away with its unique beauty.
As mentioned before, members of the Elf Race age one year for every ten, so judging by Axia’s appearance, Luo’er estimated her age to be well over two hundred years.
What does that imply?
Princess Nina, Luo’er’s mother, was around one hundred seventy years old when she met Luo Chuan, which means she looked about seventeen. By the time Luo’er reached adulthood, Princess Nina’s apparent age was just over twenty.
Therefore, when comparing Nina with Axia, it’s clear Axia is definitely over two hundred years old. Of course, this isn’t an absolute certainty.
Because Princess Nina was already a mother at one hundred seventy, so though she appeared just over twenty when Luo’er was grown, her demeanor had matured.
So Luo’er was making a conservative estimate. If one were to be meticulous, Luo’er felt Axia’s age definitely exceeded three hundred years, which was a truly terrifying figure.
"What are you thinking about?" Axia’s penetrating gaze seemed to see right through Luo’er’s thoughts, startling him into quickly regaining his composure and shaking his head in denial.
"Aunt Axia, long time no see," Eve stepped forward, her face filled with excitement as she spoke.
"Ah," upon seeing Eve, Axia’s gaze immediately softened. She reached out and gently touched Eve’s cheek, sighing softly, "I can tell, you’ve suffered a lot in these past years. Why didn’t you stay with me in the mountains? Why insist on going south?"
"No, I don’t feel it was hard, I’ve... I’ve gotten used to it..." Eve was so moved she started to sob.
"So, you’ve come back this time, bringing friends with you, just to see me?" Axia’s eyes swept over the group before settling back on Eve.
"Aunt Axia, I, I, I have a favor to ask of you, if that’s okay?" Eve asked hesitantly, her head lowered.
"Ah, I figured..." Axia shook her head, letting out a soft sigh.
Then, she took the rifle from her shoulder, held it in her hand, and started walking towards the door. Turning back to everyone, she said, "It’s cold outside, come in and sit down!"
