Chapter 543: Chapter 536: Bombing Support
Right now on the ground, the battle was still raging. The giant was carrying out a furious assault on the mercenaries and the advance team shooting at it. However, due to the complex terrain, most of its attacks missed. Luo’er and the others were still attacking it, forcing it away from the research area.
The enraged giant spread its arms wide, bellowing in fury. It should be noted that Luo’er and his companions didn’t hear the giant’s vocals because its roar was not via sound waves, but through magical vibrations. Since it was created, the giant had only spoken once, allowing others to hear through the method of soul resonance.
Every time the giant roared, the atmospheric magical power would vibrate rapidly, like ripples on water. But after roaring, the giant did not launch a magical attack as imagined; it continued its clumsy close combat to attack the assailants.
This confirmed Luo’er’s speculation that the giant couldn’t control the output of its magic. In this situation, it could easily deplete all the magic that constitutes its body.
But Luo’er also understood that, once this beast fully matured and could freely absorb atmospheric magic, they would never be able to defeat it again. Although it was unable control its magic output, once it could gain the supplement of atmospheric magic, it wouldn’t have to limit the magic output anymore.
The giant swayed its fists in agitation, smashing buildings and trees nearby to pieces. A mercenary caught off guard was swept away by its fist, killed silently without even a scream.
"Everyone, retreat! Don’t get close to its attack range!" Seeing this, Luo’er immediately shouted out loud.
The giant seemed to have heard Luo’er’s voice and promptly pounced on him. Luo’er quickly rolled away, narrowly avoiding its fist, and then took advantage of the narrow alleyway to evade the giant’s pursuit.
The giant’s body was primarily made up of magic crystals, and the strength of these crystals wasn’t as durable as reinforced concrete. Accordingly, even though the giant was mighty, it was unable to destory these reinforced concrete building for the time being.
"Boss!" Seeing Luo’er being attacked, Hu Daoke couldn’t just stand by. He immediately picked up his machine gun and fired at the giant, hoping to divert its attention from Luo’er.
"Be careful! Do not get too close!" Seeing this, Cheng Ziang quickly yelled.
The giant was clearly agitated and so, without any hesitation, it attacked Hu Daoke who was making the most noise. Seeing this, Hu Daoke was slightly stunned, then he quickly picked up the light machine gun and began to run for his life.
Altough the giant’s movements were clumsy, it was quite fast. It quickly caught up to Hu Daoke. Now, Hu Daoke was in an open area, with no reliable cover in sight. The giant swung its fist and smashed it hard into the ground, hoping to smash Hu Daoke like an ant. But he agilely dodged to the side, avoiding this punch. The massive fist smashed into the dirt, even leaving a deep crater behind.
Hu Daoke, catching his breath with lingering fear, then laid on the ground and blasted shots crazily towards the giant’s head. The giant growled with anger, and then swung its big hand. It directly flung his gun far away and also broke his right arm in the process.
Hu Daoke’s right arm was limply hanging in an unnatural angle. Holding his arm, he screamed in excruciating pain. The giant was getting ready to launch its attack when a rocket hit its shoulder. The entire shoulder was blasted by the armor-piercing round, immediately scattering the crystals.
Following that, the second and the third missile hit in succession, directly blowing the giant’s head apart, revealing the light-emitting magic crystal inside the head.
The giant was instantly enraged and lunged towards the mercenaries who attacked it. Cheng Ziang seized the opportunity to run to Hu Daoke’s side, grabbing his collar and preferring to hide in a corner.
At this time, Luo’er also rushed to Hu Daoke’s side, gripped him and looked anxiously at Cheng Ziang, asking, "How is he, he’s alright, isn’t he?"
"He’s fine, just a fractured bone, let’s fix it and then move him to the rear." Cheng Ziang checked and then heaved a sigh of relief.
"What do you mean it’s just a fracture, you..." Hu Daoke grinded his teeth and presented an expression of agony, grimacing in pain.
"Alright, quiet down a bit. I’ll bandage you up, you’ll be just fine!" Cheng Ziang said as he injected a sedative into him and then searched for a branch to fix his broken arm.
"Damn it, we are no match for that giant." Luo’er glared at the misbehaving giant in the distance, gritting his teeth.
"Where’s our backup?" Cheng Ziang asked while busily tending to the wounded.
"We need that guy to leave the research area for the artillery to cover us, lest the research area gets bombarded and collapses." Luo’er replied.
"I’ll draw his attention. I’m faster, you just direct the artillery fire." Cheng Ziang suggested.
"I’ll go, you try to get Little Ke out of here." Luo’er waved his hand.
"But you..." Cheng Ziang clearly doubted Luo’er’s abilities.
"No worries, I think I figured out a way." Luo’er pointed to the maintenance room they had just passed.
"Be careful. I’ll come to help you in a sec!" Cheng Ziang said as he finished bandaging Hu Daoke’s arm, then hoisted him up to evacuate. Whilst retreating, he complained, "How could you be so heavy! Told you to diet."
"Cut the crap, if you find me heavy, just leave me! I can still fight!" Hu Daoke retorted disgruntledly.
"Whatever, just roll off to the airboat!" Cheng Ziang shot back unforgivingly.
Luo’er, gun in hand, charged towards the giant who was still attacking the mercenaries. Shielded by buildings, it only managed to injure a few, bellowing in frustration.
Seeing an RPG launcher lying nearby with a bag of shells, Luo’er loaded it and fired straight at the giant’s back.
The high explosive shell tore a huge hole in the giant’s back, spewing magic crystal debris all over the place. Before the giant could react, Luo’er swiftly loaded a second shell and fired again.
The second shell, another high explosive, went right through the hole in its back, blasting through its magical entity and exploding out from its chest. Now, truly enraged, it turned around, let out an ear-splitting roar that trembled the magical power around, and lunged at Luo’er.
Luo’er quickly discarded the launcher, turned tail, and ran. He chose a spot cleverly— no more than twenty meters away from the maintenance room. At the giant’s speed, he could make it into the room before it reached him.
"Taste the power of high tech!" Luo’er bit his lip, running and firing a signal flare that landed at the doorway of the maintenance room.
Upon seeing the green signal flare, the hovering transport plane waiting, issued a warning to the airboat. Then, the airboat sent a formation signal to Luo’er. Soon after the flare was launched, Luo’er felt his magic messenger start to vibrate on his wrist.
At this time, the giant was still furiously chasing after him. When Luo’er reached the doorway of the maintenance room, three white signal flares lighting up the night sky rained down, surrounding the entire maintenance room. Luo’er knew— it was a bombing range warning.
"Goodbye!" Luo’er gasped, flipping the giant the bird as he darted inside.
There was a stairwell inside leading to an underground passage, but Luo’er didn’t have time to take the stairs. He jumped straight down the stairwell just as the giant reached the entrance.
The sound of the giant striking the roof echoed above. The thin concrete roof cracked, revealing a large bump fracture. However, the giant didn’t get much time to roar in fury, as right after the first punch, a dense shower of aerial missiles fell from the sky, the first one smashing straight onto its head.
