Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 324 - 317: Rescuing Shariya

Chapter 324: Chapter 317: Rescuing Shariya

Shariya dual-wielded his magic staff, stretching his arms left and right. One hand initiated the shield, while the other launched magical attacks in the open slots when the shield was active. Facing several young magicians, he didn’t seem on the losing end.

"This Shariya is quite impressive, able to resist the attacks of so many people." Seeing Shariya’s calm demeanor, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but exclaim.

"Dean Shariya is the person with the highest magical attainment in Holy Heart City, even the Cardinals of Holy Heart City are very respectful to him." Feliz explained on the side.

"This guy was always very powerful, but it seems that his attainment has further improved now," Yalunte said as he watched Shariya, stroking his chin.

"Shariya seems to have appeared in Yue’er’s father’s diary. If I remember correctly, he demonstrated magic to the Otherworld investigation team from Earth," Tangmo said after pondering for a moment.

"How did Shariya get here?" Cheng Ziang asked with a frown, looking at Feliz.

"The outing for practice this time was mainly led by Dean Shariya, and many archmages from the Church Court participated. We were very happy at the time, thinking we would have the chance to learn advanced magic from them. But for some reason, they all left the team one by one, and later, my classmates and I were chased and killed by those people from the Church", Feliz answered truthfully.

"Where was your destination for practice?" asked Cheng Ziang.

"We started from Holy Heart City and headed east all the way!" Feliz answered.

"Going east all the way," Cheng Ziang squinted his eyes, a map of Aels Continent appearing in his mind. Heading east all the way from Holy Heart City, one could reach the Roen River. Crossing the Roen River leads to the mountainous area of Masya.

If you go straight east and reach the Roen River, it would actually be much closer to Lipei, about two days north, and if you go south by boat, you could reach Yazhi City within two days at the slowest.

"It seems that this practice plan is more like a decoy," Yalunte was the first to guess the mystery, so he said with a frown, "The Church Court must have used the practice as a disguise and secretly sent archmages to Yazhi City to ambush the Earth Army."

"But why is Dean Shariya alone here, and why did he fight with these mages?" asked Feliz with a puzzled face.

"The casting methods of these mages are clearly amateurish, they should be mages from the common folk, not from the academy," Yalunte looked at the young mages and made his judgment.

"Can you tell?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking surprised. Because even Feliz and Tangmo couldn’t tell these mages’ casting methods, he wondered how on earth could this swordsman tell.

"Of course I can tell," Yalunte let out a light sigh and answered faintly, "Princess Lin was a student at the Magic Academy. How could I not know?"

His memories of Princess Lin were deeply imprinted into his genes, so that even after so many years, he still knew so many details about her.

Just as they were conversing, suddenly, a young mage pulled out a revolver from his pocket and pulled the trigger at Shariya.

"Bang!"

The huge gunshot abruptly interrupted the conversation. Shariya had always kept his magic defense shield open to resist the magic attacks from the other side, but they surprisingly resorted to a gunshot attack. The unprepared Shariya didn’t have time to change the protective properties of the magic shield, and was shot in the arm, the bullet piercing through his left forearm instantly.

The severe pain caused Shariya to drop one of his staffs frantically, losing his ability to attack. He could only stick it out with a single staff projecting a shield. What was even worse was, though the bullet had not broken the bone, it had affected the pulse. Casting large-scale magic spells could likely lead to severe erosion of magic power.

In an instant, the balance of the battle shifted. Facing the attack of several mages, Shariya was no longer so calm, even becoming rather disheveled.

"Dean Shariya!" Feliz cried out in shock, almost leaping out, but was timely stopped and silenced by Cheng Ziang.

"Are you crazy, going there is a suicide mission," Cheng Ziang scolded.

"Apprentice, watch her. Tangmo, use your magic to distract them. I will ambush them from behind!" Yalunte pointed at Cheng Ziang, then at Tangmo, and made a calm judgment.

"I understand!" Tangmo nodded, then got up and began to prepare for battle.

She darted through the forest. When she was ten meters behind the magicians, she stopped. Raising her magic wand, she invoked a ball of fire which materialized before her and then shot quickly towards the magicians.

The magicians, having achieved a successful attack, had stopped casting shields to ward off Shariya’s attacks. As a result, they were taken aback by this sudden assault.

Nevertheless, they were experienced magicians who had honed their skills in the real world, and the attacked magician responded swiftly. In his rush, he conjured the fastest shield he could—a level one magic defense shield.

"Puff!" The fireball hit his magic defense shield and then exploded. He couldn’t withstand Tangmo’s level two magic attack. The shield was shattered, and the leftover force of the fireball hit his chest, sending him flying backwards. Without his magic conductor robe decorated with runes to lessen a part of the impact, his heart would have been instantly cooked.

Despite her first attack not hitting the target, Tangmo showed no hesitation and immediately launched a second spell, making the magic power in front of the enemy magician gather and explode.

"Boom boom boom!!"

The air in front of several magicians exploded without warning; they managed to open their defense shields in time but were still staggered by the blast. Fortunately, the explosion didn’t produce shrapnel. As they were magicians with a low magic resistance, such a magical shock inflicted relatively minor damage to their bodies.

The enemy managed to withstand this attack, and Tangmo continued with her third spell, the Ice Spear Attack. This was a common combination magic, using ice magic to summon ice spears and wind magic to shoot them out.

When several ice spears came flying, the already battered magicians didn’t dare to resist and chose an embarrassing tactic—cowering with their heads down. By lying down, they could avoid the attack of the ice spears.

Having unleashed three spells in less than ten seconds, barrage after barrage which forced the magicians to retreat, Tangmo ensured they didn’t dare to take her magic attacks lightly. They stopped trying to use their defense shields to block her offensive magic.

The ice spears flew rapidly over the magicians’ heads, then crashed heavily into the trees behind them. Some ice spears pierced the trunks while others exploded upon hitting the trees, shattering into piles of ice shards.

For a swordsman like Yalunte, ten seconds was more than enough to position himself for a flank attack. Therefore, after casting the three spells, Tangmo retreated back into the underbrush to change her position.

The magicians, having regained their bearings, stopped attacking Shariya as he was injured and essentially unable to cast large-scale magic attacks. Their focus turned to Tangmo, from whose last known position they began to launch a barrage of magic attacks.

At this point, they did not notice a pair of eagle-like eyes staring at them from behind.

Suddenly, a sharp dagger gleaming with cold light shot out from behind the magicians. It plunged straight into the back of the head of a magician who was far away from his companions, severing his spine instantly. His eyes bulged out as he fell face-first onto the ground and his body grew still.

The magicians looked on in terror as their comrade inexplicably fell to the ground. Behind them, rustling sounds could be heard, and a large shadow stepped over the fallen leaves and moved towards them, a sharp, long sword pointing at one of the magicians.

"Swish!" Yalunte stopped his motion, leaving a deep footprint on the leaf-strewn ground. Under the gaze of the startled magician, he rammed his long sword straight into the magician’s throat. His attack was swift and precise, cutting through the magician’s throat and the adjacent major artery in an instant.

The magician’s eyes widened, clutching at his bleeding neck wound as he gradually fell to the ground.

Having dealt with one magician, Yalunte didn’t hesitate. He took a big step forward, turning his sword towards another magician, piercing the magician’s heart through a gap in the rib cage.

He then whipped out a revolver from behind, aiming at the heads of the remaining two dazed magicians, and pulled the trigger.

"Bang!" A great explosion of fire lit up a magician’s face. The bullet penetrated his forehead and shot out from the back of his head, piercing into the head of the magician behind him.

One shot, two magicians down. Yalunte stepped back, forcibly pulling out the sword embedded in the magician’s heart. Blood sprayed out from the wound in an instant. The last three magicians fell almost simultaneously.

After disposing of all the magicians, Yalunte casually engaged the safety on the revolver and tucked it into his waistband. Then, he wiped his long sword clean on the clothes of a dead magician before sheathing it gracefully.

He then strode forward, picked up the dropped firearm of the gun-wielding magician, examining it carefully. It was a very old-fashioned and ancient revolver, which seemed like rubbish in his eyes.

With a helpless shake of his head, Yalunte unloaded the bullets from the revolver and tossed it to one side. He then stood up and greeted the stunned Shariya with a smile. "Long time no see, old fellow!"
