Chapter 216: Chapter 209: The Birth of Luo’er
"Then, your parents got married right in the canyon?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help but interrupt and ask.
"Yeah." Luo’er scratched his head, nodded and said. Whenever he mentioned his parents’ love story, he still seemed somewhat embarrassed.
"Your dad was really impressive," Hu Daoke remarked, shaking his head, "He captured your mother’s heart so quickly."
"My mom is very beautiful, the kind of beauty that makes you fall in love at first sight," Luo’er hesitated, "My dad once said, if their first meeting wasn’t on the battlefield, he would have fallen in love with her at first sight."
"That’s nothing. I fell for Luo’er as soon as I saw him!" Tangmo declared, cuddling his arm affectionately.
"I have known Luo’er since we were kids," Baiyue also stated softly, an unusual claim to her rights.
"You guys..." Luo’er appeared somewhat embarrassed with their words.
"It’s always you good-looking people," Hu Daoke rested his chin in his hand and turned to Cheng Ziang, pointing at his nose, "Look at you, also a handsome guy but not as loved as Luo’er. Are you a bachelor because of not reflecting on that?"
Cheng Ziang swatted away his hand, frowning coldly, "No one liked Luo’er before, he was even more antisocial than me."
"Um, I was always busy with my studies, so I ignored the most basic social interactions. During that time, my head was filled with thoughts of getting good grades and then being assigned to the Otherworld," Luo’er explained.
"Hey, stop interrupting, I forgot where I was!" Tangmo complained.
"I think you were talking about the wedding!" Hu Daoke reminded her.
"Luo’er, continue!" Tangmo said eagerly.
"Alright." Luo’er nodded and once again recalled the memories of the past.
It had been almost six months since Luo Chuan and the others had their mishap. He remembered that they had started fighting in May, and it was about to be winter now. They needed to promptly reinforce their dwellings. Even though he didn’t know what winter here would be like, he felt it was better to prepare early to avoid the cold.
Luo Chuan created some pots using the clay he found near their house. To Nina, who was accustomed to living in the wilderness, this was impressive.
Ever since their wedding, Nina always carried a serene smile on her face. It seemed like she really liked this husband of hers from another world. Every time she saw him, a smile would appear in her heart.
"If we plan to live here long-term, it’s best to build a brick house, but this place won’t be dampened by rain, so there’s no rush. As long as we plaster the walls with mud to ensure it’s not drafty, it should be fine."
Luo Chuan stood there, scratching his chin musingly. Suddenly, he turned his head subconsciously and found Nina staring at him, her eyes filled with the tenderness unique to a wife, creating a stir in his heart.
"Do you think I’m very capable?" Luo Chuan asked with a laugh.
"Yes," Nina nodded and answered honestly, "I always feel like you know more than I do, even though I have lived for over 170 years, you are smarter."
"You can praise me all you want, but please stop mentioning your age. It feels weird," Luo Chuan coughed and gestured with his hand.
"But you said it doesn’t bother you, didn’t you?" Nina asked, tilting her head.
"I did say that, but if I told my family that I married a seventeen-year-old elf girl, I estimate my father would kill me," Luo Chuan said.
"Is it that serious, why is that?" Nina’s face changed upon hearing his words.
"By the law of my country, girls can only get married at twenty years old. A seventeen-year-old isn’t even an adult," Luo Chuan scratched his head and explained.
"Then just tell them I’m already 170 years old," Nina suggested.
"That would be even weirder," Luo’er said helplessly.
Just as Nina was about to say something else, she inexplicably felt a wave of nausea and couldn’t help but retch while clutching her chest. Seeing this, Luo Chuan quickly ran over to hold her, asking worriedly, "What’s wrong, are you not feeling well?"
Leaning into his arms, Nina whispered, "This has been happening for a while now, this unexplained nausea, it’s been over ten days, and also..."
As she spoke, she couldn’t help but glance at Luo Chuan. Her face turned red and she bit her lip, looking down and hesitating to continue.
"And? You have to make it clear," Luo Chuan urged anxiously.
"It seems, inside my belly, is nurturing a new life," Nina said softly, her head lowered, using a very euphemistic phrase.
"In your belly, a new life..." After hearing her words, Luo Chuan was taken aback, staring at her in shock, "You mean, you’re pregnant?"
Nina looked down and whispered, "My mother told me that if I have these symptoms, then..."
"You’re pregnant?" Luo Chuan clutched her shoulders, interrupting her statement with a dazed look on his face.
"Um!" Nina nodded.
"You said you’re pregnant?" Luo Chuan asked again, stunned.
"Um!" Nina nodded in response.
"You, said you, are pregnant!" Luo Chuan suddenly snapped back to reality, hugged her tight, stuttering as he asked.
"Um!" Nina gripped his clothes, and nodded patiently.
"You, you..." Luo Chuan abruptly pushed her away, his face with a complex expression, both shock and a hint of joy. He looked around, at a loss for words.
"I, I, need to calm down a bit." Luo Chuan let go of her and stood up, turned around, cradling his head. He felt an inexplicable surge of energy ravaging his body, a feeling more exciting than an adrenaline shot.
A sense of joy erupted from his heart, replacing his previously stoic expression. His pupils began to dilate, and his lips involuntarily curled up. He squatted there holding his head, muttering the words he just said, all while emitting soft silly chuckles.
"Are you okay?" Nina felt his behavior was off and asked worriedly.
"No, I’m not, just a little overexcited." Luo Chuan suddenly rose, his face beaming, his hands gesticulated wildly as if unsure where to put them.
"Honey, just stay here, don’t go anywhere. I’ll hunt a sheep for you, nourish you well, okay?" Luo Chuan held Nina’s shoulders, pressing her onto the carpet, then picked up his rifle and hummed a tune as he walked out. Nina watched his back, noticing he was walking with an overly triumphant strut.
Finally, his triumphant shout echoed through the valley, "I’m going to be a dad!"
"So this is how it feels to be a father!" Hu Daoke remarked.
"Luo’er, how would you react if I were pregnant?" Tangmo’s comment almost choked everyone in the room.
Luo’er blushed, "Isn’t it too early to talk about this?"
"Sister Moumou, let’s not discuss such indecent topics here!" Hu Daoke waved his hand.
Suddenly, they were hit by a strong smell of medicine as Cheng Ziang took out a patch of tape from a medical bag and slapped it over Hu Daoke’s mouth. Hu Daoke could not speak a word but merely mumbled angrily at Cheng Ziang.
"You always interrupt the story, just shut up!" Cheng Ziang held his cheek, speaking with a grim face.
"Yeah, Little Ke, don’t take it off, let Luo’er finish the story first." Tangmo chimed in.
"Sister Moumou!" Hu Daoke let out a muffled whimper.
"Continue, continue!" Tangmo urged.
After ten months of pregnancy, during the eighth month of their second year in exile, with a baby’s cry, the world’s first child of an Earthling and Otherworlder was born in the valley.
"First, tie the umbilical cord with rope, then cut it... where is the knife, the knife... uh, then wrap it up... do we need to wash it? Sigh, the water is too hot, we will clean it later!"
Inside the crude house, Luo Chuan was clumsily attending to the tiny life in his hands. He was sweating profusely, his body smeared with blood. After wrapping the baby in sheepskin, he held the baby in his arm, seeing its wrinkled little face, Luo Chuan felt his hands trembling.
"This is my child, this is our child, Nina and me. My God, he’s so small, so adorable. His ears are just like Nina’s, his hair, his hair is just like his father’s." Luo Chuan’s lips were moving, a paternal smile gleaming on his face. But as he laughed, tears began to drop.
"Luo Chuan..." Nina’s faint voice came from behind. This jolted Luo Chuan back to reality, bringing his attention to the mother of his child.
"Nina, Nina, this is our child." Luo Chuan excitedly kneeled at Nina’s side, placing the baby near her head.
"Child!" Nina, so exhausted she could barely lift her hand, looked at the baby wrapped in sheepskin, a satisfied smile spread across her frail face.
"Are you okay, does it still hurt?" Luo Chuan sat by her side, asking.
"I’m fine, I just need some rest." Nina shook her head, murmuring with half-closed eyes.
"Nina, we had a boy." Luo Chuan told her excitedly.
"A, a boy?" Nina tried to raise her hand to touch her child, but she was too weak. Seeing this, Luo Chuan hurriedly moved the baby to her sight so she could see her child.
"A boy, so cute." Nina stretched her hand to touch the newborn in the swaddle, speaking with a tired smile, "His hair is just like yours."
"His ears are also like yours, maybe his eyes too." Luo Chuan replied, smiling.
"This is, our child." As Nina’s fingers met the tender face of her child, tears welled up in her eyes.
