Chapter 1359: Chapter 1352: Street Brawl

Hu Daoke didn’t seem to take in what he had said, his attention drawn away by other noises. He pointed in the direction where a crowd was gathering and said, "Wow, look over there, it seems to be getting rowdy again."

"Why do you say ’again’?" Cheng Ziang asked as he walked up beside Hu Daoke and looked in the direction of the noise.

"These things happen often; you don’t usually walk around on the streets, so you might not be too aware of it," Hu Daoke explained.

"Happen often, what things?" Cheng Ziang asked, slightly bewildered.

"Ah, you see, it’s those wolf-headed people, tiger-headed people, and the like. They always like to intimidate and extort, grabbing other people’s stuff in the city and not paying for it," Hu Daoke said, propping his foot on a step.

"These things really happen?" Cheng Ziang was astonished once again.

"Yup, it’s happened before," Hu Daoke shrugged and said, "these guys take pride in having liberated Ziye Ning, thinking themselves heroes of Ziye Ning, which leads them to stir up trouble everywhere, causing widespread resentment in the city."

"Doesn’t anyone deal with this?" Cheng Ziang asked with a slight frown.

"They say it’s unmanageable," Hu Daoke said, spreading his hands, "these guys are bullies but cowards at heart, they dare not crack down on their own kind and specifically target those Kyushu people who have surrendered, preying on them because they are strangers in these lands."

"Wait, they target Kyushu people?" Realizing something, Cheng Ziang suddenly widened his eyes and hastily asked.

"Exactly, you see, that’s what they’re doing over there to Kyushu people," Hu Daoke said as if it were obvious.

"I think I understand why it’s unmanageable now, so that’s how it is," Cheng Ziang squinted and nodded in understanding.

"Why?" Seeing him so sure of himself, Hu Daoke widened his eyes, unable to suppress his curiosity, and asked.

"Since you’re chatting with me, I’ll share my thoughts with you," Cheng Ziang said, patting his chest confidently.

"Oh please, as if I begged you for it," Hu Daoke rolled his eyes, though he didn’t refuse.

"In your impression, what do you think of the Beast Head Tribe?" Cheng Ziang asked seriously after clearing his throat a bit.

"Fierce in battle!" Hu Daoke shrugged and responded.

"What else?" Cheng Ziang continued to inquire.

"Well, they dare to face off against generals, which is pretty impressive," Hu Daoke pondered a bit before replying.

"Have you noticed that there are fewer and fewer generals in the Dongsheng military now? Does it seem like you seldom see them on the battlefield anymore?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"It seems to be the case," Hu Daoke scratched his head, "it appears that in the recent battles, it’s always been the line infantry at the front line, completely routing the Dongsheng forces."

"Exactly," Cheng Ziang nodded in satisfaction and continued, "ever since generals in the Dongsheng military became less frequent on the battlefield, the Beast Head Tribe’s appearances have also become rarer. And there’s something I’m not sure you’ve noticed."

"Which is?" Hu Daoke paused and asked.

"Have you felt that the battle willingness of the Beast Head Tribe soldiers is actually quite low?" Cheng Ziang posed the question.

"It seems like it," Hu Daoke nodded.

"Right, because the recent and upcoming battles are all about fighting for the West Outer Heaven territory, which the Beast Head Tribe comes from the North West Outer Heaven. They inherently believe that it’s not worth their blood to fight for the South West Outer Heaven. It’s a feeling akin to you fighting a war in a foreign country. The Beast Head Tribe never considered the Beast-Ear Race as their own and viewed them as foreigners, just like themselves," Cheng Ziang explained.

"I see, so that’s how it is," Hu Daoke nodded, and then couldn’t help asking, "So this is what you wanted to tell me?"

"Of course not," Cheng Ziang shook his head and said, "the Beast-Ear Race has now formed an army led by Kyushu people, ensuring their manpower. This means they no longer rely on the Beast Head Tribe so heavily..."

"Oh, you mean the Beast-Ear Race wants to drive away the Beast Head Tribe and rely on their tens of thousands of Kyushu soldiers to go it alone!" Hu Daoke interrupted him, seemingly having an epiphany.

"Keep your voice down. It wouldn’t be good if we were overheard," Cheng Ziang warned.

"I’m speaking Chinese, you old illiterate," said Hu Daoke grumpily.

"Anyway," pausing for a moment, Cheng Ziang continued, "if I’m not mistaken, the Beast-Ear Race must be tacitly allowing this situation to worsen the relationship between the Beast Head Tribe and the people of Kyushu."

"Why would the Beast-Ear Race want to make the relationship worse between these Beast Head Tribe members and the Human Race?" Hu Daoke asked, puzzled.

"If I’m not mistaken," Cheng Ziang analyzed, "by doing this, they likely want to create some disturbances through the people of Kyushu and then have a legitimate reason to push the Beast Head Tribe out."

"I don’t understand," Hu Daoke shrugged as he spoke.

"Think about it," Cheng Ziang said, "with so many cities in the South West Outer Heaven being liberated, the Beast Head Tribe can’t be said to lack merit, at the very least they have put in a hard effort, right? It’s not appropriate to just drive them away, is it?"

"Not appropriate," Hu Daoke nodded in agreement.

"Even if you really wanted to split, at the very least, you’d have to give the Beast Head Tribe a city, right? That wouldn’t be too much to ask?" Cheng Ziang pressed on with his question.

"If I were the Beast-Ear Race, I definitely wouldn’t agree, why should I?" Hu Daoke said indignantly, arms crossed.

"Right, you’re not the Beast-Ear Race, but that’s exactly how the Beast-Ear Race thinks," Cheng Ziang said.

After a pause, he continued, "If the Beast-Ear Race drove the Beast Head Tribe out directly, it would undoubtedly sour the relationship between the two, making it difficult for the Beast-Ear Race to find allies in the future should they fall on hard times. Moreover, if the Dongsheng military heard of the relationship deteriorating and decided to attack of their own volition, the Beast-Ear Race would easily find themselves caught between two fronts, so they need to be crafty and make the Beast Head Tribe leave on their own accord, especially since they have been clamoring that they don’t want to fight for the South West Outer Heaven."

"So..." Hu Daoke hesitantly asked.

"Turning a passive situation into an active one is a fundamental lesson in politics," Cheng Ziang said, "If the Beast-Ear Race actively drives out the Beast Head Tribe, they’ll definitely face criticism on moral grounds. But if the Beast Head Tribe acts unethically first, then when the Beast-Ear Race takes action, it will seem justified."

"Oh, I get it now," said Hu Daoke, as if a lightbulb had gone off, "So the Beast-Ear Race is letting the relationship with the people of Kyushu deteriorate. That way, once something happens, they can justifiably drive out the Beast Head Tribe, and morally, they’ll have the upper hand since it was the Beast Head Tribe that caused the issue."

"Mhm, not bad, you’ve basically grasped the basics of politics," Cheng Ziang said with a satisfied smile.

"Pah, who cares about that," Hu Daoke spat at him in disdain.

As they spoke, the dispute on the streets below the city walls seemed to be escalating, drawing an even larger crowd. Soon, they heard a cry of alarm, and the crowd began to boil with excitement.

"Wow, wow, wow, they’re fighting! Look, they’re fighting!" Hu Daoke pointed down excitedly.

"You..." Cheng Ziang gave him a look, speechless.

Looking to where the noise was coming from, they saw the street bustling more than ever as about a dozen soldiers of the Beast Head Tribe began to beat several Kyushu individuals, and the surrounding Kyushu spectators, unafraid, joined the fray. Dozens of people were fighting fiercely on the streets, creating a scene of utter chaos with people and horses scattered everywhere.

"The conflict has reached a threshold; it looks like something big is coming next," Cheng Ziang said with a smile.

"Should we step in?" Hu Daoke asked, eyes wide.

"Step in, my ass, look at you, taking pleasure in others’ misfortune," Cheng Ziang rolled his eyes.

"Ah, the boss is here," before long, Hu Daoke suddenly called out excitedly.

Luo’er had hurried to the scene upon hearing the news and, facing the chaotic situation, he unhesitatingly drew his pistol and fired three shots into the sky.

Although the sound of a Yuanzi gun wasn’t as loud as a gunpowder weapon, it was still very loud. After three shots, the spectators dispersed like birds and beasts, and the dozens involved in the brawl, seeing that the situation was turning sour, also hurried to disengage and make a run for it.

"Not one of you run, stay right where you are!" Luo’er commanded, pointing his gun at them, fuming.

"The boss is so domineering, so heroic!" Hu Daoke exclaimed excitedly, unable to help but give a thumbs up.

"Sure, as if they can hear your brown-nosing," Cheng Ziang shrugged.

"I’m being sincere, not like you," Hu Daoke gave him a contemptuous look, speaking irritably.
