Chapter 1287: Chapter 1280: Assigning Tasks

Returning to their place, Luo’er went over the meeting with everyone, and hearing that Abisien was going to launch a counteroffensive, everyone seemed very excited.

"So, our next task is to act as a communication bridge between Abisien and the Dongsheng commander, to jointly resolve the conflict in West Outer Heaven?" Cheng Ziang pondered, arms crossed and head bowed.

"That’s what I’m thinking. Right now, we take any hope we can get. As long as the Dongsheng Empire withdraws its troops, we need to try even the most unlikely plans. As everyone has seen, even with us added, it will be very difficult for Abisien to drive out the Dongsheng army. Abisien is not what it used to be; the war has done far more damage to them than we imagined," Luo’er nodded and said.

"So we have to go find that Dongsheng commander again?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"I’m troubling you again," Luo’er nodded and said.

"You’re the Captain, you shouldn’t be saying things like this..." Cheng Ziang scratched his head.

"It will still be the three of you... um, let me think, Little Ke should also go with you. One more person means more fire power, and I don’t know if that guy is dead yet," Luo’er said hesitantly.

"Mission assured!" Hu Daoke exaggeratedly saluted.

"What if that guy named Xuan is dead, what do we do?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Well, then we’ll have to look for another commander willing to work with us against the Dongsheng General. I believe that the conflicts among the military leaders within the Dongsheng army are not isolated cases. Even without that guy, there should be other commanders unsatisfied with these generals," Luo’er mused.

"Then what will you be doing?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"I’ve thought about it," Luo’er said, "I plan to organize political mobilization work, to incite the people of the Demon Clan and unite them against the Dongsheng Empire."

"That job of yours..." Cheng Ziang started, but then hesitated.

"What’s the matter?" Luo’er asked.

At that moment, they heard Zhuyan Yu suddenly chuckle, and their gazes turned towards her.

Facing everyone’s eyes, she shook her head with a smile, "In a way, Luo’er is both the guide and the Captain of the Advance Team. He’s the most suitable person for the job, why do you all look so surprised?"

"Commissar Comrade, keep up the good work!" Cheng Ziang patted Luo’er on the shoulder, laughing.

"Alright, stop teasing me," Luo’er waved his hand, showing a bitter smile.

After a pause, he put away his smile and then looked at Baiyue and asked, "Yue’er, how many of the High-peak people are still surviving in Lingyuan City?"

"A little over thirty, including pilots, marine troopers, and scientists," Baiyue thought for a moment and replied.

"That’s good," Luo’er nodded in understanding.

"What are you planning to do?" Baiyue asked curiously.

"Teacher Zhu," Luo’er didn’t answer her directly but turned to Zhuyan Yu, "I hope you can lead the remaining Dwarf scientists to work on improving the military equipment for the Demon Clan’s army and to teach them tactics and strategies, can you do that?"

"For things like this, shouldn’t it be an order? After all, you’re the Captain now, and I’ve already given you all the authority," Zhuyan Yu said indifferently.

"I wouldn’t dare. Even if all the command is in my hands, you are still my teacher after all," Luo’er said respectfully.

"Alright, alright, leave this task to me," Zhuyan Yu waved her hand and said, then glanced at him with a reproachful look, "Sigh, you’re really too serious for your own good."

"Okay, Ziang, you guys leave tomorrow, take the Transport Plane there. I’ll give you three days. Choose your own rendezvous location, and three days later the Transport Plane will come to take you back," Luo’er told Cheng Ziang.

"Leave it to us. Just sit at home and be a good guide. Stop always rushing ahead into battle," Cheng Ziang patted his shoulder.

"Why does nobody want me on the battlefield..." Luo’er smiled wryly and shook his head.

"Moumou, keep an eye on your Luo’er, don’t let him go around flirting," Cheng Ziang turned to Tangmo and said.

"You don’t need to tell me. I’ll definitely keep a close watch on him," Tangmo pouted.

"Moumou, you also have a job, you are responsible for teaching the Demon Clan to learn magic," Luo’er turned his head and instructed her.

"What do you mean, you don’t want me to follow?" Tangmo asked dissatisfied.

"I will assist you as well," Luo’er said helplessly.

"That’s more like it." As soon as she heard these words, Tangmo immediately turned anger into joy, giggling foolishly.

"In addition, our contact with the Dongsheng Commander also gained Abisien’s recognition, so when necessary, you can apply for intelligence support from the Scouts," Luo’er suddenly thought of something and then said to Cheng Ziang.

"Hmm, a good choice," Cheng Ziang nodded and said.

"Alright, everyone rest early, we’ll split up and take action tomorrow," Luo’er continued.

Deep into the night, when everyone had entered their dreamland, Luo’er alone couldn’t fall asleep. He left his room, climbed the stairs to the rooftop, sat down, and gazed at the distant lights and the starry sky above.

He recalled the events of the recent days—it felt as though a dozen years had passed, yet when he counted carefully, it had only been a few months since they had left Lipei.

A few months, for their adventurous lives, was merely the time it took to travel from Yazhi City to the Ancient States; however, during this adventure, it felt like an entire lifetime had passed.

"Luo’er..." While he was lost in his myriad thoughts, unsure how to calm his mind, he suddenly heard a voice behind him like that of a little cat.

He turned his head sharply and saw Baiyue poking her head out, her eyes wide as she timidly called out to him.

"Aren’t you going to sleep?" Luo’er asked.

"I kept thinking that you surely couldn’t sleep, so I couldn’t sleep either," Baiyue replied honestly.

"What kind of logic is that..." Luo’er couldn’t help but smile wryly.

Baiyue didn’t respond, but instead cautiously climbed onto the rooftop and slowly walked toward Luo’er.

"Be careful," Luo’er said, trying to stretch out a hand to help her.

"May I sit next to you?" Baiyue slowly walked to Luo’er’s side and then asked.

"Of course, you can, why do you ask?" Luo’er shrugged naturally and asked, somewhat puzzled.

Baiyue slowly sat down and then leaned her head against Luo’er’s shoulder. Noticing her action, Luo’er chuckled and shook his head—it seems that sitting by his side was meant quite literally in this way.

"What are you worried about?" Baiyue asked quietly.

"How do you know I’m worried?" Luo’er asked in surprise.

"Hmph..." Baiyue didn’t speak but hummed twice, indicating her noncommittal attitude.

"Sigh..." Luo’er heaved a long sigh and then said, shaking his head, "This time we’re truly in dire straits, unlike before, we have almost lost everything. Apart from our remaining weapons and the knowledge we possess, we have almost no advantage to speak of."

"So, do you think we might not be able to go back?" Baiyue asked.

"Yes, if we can’t go back..." Luo’er said, biting his lip, not daring to continue.

"Are you worried about those in the West Continent, or are you concerned about us who are deep in the East Continent?" Baiyue asked.

"Why do you ask?" Luo’er didn’t understand her meaning.

"If you’re concerned about those in the West Continent, then I am concerned too, I care as well. I haven’t even met my own father, and now I might never be able to return, which is torture for me as well," Baiyue spoke calmly.

"Don’t speak so definitively, be more optimistic..." Luo’er tried to comfort her.

But Baiyue ignored his comfort, continuing to speak on her own terms, "If you’re concerned about us, who are trapped in the East Continent, then I think it’s not so hopeless. Up until now, not a single one of us has been lost; everyone is faring well. Although we don’t know what the future holds, it surely won’t be too terrible, don’t you think?"

"Both, I guess..." Luo’er looked down, his expression now somber, "My grandfather is already very old, his remaining days are few, yet I am unable to fulfill my filial duties. For me, it’s a regret no matter what..."
