Chapter 1057: Chapter 1050: Dispute Arises Again

Following Tu Xiu, a group of people descended from the welcoming platform and entered the house, which was constructed from wooden planks and was quite spacious. It was hard to imagine that the Wolfman Clan of the Western Continent, while being exiled, still possessed such skillful craftsmanship and tools.

This also confirmed Luo’er’s speculation once again, that the Wolfman Clan was not a barbaric and backward civilization. On the contrary, their level of technology was quite high, almost indistinguishable from that of the Rabbit-ear Tribe living on the outside.

In fact, Luo’er also wanted to know how many Sub-beast Race groups had come to the Western Continent with them initially. He thought that since the Overturning Beast was so huge, it shouldn’t have just transported a few hundred or a thousand people to the Western Continent.

Upon reaching the long table inside the house, Tu Xiu gestured for everyone to sit, then ordered his people to serve them drinks. The house was filled with a strange scent of fur mixed with incense—it wasn’t exactly stinky, but it was peculiar enough to make one feel odd.

A Wolfman brought over several cups of drinks to the table and then respectfully departed. Watching his retreating figure, Luo’er noticed an interesting detail.

Some of the Wolfman Clan still had bushy tails that drooped behind them, swaying back and forth as they moved. However, not everyone had this feature, for example, the Wolfman Luo’er had captured earlier had no tail.

Luo’er guessed that these might be their tools for balance, similar to the tails of kangaroos. With tails, the Wolfmen wouldn’t need to swing their arms when walking like humans do. They could simply rely on the movement of their tails to correct any imbalance that occurred while walking.

But to be honest, this feature seemed rather useless because they could achieve balance by swinging their arms, eliminating the need for a tail. This was probably why only some Wolfmen had tails—they might have realized that tails were not that useful and could be rather cumbersome.

"Lord Luo’er, please." Tu Xiu picked up a wooden cup and invited him with a nod.

"Thank you," Luo’er responded with a slight smile before picking up his own wooden cup.

The cup contained a dark yellow liquid with a refreshing scent of herbs; taking a whiff was uplifting. He glanced at Tu Xiu, who had just sipped a bit, then looked back at him expectantly.

Seeing this, Luo’er gently kicked Cheng Ziang under the table and gave a subtle smile, then took a drink from his cup.

Initially puzzled by Luo’er’s actions, Cheng Ziang quickly understood after seeing what he did, so he picked up his wooden cup and then set it down again without drinking from it.

Luo’er’s intentions were clear: he was going through the motions, warning the others not to act rashly. If the drink was poisoned, this would also prevent everyone from being taken out in one fell swoop.

Surprisingly, the drink was impressively pleasant—smooth on the throat, and although slightly warm, it created a cooling sensation in the stomach, extinguishing the residual heat from the organs.

Within less than ten seconds of drinking, Luo’er felt his organs return to a normal temperature. Any restlessness he had felt due to the heat immediately subsided as he truly ’cooled down’ in a literal sense.

"Excellent!" Astonished, Luo’er exhaled a breath of cool air from his depths and set the wooden cup down heavily on the table, letting out spontaneous praise.

"Hehe," although Tu Xiu did not understand Luo’er’s words, he guessed the sentiment from his reaction and explained with a smile, "This is a local specialty. After drinking it, it can relieve the inner heat of the body."

Perhaps because he had been intimidated earlier, Tu Xiu’s demeanor was now much more amiable compared to before.

Taran, sitting beside Luo’er, translated Tu Xiu’s words for him, and then, also curious, took a sip herself. Her eyes widened, and she uttered surprised exclamations.

"Honored guests, do not worry. These drinks are not poisoned, nor do they contain any toxic substances. You may drink them with confidence," Tu Xiu reassured, noticing that the others had not touched their cups.

"We’ll drink later," Cheng Ziang waved his hand and said with a smile.

"Then, esteemed elders, please do as you wish," Tu Xiu nodded slightly and then fell silent.

Having recovered from the shock of the piercingly cold sensation, Luo’er took a deep breath, and looked at Tu Xiu with an admiring expression, "I had no idea that the elder possessed such an extraordinary beverage. It truly is a rare delight."

"You flatter me, Lord Luo’er. Our clan might not have many other skills, but we do have some knowledge of medicine. We’ve lived in these deep mountains for a long time, often surrounded by miasmatic vapors, so we gather and consume some herbs, which has kept our people rarely ill," said Tu Xiu with a smile, clearly pleased by Luo’er’s praise.

"That is quite a remarkable skill..." Luo’er nodded thoughtfully, clearly intrigued.

If things were as Tu Xiu said, and the Wolfman Clan had substantial knowledge of medical practices from the Otherworld, they could prove useful as allies. Even though Earth had been in contact with the Otherworld for almost forty years, there were still many diseases in the Otherworld that Earth’s medicine could not cure.

If they could secure the assistance of the Wolfman Clan, then Earth’s medical research into the Otherworld’s diseases could ascend to a new level.

"Elder Tu Xiu, do all of your clansmen possess such skill in medicine?" Luo’er asked, his gaze heavy with implication.

"Oh, it is merely ancestral craft. The New Land is not like the Old Land; there are many herbs here that are unknown to us, so we are still exploring," Tu Xiu replied with a nod.

"Such skills, if taken out into the world to heal and save, would not only earn renown but could also amass a fortune, couldn’t they?" asked Luo’er with a smile.

"We once swore an oath to never leave Lord Leiyun in this life, so please, let’s not speak of venturing out again," Tu Xiu said, waving his hand to dismiss Luo’er’s suggestion.

"Your Lord Leiyun has turned to dust, do you still plan to keep guarding on?" asked Luo’er.

"Of course. Lord Leiyun sacrificed his life to lead us out; how could we possibly not repay such a debt of gratitude, unlike some..." As Tu Xiu spoke, he glanced subconsciously at Taran, who stood beside Luo’er.

Hearing Tu Xiu’s words, Taran puffed up his cheeks unhappily. After translating for Luo’er, he sulked, lowering his head in silence, his furry long ears drooping as well.

Luo’er reached out and gently stroked Taran’s long ears, then spoke righteously to Tu Xiu, "I must disagree with Elder Tu Xiu’s statement. The chief of the Rabbit-eared Tribe told me that when Lord Leiyun was at death’s door, he had asked all of you to leave him. Everyone was simply following his orders. It was your choice to keep guarding him, but why blame others for allegedly abandoning Lord Leiyun?"

"Those were just excuses made by Lord Leiyun, not wishing us to witness his suffering. Clearly, we could have guarded him, but after arriving in the New Land, everyone left, no one cared about the life or death of Lord Leiyun," said Tu Xiu with indignation.

"Your clansmen are so skilled in medicine, yet they still couldn’t save your Lord Leiyun, could they?" Luo’er asked calmly.

Upon hearing Taran’s translation, Tu Xiu stood up from his chair with a whoosh and glared at Luo’er, showing his sharp fangs and grinding his teeth as he asked, "What do you mean by that, Lord Luo’er? Are you accusing our people?"

"I’m just telling it like it is," Luo’er replied, unfazed by Tu Xiu’s threat, maintaining his composure, "Since Lord Leiyun’s time was up, instead of staying to guard him to their own peril, it might have been better to flee for safety. I believe this is what your Lord Leiyun would have wanted too."

Bang!

Hearing Taran’s translation, Tu Xiu grew even angrier, slamming his hand on the table, causing the cups on top to topple over and spill the drinks across the table.

Taran, startled by his action, shivered and clung to Luo’er, but even in this moment, Luo’er remained unscared.

Luo’er regarded Tu Xiu calmly, then let go of Taran’s arm, stood up, and leaned forward on the table, his pose challenging as he looked up at Tu Xiu and said, "The truth is, you know well that with or without you, Lord Leiyun could not have survived. You blame others out of a sense of disequilibrium in your hearts, don’t you? You keep saying they betrayed Lord Leiyun, but isn’t it just to show that you were more loyal than them, right?"
