Before anyone could react, a fair and slender hand shed key reached out and firmly snatched the dagger from her.

Kelsie stared at her with a misty look in his eyes, "He had no right to kill him. So what makes you think you have the right to kill him?"

At that moment, Zoe completely forgot she was a timid girl who couldn’t even raise her voice when speaking and yelled at Kelsie, "He killed Kennedy, that’s more than enough reason to take his life too!"

Then she stepped forward to snatch back the dagger, but Kelsie casually grabbed her outstretched hand, placed it under her armpit and twisted it, earning a painful shriek from Zoe.

Then she paused and glanced at her sternly, "Are you back to your senses now or do I need to break your hand?"

Zara inhaled and exhaled heavily for several seconds before she nodded, "I’m back to my senses."

Kelsie then released her grip and threw a glance the gang leader’s way.

"You shouldn’t become a murderer because of a scumbag like him." Then she paused to look at Kingsley Lennox, "Besides, why become a murderer when someone else can do it for you?"

Right in front of everyone, Kingsley glanced at some gangsters who got up almost immediately and dragged away the screaming gang leader.

As soon as he was gone from the alley, Kingsley lowered his eyes again in apology.

"My boys made a mistake that won’t repeat itself ever again."

"I know." Jett was no longer interested with him.

Instead, his eyes were glistening a little as he gazed at Kelsie.

This woman... she only checked the first-year’s pulse and breathing and was able to deduce he was on the verge of death.

She was even able to deduce when he’d die.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she risked her life to stop this Zoe Derruci.

The thought that something bad could’ve happened tugged hard at his heartstring that his legs began strutting towards her.

"I told you not to do anything. Why then did you put yourself between somsone with a dagger? One wrong move and she could’ve severed your wrist!"

Kelsie frowned slightly, getting offended by his high-pitched tone, "You’re talking down to me. I’m offended."

The man snorted pettily, "Good. I feel the same way."

Silence.

Kingsley Lennox almost thought he was dreaming.

What is this? Why was this ruthless man suddenly acting petty?

Zoe Derruci temporarily forgot she was mourning and asked in confusion, "Team leader, is this your husband?"

"Maybe I should’ve let you throw this dagger so they’d beat you up." Kelsie didn’t know when she lashed out at her.

The poor girl instantly clamped her mouth shut.

Jett slipped his hands into his pocket and snickered in contempt, "What a short-tempered woman with a foul mouth! If I marry her, she’d be the end of me!"

"Your wife? How dare you harbor the thought that i can your wife?"

"I’m not harboring any thoughts, I’m just saying my life will end if someone like you becomes my wife!"

"There you go again, desiring me. I’m way above your league. Know your place!" Kelsie then huffed and began strutting away.

The man, however, refused to let her have the last say and trailed after her almost immediately.

"Way above my league? Woman, who do you think you’re talking to? I, Jett Adler, I’m a league of my own!"

"Whatever you are, you’re beneath me. Remain there for your own sake!"

"Hey, Kelsie Sutton!"

Zoe stared at them, a hint of amusement tugging the corners of her lips before she recalled she was supposed to return back with them.

She grabbed her laptop bag and ran after them, but paused and glanced at the first-year’s body for a split-second before she continued on her way.

As soon as they disappeared from sight, Kingsley’s right-hand man crawled to his side.

"Big boss, was this necessary? We have more boys with us. All you had to do was give the order and we would’ve taken him down."

"If you hadn’t yielded to him, that blonde brat wouldn’t be the only one lying there..."

He abruptly stopped talking when Kingsley gazed at him frostily.

"This is word of advice from me, if you ever encounter that man in a fight, go down on your knees and beg for your life."

"What did you say?" His right-hand man was taken aback.

Kingsley looked away from him, getting up on his feet.

"They’d be a hole in the middle of your head before you know it and you’d die without knowing how you died."

Upon hearing him, a chilling fear instantly ran down the spines of everyone nearby.

But the man in question was fuming in the Kelsie’s car.

Kelsie dropped a basket of the herbs in the boot of the car before turning around to get into the driver’s seat.

When she saw the man fastening his seatbelt, she paused and raised a questioning brow, "What are you doing?"

The man had his eyes on the road as he retorted, "Because I was busy helping you, the man I came to find ended up dying. Don’t you think you owe me?"

Kelsie nodded in agreement and no longer complained.

As she got into the car and started the engine, she asked, "How do you want me to repay you?"

He took out his phone and tossed it at her.

"Dial in your number. I’ll call you once I think of something."

Kelsie inputted it with one hand and steered with the other.

For the next two hours as they drove back to Silicone Valley, no one said anything.

Zoe asked to be dropped-off in the middle of the city before Kelsie drove them to the apartment building.

Daniel Adler, who had been waiting outside for them, swiftly video-called his niece when he saw Kelsie alight from the car.

He hadn’t expected them to come back together, so he just craned his neck to see if Jett’s car was following, but sighed in disappointment.

He wasn’t the only one disappointed.

Upstairs, Keira sighed heavily when she didn’t see Jett’s car and called out to her brother, "Zade, mommy is back. But she’s not with daddy."

On the sofa, Jesse’s eyes lit up happily, but he pretended to be uninterested and merely looked away.

However, his eyes dimmed the very next second when Keira shrieked in disbelief, "D-daddy is holding mommy by the waist!"
